Google is raising the price of YouTube TV to $50, showing that it’s hard to compete with cable

Google’s YouTube announced Wednesday that it’s increasing the price of YouTube TV to $49.99 per month for subscribers, and $54.99 per month for subscribers who pay through Apple iTunes.

It affects new members beginning on Wednesday and will apply to existing members on the first bill after May 13. YouTube TV originally launched at a cost of $35 per month, and increased the price to $40 per month in March 2018.

The price bump is yet another sign that streaming TV providers are having a difficult time competing with traditional cable networks as they scale and add channels, even though streaming services were originally billed as a solution to expensive cable bills.

Just last month, AT&T increased the price of its DirecTV Now service by $10 per month. Dish’s Sling TV has consistently raised the price of its product too.

Google explained a bit why it felt the need to increase its prices. It has expanded its service to cover all of the U.S. and added more than 10 new channels since launch. It’s also adding Discovery, HGTV, Food Network, TLC, Investigation Discovery, Animal Planet, Travel Channel, MotorTrend and EPIX.

Still, one of the initial appeals of streaming TV services was that people could cut the cable cord and only pay for internet service. But, as prices creep up, these services are becoming nearly as costly as cable.

I tried it for one month and it's not worth what they are charging now! Waste of money.

They added new channels but wish they would've made it an optional add-on. I've been grandfathered in at the $35 rate so now u want me to pay $15 more for channels I don't care about :smh:

What is youtube tv? I fuck with eternal tv..every channel in the world is 10.00 a month..brah

yup. eternal tv, netflix and amazon prime and all the free apps streaming service i got running, plus all the spectrum app services on their just logging in with my pops account.

How the hell did yall get in?
Every time I try to buy eternal they aren't accepting new signups

When football season starts, I might have to hit one of y'all up for a EternalTV referral
They terminated my account last year, when I missed a monthly payment

It is worth it if you split service with someone. I split it with my sister and my cousin ( and we don't live in the same house). Can't beat the price with unlimited dvr and no problems.

if that shit includes all sports games and ppv.. that wouldnt be a bad deal..

if it doesnt google/youtube is out their racist hiring silicon fuckin minds..

Anybody use hulu live? I've had YouTube tv at $35, but I don't want it at 50.

Do live sports buffer or fuck up otherwise on Hulu live? I'll move over to that and the Disney+ bundle that's coming if the straps are as reliable ad YouTube's

there was a 2 month hulu promo, it was really cool, I got hulu basic now, good enough for me and its $6. the ads are never more than like 60 seconds and sometimes I've watched an entire show with no break.

I got a roku ultra, and reduced the cable package to almost nothing, which is CRAZY cause it is actually a BETTER deal than JUST getting internet. I actually got a deal to INCREASE my interent service cause they thought I was about to leave entirely.

bgol networks, HULU and Prime plus a hook up with Netflix.

Its been working out. If the wife and kids were more tech savvy like that I would cut it entirely

but to keep the peace the easy reliable interface of the roku and firestick and smart TV is good.

Did you watch any live sports? That's where the other services I've used (sling and ps Vue) fall short... Live sports constantly buffer and disconnect. YouTube tv never buffers as long as I'm watching via a wired device.

Not a bad setup. Maybe going this route. Just looking at a few options and will report back if everything turns out the way it looks like it's going to.
