Voting has done things for black folks in the past. Civil Roghts act. Affirmative action another (I got my business loans through an Affirmative Action program from the SBA). So to pretend it doesn't help is disingenuous. The same program was wiped out by Republicans when they got back into power.

I think we just need to get better at politics and groom our own candidates, get then in office, uphold them as they fight for us & our issues, and really get some legislature passed for US EXCLUSIVELY.

Even if we have to do it quietly and in incremental phases.

I don't think you ever supported Bernie but I was actually for his running at first. I used to tag his account on Twitter suggesting it. Every time he spoke on tv about economics or health care I was very impressed and thought this guy gets it.

Then he did run, and I saw him on the national stage where he had to address more than just economics and health care and I saw he doesn't understand black or race issue. He thinks fixing economics will fix everything. He came out against identity politics. He made excuses for his racist supporters.

It doesn't matter if all the jobs are paying a gazillion bucks an hour if no one is hiring black folks. Environmental racism affects us and come to find out he's participated in furthering it. Wealth doesn't protect black folks from racial profiling or police brutality. I didn't hold the crime bill against him, but folks mad at Hillary for what she said, wasn't mad he signed it.

Once he was on stage and his flaws visible I decided to support Hillary.

Currently he is saying the right things, but I don't think he believes them. He is just surrounded by people who know what his message needs to be for black votes. If he got a bill he might sign it, but I don't think reparations are something he'd fight for.

If he wins the nomination, he has my vote, but he's not my first choice. Just like 2016 any dem is better than Trump and most Republicans. I don't know why people don't understand that dems might not address every liberals cause, but they don't do anything to roll back progress. The GOP in power actively seeks to disenfranchise black folks, limit power and roll back rights. We never get ahead on progressive policies because once dems fix what the GOP fucked up, dems get restless, get upset changes aren't being made fast enough, the base doesnt vote to teach someone a lesson or because they don't understand the importance of midterms, and the GOP wins again. It's a stupid cycle we have to break if we want ongoing and lasting progress. If we want to see changes we need dem leadership for more than 2 terms in the WH and more than a year or two in Congress.
