Nah, just wanted to see what his answer would be.

Sugar - Insulin

As I get older, all my weight is congregating in my stomach. I'm not really even gaining weight, but the stomach was getting bigger. I'm not even waiting for new year goals. I'm starting tomorrow.

thats because you dont move around as much as you used to...

I made small changes like getting off one stop early on train or bus so I can walk..

always takin the stairs when its an option... and drinkin crazy water....

plus you have to do workouts that not only focus on your abs... but also your lower and upper back..

I think overall I lost almost 100lbs.

I got down to about 240 from 308 initially, then my mom passed and I put 30-35lbs back on while going thru depression and coping with the loss...

I finally got out of that funk when I saw a picture of myself on New Year's Day and decided I didn't want to look like that anymore. I re-dedicated myself to my diet/exercise plan and got to 208 at my lowest.

At 6'3 I felt 208 was a little too thin, so I cut back on my intermittent fasting and limited it to 5 days on, 2 days off. Now I am consistently between 213-217 lbs...
Were you diabetic?

i dropped 30 pounds. I'm currently 6'6 285lbs. I eat what I want, i have been off and on fasting for nearly a year. My energy levels are sky high and I don't look 48. I am damn near dunking again. Intermittent fasting is easy, half the work is done while you sleep. When I first started I used myfitnesspal.com. Good luck.

This right here.
6'3, 215 and I feel GREAT at 38 years old.

Most of the work is done while you sleep so that's why I don't understand how people think this is too much or difficult

They already say you shouldn't eat past 8 or late at night (this is bullshit, but whatever). If you go to sleep at 10p and get 8 hours that's 10 hours fasted right there. Add another 2 in the morning because you wake up, get ready for work or school, THEN eat... There's 12 hours fasted without really trying.

Now if you can add two hours on both sides, or 4 on one (the easiest, skip breakfast and eat lunch) you got a 16:8 intermittent fasting window right there.

first off...my condolences...

glad to hear you're back on your path though...

one thing i noticed...is how dieticians and fitness experts say you can't spot reduce...and the belly fat and love handles is the last fat deposits you lose...as you're losing weight...

they are talkin' about the subcutaneous fat...the fat just underneath skin....that's in between the muscle and skin...

what i appear to have lost first...was the visceral fat...the fat in between all the organs located in our abdominal area...that was makin' me look..feel and appear bloated....like i had a beer belly...

THAT fat disappeared seemingly overnight....

i don't really like to cook...so i been eatin' those...ATKINS Microwaveable Frozen Dinners....and TV Dinners kinda similar to that...

the OTHER thing i noticed...is that once i cut out sugar...my taste buds re-adjusted...so NOW anytime i eat a piece of fruit...it's REALLY sweet!!

Still not clear how the Insulin level will drop while waiting to eat longer after I wake and go to work or something ...all my life been hearing you have to eat Breakfast its the most important meal of the day now that's no longer true it seems. Actually I used to eat a big breakfast at 9am and then eat my last meal, not as big at 6:30 no snacks because I was busy just enough to kill the hunger pain. Is that similar to this ?

That's how I do it fam. I had a huge sweettooth so it was hard the first couple of weeks. Now I don't crave it and I was never a big alcohol drinker.

Went from 270lbs to 215lbs using intermittent fasting, and I've never felt better. Weight has been off for almost a year now. I had to stop because I was losing too much weight, had got down to 208lbs...

Now this is the brutha that needs to b giving advice that people will listen to.

Chime in bruh.....I’m listening. Can we get some more details. Fasting hours and meal types...

Carry on............

Intermittent fasting is good for losing weight..I do it all week if I got a function for the weekend, only thing a bout intermittent fasting is...you can not gain muscle at all...small meals all day, you can gain muscle...brah

:hmm:

as someone that has cut out sugar. gtfohwtbs.

try cutting out sugar and refined carbs and see how much better you feel.

Sure if you are overweight and not active, if you are fit person you wont notice a difference.

Some great info being shared. I made this thread to focus in on how insulin affects weight loss. We typically associate it with Diabetes but it apparently plays a big part in our metabolism and as the first video shows, belly fat.

  • All aspects of metabolism are greatly enhanced in the absence of insulin.
  • Insulin is the switch that determines whether you burn fat or make fat.

Fasting is not going to be you're savor it's a quick way to jump start your weight loss but for the long term it's not going to work and all you're doing is slowing down your metabolism instead of speeding it up then you find yourself having to do it again for a longer period of time than before .....then you have to do that and some more to trick your mind and body to get where you want to be.

It's a never ending battle and there's many ways approach it but as you age you can't keep doing it the same way,the results won't be the same.

*Most couldn't do a 1200 calorie a day intake,so you mean to tell me you're going to consume less than that and be ok?right...you're not a body builder or some professional fitness person so why put yourself through that?*

used to do intermittent fasting one day a week. The biggest effect was on my mind. For whatever reason going 20-24 hours without food made my thoughts more lucid. After a few months this no longer happened so I quit. It had minimal effects on my body weight though.

With that said, I've found that the best way to regulate weight and appetite is by cutting soda (I drink maybe two a month) and by taking psyllium fiber twice a day.
