Le'Veon Bell 'Would Definitely Consider' Sitting Out 2018 or Retiring If Given Franchise Tag Again

Nah. You wrong on that. He's gonna split carries with Conner. No way they take Conner off the field for someone who sat out that long. Now, where this benefits the Steelers is having Bell line up at WR and Conner in the backfield. Take Switzer or Washington off the field and have Bell in the slot. Causes matchup nightmares with Conner and Bell in the huddle at the same time. You have to keep a base defense out there which likely means Bell will be matched up against a linebacker. Samuels probably won't dress when Bell cames back but those guys will spit the carries. Trust, Conner is not coming off the field.

They're not going to line Bell up at WR and keep Conner in the backfield. I guarantee you that. They're going to ease him back in and he'll be starting in 2-3 weeks and Conner will still get playing time. But conner is going to be the clear back up. There will be occasions where they see the field at the same time, but Bell is going to be the starting RB getting a majority of the snaps. They're not going to pay Bell all that money per game and not play the shit out of him. Watch. Conner is going to get 8-12 carries per game and 2/3 receptions. He's going to be the change of pace back... he'll play the Ingram role. and it only makes sense. If Conner is going to be the replacement, just keep his legs fresh and get all the touches out of Bell that you can since you're paying him damn near $1M per game.

Let me ask.............have you been watching the Steelers? You seen Conner or you just been watching ESPN highlights? Watching the Steelers you would see the slow start James Washington has gotten off too. Ryan Switzer is not the answer in the slot. Neither is Justin Hunter. That's why the nigga can't get a helmet every week and is deactivated. Look, the Steelers have no problem paying Bell his money for this year. If they did, they wouldn't have set aside 14 mil for the franchise tag to begin with. Could have used that money to add defensive pieces the way it turned out. But what they saved on Bell goes into the cap for next year so they can spend which is good. Trust the money they pay Bell will not have an impact on Tomlin starting him over Conner. Did you hear Tomlin last week when asked about Bell's absence? "We need volunteers, not hostages." That doesn't sound like someone who's gonna just be thrown back in the lineup because of how much he's getting paid. Coaches don't define their depth charts like that. Trust me when I say its gonna go down like I typed before. Plus, here's a little side note, who knows what kind of shape Bell is in? We assume he's in good football shape but every year he stays away from camp, shows up at the last minute and looks like ass for the first two weeks. Go back and look at his stats the last two years first two games. James Conner is rolling. You don't station a rolling train under any circumstances in November.

Free Agent but not unrestricted free agent if he doesn't play a game. He's going to play. They're going to play the shit out of him too to get their money's worth. He'll be on another team

And if they didn't want to pay him this year, they're not going to match him next year.

We won't know if he's made the smart play until next season. If a team like the Texans give him guaranteed money consistent with a player of his value (RB1 and WR2 combined), he's going to get paid. And having 200 less carries on your body (if he comes back and gets a full workload to finish the season) going into free agency helps your case and decreases the chances of a major injury. Bell was getting 400 touches a year. He deserved the bread. Most people admit that after Gurley got paid but the Steelers didn't want to set the RB market and after Gurley got paid it was too late.

Conner balling out made him less valuable to the Steelers but Connor still has only been this productive for 8 games.. we'll see.
No doubt someone will pay him for his talents but it won’t be what he wants or thinks he is worth after this stunt

Yeah. I actually watched the games. You’ve not heard me say one negative thing about Conner. It’s just business. They aren’t going to pay Bell (the better RB) a million dollars a game and not run the shit out of him. And now Conner is in the concussion protocol too. Watch. And I didn’t say he would be thrown right in. I said in 2-3 weeks he’ll be taking most of the snaps. Tomlin is not going to keep the better player in a reserve role over this. And you’re not going to turn Bell into a slot receive just to keep
Conner on the field. If Bell is healthy and can play, he’s going to take the bulk of the snaps at RB. You’ll see

Wrong. As a veteran coach you also take into account the pulse of your locker room. Players want Conner to play. They love this kid. I'm telling you right now Conner's not backing up shit. Bell in the slot is a good problem to have. You make it seem like that's a bad thing. He is s probowl type receiver there. Bell will get carries. And Conner will play the slot. Just get it completely out of your mind Conner will be buried in the depth chart. Tomlin don't give a fuck how much money Bell is making. And Art Rooney will not interfere or put pressure on how much of little Bell is used cause of how much he's getting paid. This is not the Browns or the Raiders, a clown show. Steelers are ran like a well oiled machine. Through good and bad. Bells usage won't have shit to do with his money.

They were saying the same thing you are on sports talk. The huge bright side is Laveon should be fresh for the playoffs. Ya'll will be clicking at the right time. Just have to figure out how to use them both, which they should have been working on for weeks now.

Right. Trust Tomlin and Fichtner have been working on packages for both for weeks now. Shit will be a nightmare to defend.

Players were buying lottery tickets to get Bell back two weeks ago so stop acting like they don't want him back. They're happy that Conner showed up. The NFL is all about next man up. . Conner is a feel-good story and he's been balling, but he's going to be the backup just like every other time Bell has sat and come back (for injuries). The backups have always been VERY productive in Pittsburg. Shit old ass DeAngelo Williams finished out 2014 with GREAT numbers and he didn't even get picked up after he got cut. Steelers have a great zone-blocking running scheme (similar to the Chiefs) in that good backups are always very productive.

And you're out of your mind if you don't think salaries play a role ..especially at RB. They're not going to run an inferior back into the ground (that might be their future) when they're paying a better back $1M a game that won't be back next year. Come on, son? You know RBs have a short shelf-life right where literally increased carries shorten their careers? It's an issue specific to the position and that's why Bell wanted a new contract. That's why when the Cowboys knew they weren't bringing Demarco Murray they gave him 400 carries and ruined him.

Conner is going to be the change of pace back and he's going to also get on the field, at times, when they put LeVeon in the slot and want to give a different look to the defense. Just remember what I said in 2-3 weeks.

Ok. Watch. You'll see. Both guys will get carries but Bell is a better slot man than Conner right now. So Bell will be out there more. Period. Again, trust when I say Tomlin will not game plan based off how much money Bell is making. What successful coach does shit like that? Rooney doesn't involve himself in coaches planning and preparation. They let people they hire do their damn jobs. That's why the Steelers have had only 3 coaches since 68'. You thinking the Steelers run shit like everybody else they don't. That common place nonsense that goes on in places like Oakland, Dallas, Washington and Cleveland doesn't happen here. Don't know why you don't take that into consideration. You got an entire stadium chanting Conner's name now you think a guy who stayed away half the year is gonna just move him to the bench without any carries? :smh: Come on man think. And the Steelers wanted to see how Samuels ran in the Panther game just in case Le'Veon comes back acting like a fool or is not in shape. Keep in mind if he's not in shape or acts stupid they can request and get a 2 week roster exempt that wont pay his fuckin ass but he still has to be there. More shit I'm sure his agent didn't go over with him. The agent has also come out and stated he didn't know Le'Veon is eligible for a QB franchise tag that will pay him 30 million like Shaddy said earlier. :smh: Da fuck kind of agent is this that doesn't know all of the options for his client. :smh:

Hopefully some of the behind the scenes negotiations become public at some point to shed more light on what happened here. Leveon has been ready to sign At least twice this season and its fallen apart At the last minute. My guess is the Steelers are doing some behind the curtain bad faith dealing thats led to this point.

Too much has been said by Bell and Team, I don’t think it’s wise to bring him back into the locker room, it’s going to be a huge distraction, just on a teammate/coaching level aspect, next you have to deal with the media! The final straw is when Tomlin said they want volunteers not hostages. Then you have to look at it from Bells side, this is all about money! Why should he come back for 6 million and run the risk of injury messing up his chance for his next contract. I think it’s great if you can take a full year off to rest your body as long he’s still in shape. I think Dez getting hurt is somewhere in the back of his mind. With that said no of us should be surprised Bell isn’t playing this year, he made it clear last season he will not play on Franchise tag for another year. He clearly expressed this! Now
If the Steelers didn’t take him seriously than that’s on them! As a result they found Connor so that the good that has come out of this for them.

You got some guys making league minimum yet you want them to take a stand for a guy who is leaving all that money on the table
But that money ain’t going to them.
You can’t shit on a guy trying to get paid. They should have worded their concerns in a better way that helps all players. Like a fully guaranteed contract for all players.

He left 15 million on the table save me that trying to get paid shit. Their union bargained the deal so don’t complain now maybe next time the contracts will be fully guaranteed. At the end of the day all I see is a guy crying becsuse 15 million ain’t enough for him.

The last contract he was offered would have made him the highest paid RB in the NFL but I guess he wants QB money. Damn the defense

That wasn't filled with guaranteed money.

Not you, but fans need to quit buggin. He made a life choice, bold, but firm. Maybe it works out for him personally.:dunno:

I like it because, he took this stand. This guy is an elite talent. He'll get somebody to pay him.

Yup. And be happy going 6-10 the rest of his career probably too. :smh: Go head and take dat money from the Jets, Dolphins or Lions and see how da fuck dat shit turns out.

Oh, he'd love Miami. That's too easy.

This is the thing, I understand, but just move on. He caught hella passes too.

If he's wrong, he's wrong. But he feels slighted, and not passionate about playing for PIT anymore.

:dunno: Not mad at him. I'm sure his teammates will be happy they won't be asked about him anymore. That has to be annoying as fuck.

I don't believe you know how it works. 10 million guaranteed.

They could've cut him after this year, via Conner, at a minimal loss. Guaranteed money is where it's at. Gurley got a lot off the bat.

And there are minimal details in that tweet. What are the details/ incentives? Why not just guarantee him 50 off the bat? Seems shady.
I can guarantee you he wasn't gonna get cut. Steelers have never done that with a player they signed to a massive deal.

So why not guarantee him Gurley type money? If its not shady. Or too org friendly.

Pay me such and such regardless. Ben's timeline plays a factor in this too.

And his "incentives" could've been cut drastically via Conner, a serious injury, or whatever, for all we know. We don't know the details of that contract offer.

Probably because the Steelers figured they needed money for defensive free agents. Dupree is in his last year of his deal and has underperformed until this year. Who knew Bostic would be this solid at the middle linebacker spot. They needed roster flexibility to make possible moves. That scenario is very real.
