Red Dead Redemption 2 (spoilers)

Got a $300 bounty because I didn't have my bandana on during the Micah mission. May just restart too. I saved over a previous save before someone on Reddit told me about the bandanna.
I was in the same boat, but I held out on restarting, found a stranger who gave me a map, found 2 gold bars, fenced them for $500.00 each, paid off bounty and built up my camp too!

I looked around and made sure no one was around before killing a stranger on his horse...this is out in the open field...literally did not see anyone else in any direction...a “witness” magically appeared a few yards away on horse...I chase him down and kill him then got a message that said “enemies were led to camp” and next thing I know I’m back in my tent...I was a decent ways away from camp before doing all of this...this is the frustrating thing about R* campaigns for GTA/RDR series...they say it’s open-world but the experience can be rather limited/linear in many instances...“breath of the wild” was a true open-world experience w/ very few limitations which makes me look @ these other games pretty hard
I bought the halloween mask from the fence and now no more witnesses.

Btw, remember to save the game quite often

What's a good way to get some money? Like a few hundred dollars. I'm just sitting on a $120, I need more money dammit.

Assist.

First, run a few of the ‘Main Story’ missions (with the yellow markers). These will usually net you a decent payday because you will probably have to kill a few folks along the way & loot their dead carcasses, to find valuables that you can either sell, or keep for yourself.

Especially run the main missions that involve the old guy named Hosea. He usually has a decent ‘money making’ scheme (or two) up his sleeve. First, I think he takes you to hunting to find a Legendary Grizzly Bear. But his 2nd or 3rd mission (I forget which) will involve robbing a stagecoach from a pair of dimwitted farmers (father & son).

Hosea will cause a distraction to lure the 2 farmers out of their house, which gives you enough time to sneak around back & commit a burglary on their home. Search all the cabinets & drawers. Take everything you can find (both upstairs & downstairs) and keep an eye on their location (ie the 2 red dots on the map) so you can slide out the backdoor again before they get finally tired of Hosea’s gibberish & come back inside.

Then you & Hosea will both sneak into the barn nearby & steal their stagecoach... and deliver it to the Crooked Stable Owner (I dunno his name). This mission should get you a few hundred dollars of cash & burglary items, plus another few hundred dollars for selling the stagecoach.

SIDENOTE: if you have a large bounty on your head, the local shopkeepers may be hesitant to do business with you, so running this stagecoach mission with Hosea will unlock ‘The Fence’ in most cities, where you can now go to sell your stolen merchandise discreetly, even if you have a bounty on your head.

If you want to make even more money, run the bounty hunter missions, or get treasure maps from helping random strangers, in side missions. The bounties are posted in the Sheriff’s office in every city. Walk in, and talk to the Sheriff and he will put you to work. Most of them pay about $50-$100 bucks, or so (sometimes a lot more) & they are usually pretty easy to chase down / ‘capture alive’ with a rope.

Another way to make decent money is to talk to/help out the WOMEN in the camp. Do some of the 'chores' around the campsite (marked by the small black dots on the map) and/or take them into town if/when they ask you for a favor... and they will be your ‘eyes & ears’ in the city... and will inform you of ‘easy marks’, or the houses of lonely widows, or small heists, or rival gangs and ‘illegal business’ (or poker games) that you can rob (or burglarize) to make a quick buck.

At first, the jobs they tell you about will be small... but the paydays should get bigger & bigger the more you engage with them.

Running the main story missions will lead to big heist missions every so often, but the ‘biggest paydays’ are not that common. :dunno:

I don’t have a problem w/ having to deal w/ a witness...I just hate the unfair NPC spawning that R* does...they’ve been doing this since ‘san andreas’...it’s almost cheating on their end...but thanks for the mask advice...I will try it next time

quite simply I just loot bodies after shootout missions...then there’s another mission where you find $600 in the chimney after another shootout...I had a good stack of $$$ but I blew a lot of it quickly on fixing up two horses

NPC spawning is only an issue in RDR. You really don't feel the repercussions of your actions in GTA. Sure you get a star warnings and police come after you. In RDR they flash the wanted and you see the witness MURDER next which hits home in a way. Saved an outlaw in the back of a wagon which started with me killing 2 and led to 2 more kills and a hogtie of the last witness.

nah not remotely true...for instance...and this is just one of many examples...when playing survival mode in GTA V...when you’re fighting against a wave...too many times I’ve seen folks battle down to the last man or two just to get killed by an NPC that spawned out of nowhere...it’s almost like a cheat code on their end to make the game seem more difficult than it is

if you witness a murder or find a dead body put on your mask / bandana before looting
If you are doing anything questionable or happen to be around when it goes down - put on mask / bandana

This is first game I've played that puts the player in the wrong / right place at the worst possible time scenarios

I ran across a npc in the swamp - he told me to leave than fired at me - after I killed him - I got close up and saw 2 more dead bodies he was apparently trying to get rid of - thats when an npc cop came around the bend and saw me....

Two different instances of spawning.

Two different instances of spawning.

spawning is spawning which represents an issue I’ve had w/ R* missions regardless of when/how it occurs...they’re 2 different games so of course the instances will differ

Does wearing a bandanna help when going into Blackwater?
I dunno about Blackwater. :dunno:

But wearing a bandanna while committing crimes in any other city definitely reduces your ‘Wanted’ level. You can rob a shopkeeper... race off on horseback... evade any lawmen in pursuit... then come right back in a few minutes, like nothing happened.:rolleyes::lol:

Just noticed that scavenger birds eat out the eyes of dead like in real life. The npc who gets kicked by his horse I looted after other npc's passed. Birds were already feasting on him when I looted. The eyes were pulled out.

Just a random tip >> whenever you press [option button] to pause the game, the pocket-watch in the top left corner of the menu always displays the current time of day/or night in the game :D

Very handy if you ever try to run a mission that depends on being at a specific location... at a specific time of day/or night.

Another Random Tip >> Remember to “Save” your Game Manually. ALOT.

(From the Pause Menu >> Go to ‘Story’ >> ‘Save Game’)

There is an ‘autosave’ feature that works behind the scenes... but you can very easily spend a very long time running missions, or hunting wild animals, or catching bounties, or doing whatever... and one simple mistake can kill you... and you end up losing the last hour of gameplay progression / or cash / or items.

Not 100% sure about this :dunno: ... but I think the big difference is that the ‘AutoSave’ feature tends to save the game at the nearest ‘checkpoint’ (like at your Base Camp, or wherever you are as soon as you complete a mission) whereas, a ‘Manual Save’ will Save your EXACT location on the Map (which might save you some ‘travel time’ between missions, especially if you didn’t ‘save’ your progress for awhile & had to respawn from an AutoSave checkpoint that might be far away.)
