What thwarting

despite it outperforming new releases they cut the movie screens in half.

Like it was killing the other movies and staying in the top 10 and in that case when you have a movie like that you keep it out to maximize money... That's just what studios are in the business of doing right?
Instead they cut the screens in half them by even more even though on a per theater basis it stayed in the top 10
Was weird to see a studio be like well that's enough money to make lol we don't need to make as much as possible

Not to the mention the blu ray and digital release were barely 3 months after theatrical debut.

Remember they had to cut screens because infinity war was coming out. Which is another billion dollar blockbuster.

Do you really think Disney does not want to make money? Now if infinity wars came out in July then they would have kept black panther as long as possible

Disney made every effort to get BP over 700 million movie was in theaters for 25 weeks.....Disney would never try to make less money.

I know they cut the screens in half, but they were working against themselves with having so many movies out during that time. Infinity War, Solo, Deadpool... There may be another one

Black panther was still hot when Infinity war came out. It was still in the top 10 more than 2 months after it premiered

They cut screens in March.
I literally was going to go see it again and then checked back the next day and all the times were GONE
Infinity wars didn't come out until May.

It really didn't but also it's not a huge deal.
They cut the theaters RIGHT when it was getting its 2nd wind after the 1st wind of crazy
They tried to push whatever that kids movie was on us and they tried to make way for other movies... the thing is they didn't expect it to do what it did. Feb is usually the dead month where people sneak in movies and make a killing. But it was killing all the guaranteed profits of others. there was an actual article in here from hollywood people complaining about black panther's success cause it was killing the other movies people hoped would do well and when faced with seeing some garbage or black panther people chose to see black panther again.
