As far as "Inside My Love,", Minnie Riperton's original was good, but Trina Broussard's version was just as good, if not better (mainly because of the backing music, because vocally, they sound very similar).

Here, Queen Latifah did extremely well (shocked the hell out of me when I first heard it), but the musicians backing her sounded excellent as well (probably due to producing). Because of the combination, the Queen's version was much better.

Not quite a cover I guess... Stevie wrote the song in 1966 as a teenager. Can you cover a song you wrote?

I liked the O'Jays version, but I LOVED Third World's version (I didn't include Heavy D's version - which was great for parties - because he only used the hook from the song.)
That's a really good question. Perhaps it would be more accurate to call Stevie's recording a rendition rather than a cover. I found out from Wikipedia why I never knew Tammi Terrell recorded it first:
"...Tammi Terrell recorded the original version of the song that year, but her version never saw release in her lifetime and remained in the Motown vaults until it was posthumously included on the compilation A Cellarful of Motown! in the UK in 2002, 32 years after her death."
I can't agree with either of these, brother. Trina's voice is nowhere near Minnie's, nor is Dana's close to Cory's. I understand the charts are different but not enough to elevate the inferior vocals. If you listen to Dr Buzzard with some cans you'll hear nuances in the music that are brilliant. And Cory basically vamps every single line. Her phrasing and attack are so sophisticated they make Dana look like an amateur. Not that Dana's version is necessarily bad. It just can't compete with DBOSB with Cory out front.
As for Minnie, she's easily one of the top 5 female R&B vocalists of all time and Trina Broussard is...well, she isn't.
If we could take the vocals and switch them, the quality of Cory and Minnie would still carry the songs.
Hmmm, the overproduced Isaac version or the pop-oriented Dionne? I love Dionne's voice so she gets the nod. I always thought Isaac overproduced his stuff. Especially after his spoken word intros became popular.
I've always loved The Miracle's harmony with Claudette but this cut is bland.
Ruffin sounds uninspired.
Ross' monotomous, flat delivery doesn't work.
I've always liked TTD's chops. He does a great job on this one.
Michael elevates it from just another cover.
