Netflix: Luke Cage Season 2 (Discussion Thread) - Spoilers Approved (Update Cancelled!!)

Thank you for pointing this out. I found it kinda awkward how easily Misty seemed to be with that. Also, I thought Clarie based on the Dare Devil stuff was staying away from relationships with Super humans?
I was kind of thinking the same thing as well, but then I chalked it up to her not wanting anything or anyone messing up her career. How would it look her dating a former robbery and murder suspect and current escaped convict?

Not sure what to say about Claire. It did seem like he wore her defenses down after awhile, and it didn't hurt that he was damn near indestructible. It was less likely that she would need to fix him up as much as she would have if it was Dare Devil. Of course, when he did get her hurt the medical care needed was much more extreme...lol.

It's cool and didn't take much away from the show. Now the whole cottonmouth thing and how he went out. That changed the whole tenor of the show. Ol boy went out and won himself and oscar...shit! Congrats!!

Luke Cage Nominated For Peabody Award

“Never backwards. Always forward."

The groundbreaking Marvel-Netflix series Luke Cage, being the first in the MCU to feature a predominantly African-American cast, has been nominated for a Peabody Award in the category of "Entertainment and Children's programs." The award itself spotlights "instances of how electronic media can teach, expand our horizons, defend the public interest, or encourage empathy with others."

Other nominees in the category include ABC's American Crime, FX's Atlanta, FX's Better Things, Goalpost Pictures and Pukeko Pictures' Cleverman, BBC's Happy Valley, Pig Newton's Horace and Pete, HBO's Lemonade, Channel 4 and Hulu's National Treasure, Netflix's Stranger Things, NBC's This Is Us, HBO's The Night Of, and HBO's VEEP.

If Luke Cage wins that will a second straight victory for a Marvel-Netflix show, as Jessica Jones won a Peabody last year.

After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city - forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.

Luke Cage stars Mike Colter (Marvel’s Jessica Jones, The Good Wife) as the charismatic lead character, Mahershala Ali (House of Cards) as the villainous Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes, Alfre Woodard (12 Years a Slave, Annabelle) local Harlem politician Mariah Dillard, Simone Missick (Ray Donovan) as Harlem police detective Misty Knight, Theo Rossi (Sons of Anarchy, Bad Hurt) as the ruthless criminal Shades, Frank Whaley (Ray Donovan, Pulp Fiction) as hard-nosed NYPD detective Rafael Scarfe, Rosario Dawson reprising her Marvel’s Daredevil role as nurse Claire Temple, and Sonia Braga (Kiss of the Spider Woman, Moon Over Parador) as Claire Temple's mother, Soledad Temple.

Luke Cage season 2: Mike Colter confirms production will begin in June

After rumours started to swirl last week that Luke Cage season 2 had already started filming, star Mike Colter felt moved to confirm that production on the Marvel show won't actually begin for a few more months.

The actor appeared at the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo last week, where he told comicbook.com that the season 2 shoot will commence in June and wrap next March.

The solo superhero series has a been hit for Netflix, but the streaming service hasn't yet announced when we can expect the new season of Luke Cage to drop. We're likely looking at a late-2018 start, however.

Showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker has also previously spoken about his vision for the second season. "Now in my mind - we don’t go into Heroes For Hire in season one of Luke Cage - Luke Cage season one is ultimately about the evolution of a hero. I think what’s appealing about Luke is the fact that he’s just somebody who’s just your normal, average guy. He presents himself that way. He’s not pretentious, but then at the same time, feels a responsibility to kind of push forward. We’re not treating it as a one-off, and I’m confident people will dig the show, but, trust me, like season two, I’ve got a few ideas. But we really won’t get ready until Netflix sees the viewership, and hopefully, the subscriptions that will come from this show, and then they’ll say, 'Let’s get into it.'"

It's unclear how Luke Cage's second season will be affected by the fallout from The Defenders and Jessica Jones' next run, but you'd imagine the basic story arcs are already in place.

We'll bring you more as we have it.

Luke Cage season 2 release date
There's no release date info at the moment, other than the 'coming soon' promised in the renewal announcement video, which you can see on page 2 here. However, if season 2 of Luke Cage is pressing ahead near-simultaneously with Jessica Jones season 2, we could see it squeak onto Netflix in 2018.

Of course, if it turns out we're wrong about that, we'll update you as soon as possible.

Theo Rossi Reveals Shades Is Returning For Luke Cage Season 2

As if The Hand isn't bad enough, the streets of Harlem will be crawling with villains in Luke Cage season two. According to one of the show's stars, Shades is back in action.

During an interview with Parade, Theo Rossi revealed that he is returning for the second season of Luke Cage. He was speaking about his upcoming film Lowriders, and was asked about what's coming up next on his schedule.

"Luke Cage is going down, [we’re in] season two. We’re pretty excited, it’ll be nice to get back into the swing."

If you recall, Shades left season one on a bit of a mysterious note. He has officially taken a position with Mariah, and he's ready to wreak more havoc on the neighborhood. It's not exactly surprising to hear that Shades is going to be around for a second season, but it's nice to get the confirmation.

Luke Cage is set to begin production on season two this year, but the title character will be seen in The Defenders team-up series this August.

Luke Cage Struts Down The Street In New Season 2 Set Videos

Luke Cage's first season took the world by storm when it premiered last fall. And with filming for season two well underway, new set videos show that the titular hero will be strutting his stuff in the next installment of the Netflix series.

A pair of Twitter videos from this past weekend reveal that Luke Cage was filming in Brooklyn's Crown Heights neighborhood. You can check out the videos, which feature series star Mike Colter walking down the street, below.

Obviously, there isn't a lot plot-wise that can be gleaned from these videos. But it is noteworthy that Luke appears to be wearing the same bullet hole-covered hoodie he donned in season one. This might disappoint fans who are looking for Luke to wear a more protective costume in the show's second outing, or at least a slightly-different ensemble like his Defenders teammate and onetime love interest Jessica Jones.

Fans have a lot of reasons to be excited for Luke Cage's second season, which will premiere in 2018. The series recently added Bushmaster and Nightshade to its cast, and fan-favorite actress and director Lucy Liu is set to helm the season premiere episode.

In the meantime, Marvel fans will get to see more of Luke Cage when The Defenders premieres on August 18.

Luke Cage Star Isn’t Sold on a Heroes For Hire Crossover

Luke Cage
lead Mike Colter doesn’t seem to be too keen on the prospect of a Heroes for Hire spin-off for him and Finn Jones. Making their big splash in the comics in the late ’70s, Luke Cage aka. Power Man and Iron First teamed up in a three-part storyline where they offer their superhero services to people who are in need of assistance regarding personal security and private investigating. Stemming from Luke’s own narrative, the two debuted their own company named Heroes for Hire Inc. based in New York with additional assistance from Colleen Wing and Misty Knight. After a series of successful missions, they eventually went global as they dabbled in international issues like hunting notorious syndicates and high profile criminals, but stayed away from extralegal activities.

At this point, the Marvel/Netflix franchise already have the important pieces to launch a Heroes for Hire off-shoot. With second seasons of Luke Cage and Iron Fist on the docket, a team-up show for the two appears to be the natural progression, especially with a sophomore outing of The Defenders still in limbo. However, Colter doesn’t sound too enthusiastic about it.

Despite his great working relationship with Jones, it sounds like Colter is leaning more towards solo outings than team-up adventures. Not that he doesn’t want to share the spotlight with other leads, the actor explains that his views about it are purely because of the narrative limitations crossovers have that individual shows usually don’t. “Me and Finn get along rather well, we’re pretty cool. I think our characters play well off each other. It’s always nice to see your favourites play together but the stakes to the game are not as high as when they play for their own individual teams,”he told Empire’s Pilot TV (via ComicBook).

The actor may not be too excited about the prospect but, Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker admits that the idea for the project is something that is being discussed within Marvel TV. It’s also something fans presumed would happen after Luke and Danny were paired up early on in The Defenders. If anything, it was a testing pad to launch the aforementioned team-up show. The fact that Iron Fist is also making an appearance in Luke Cage season 2 is a sign executives are still convinced a spin-off featuring the fictional tag team can still work on the small screen. Coker said:

“It’s something that’s in the air. Internally at Marvel Television, everybody knows there’s a part of that combination that is inevitable, particularly when you watch them together in the way that we did it. If feels right. It feels good. It feels like, ‘I want to see more of this combination. Heroes for Hire is really not off the table.'”

Colter’s comment is a major turn around from his previous sentiments regarding the possibility of a Heroes for Hire series. Last year, before The Defenders came out, he and Jones were also asked for their thoughts on the prospect – and they were pretty positive, especially with the interesting dynamic that they have going on in the immediate aftermath of their meet-up. Admittedly, their banter in the four-way crossover was fun and entertaining. It’s just unfortunate that Iron Fist, and everything associated with the show, continues to be marred by the bad reception of its debut season.

Luke-Cage-Anabella-Sciorra-cast-as-Rosalie-Carbone.jpg

https://screenrant.com/luke-cage-season-2-anabella-sciorra-rosalie-carbone/

Marvel’s Luke Cage has cast The Sopranos actress Annabella Sciorra as a new villain, Rosalie Carbone, in the upcoming second season of the street-level superhero show. Season 2 of Marvel’s Jessica Jones only recently arrived on Netflix, but already fans are looking ahead to the next addition to the Defenders mini-verse, which will see Mike Colter return as the titular bulletproof protector of Harlem.

Season 1 of Luke Cage created some hard acts to follow on the villain front: Mahershala Ali, who later went on to win an Oscar for his role in Moonlight, played the charismatic Cottonmouth; Alfre Woodard played unscrupulous politician Mariah Dillard; and Erik LaRay Harvey played Luke’s half-brother Willis Stryker a.k.a. Diamondback. With Cottonmouth dead and Diamondback arrested, however, there’s now a power gap in Harlem’s criminal underworld – and Rosalie Carbone is stepping in to fill that gap.

Punisher-Rosalie-Carbone.jpg

As with previous Luke Cage villains, Rosalie is lifted straight from the comics – primarily from the Punisher: War Journal and Punisher: War Zone series – where she was a member of the Carbone crime family. Based on the character details given to EW, the TV version of Rosalie won’t stray too far from the source material. Sciorra’s Rosalie is described as “a dangerous downtown criminal underworld power player with an eye, and an agenda, toward Harlem.” Presumably she is no longer a Mafia princess, as she was in the earlier comics, but is in charge of all the Carbone family’s nefarious operations.

Sciorra is no stranger to crime drama, having starred in thrillers like The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, Romeo is Bleeding and Cop Land, and she also played Tony Soprano’s love interest Gloria Trillo in The Sopranos. Luke Cageshowrunner Cheo Hodari Coker explained to EW that he’s been a longtime follower of Sciorra’s work.

“I’ve been a huge fan of hers since Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever, and Annabella Sciorra is no joke as Rosalie Carbone… You haven’t seen her this gangster since her thrilling turn as Tony’s formidable flame Gloria Trillo on season 3 of The Sopranos. I’m thrilled her introduction to the Marvel Universe will be on Marvel’s Luke Cage.”

The official synopsis for Luke Cage season 2 mentioned “the rise of a formidable new foe” who will force Luke to “confront the fine line that separates a hero from a villain.” It seems safe to assume that Rosalie Carbone is this formidable foe – and with the power of a crime syndicate behind her, she could cook up a whole lot of trouble.

Man I'm sick of ol bony ass Rosario Dawson skull drug ass. Kill her off. Doesn't really add shit to either show to me. Or rename her side piece lady
