First vid of Venom

Venom is cool and all but I only care about my dude right here...

I’m a massive Venom Fan and this is a fail for me... I’m going to watch it cause it’s venom but this is just to much change to the backstory. I mean .. the venom symbiotes feeling of abandonment when rejected by peter Parker and Brock’s hatred at Peter Parker and Spider-Man... goes to explain why they work so well... and then it makes it feel earned when Venom becomes the Anti-hero... because basically it was cause Brock saw he could be better but also as middle finger to Spider-Man as a “anything you can do I can better” type of thing.

Like Spider-Man is the connective tissue..... that makes it work. Taking out Spider-Man is the equivalent of having Bruce Wayne’s parents never robbed and they are both alive and kicking...

I disagree with a lot of what you're saying. Yes Brock becomes and down on his luck reporter/photographer, with "become" the key word. From the looks of that apartment my man wasn't balling out of control. I think he is idealistic right now after they introduce him to Peter, the Symbiote rejects Brock and then gets rejected by Peter only to come back to Brock is when he will be at his down and out period. I think the changes that are made will make sense in the long run, but I have been wrong before. HOPEFULLY I won't be :dunno: I am excited for the potential that this has down the road, but Hollywood execs aren't fanboys so... Great I just explained myself out of my own excitement :curse:

Man... whomp whomp:smh:

This just doesn’t make sense.. why does he look like Spider man ... if there is no Spider-Man

And Eddie Brock works as the down on his luck asshole beat reporter. This trailer makes it seem like Eddie has some respect in journalism.

Tom Hardy is a legend... so dude is going to bring it. I’d do just to see him... but this trailer didn’t overwhelm me with confidence...

Pretty much this, and then almost every other thing fonz has said this thread.

The core of what makes Venom work as a character is his origin and connection to Parker/Spider-Man. Without that, it's just Prototype or one of those other games as a movie. And mind you, that wouldn't suck, but the core of what makes the character solid is lost.

The Spectacular Spider-Man animated series is the only thing that got a solid Venom backstory out without all of the comic book origin BS, and that's because they laid the groundwork for Brock and Peter's connection beforehand. People are going to try to hype an eventual meeting with Spider-man in a later movie, but who will care when they have no connection of any sort beforehand. And that's the problem with the average fanboy. They're more concerned with hype than substance.

I think that it's going to be the best movie it would be without touching the core property. But I could also argue that the same could be said about Catwoman, and we know how that turned out.

Venom is cool and all but I only care about my dude right here...

5039638-carnage_h509.jpg

And speaking of hype over substance.... enter Carnage. I think I legit started to dislike Venom because of Carnage fanboys. Not knocking you, because I get the appeal, and Carnage has had a few solid stories. But Carnage is literally a one-off character that people never let go of. He's very much like The Joker, in that he works well in a small space or singular story and in rare appearances. But every time Venom comes up, people start in with, "When's Carnage?" like he's the best part of Venom. He is not.

I didn't know that they completely divorced him from the Spiderman universe. What the fuck is even the point? Sony has the rights to the goddamn Spiderman!

Peter Parker isn’t in this movie... fam

Based on the trailer it looks like they are going with the modern scientifically created and not alien origin for the symbiote and keeping the same way that the symbiote connected with Peter except they substituted Brock for Peter.

Again I’m going to watch it...

This isn’t like Ghostbusters 2016... where I outright refused to go see... and still don’t even have that abomination in the Plex collection... I actually hope that I’m wrong with this film. Like I said earlier Tom Hardy is going to sell this film... I just hate that the things that work with Venom work only because of the Spider-Man connection..

Spider-Man is the thing that Fuels everything about Venom.. that’s what made Venom so dangerous as a Villian for Spider-Man but it also is the connective tissue for why Venom later decides to try and be a hero. Again... Spider-Man is basically “Batmans parents” .... they are part of the being of that character. If you don’t have Spider-Man... then just redesign Venom. They have redesigned Venom multiple times in comics... they could have gone with the Agent Venom design in this first movie..

Watched the trailer again...

So maybe the symbiote comes from Space... I hope it is and not man made.

It also looks like Eddie is possibly down on his luck.

Also IMDb... is still listing Tom Holland to be rumored to be in this. But based on this trailer... I just don’t see how that is going to work. You just can’t have Peter Parker walk by to say “Hey you guys”

I’m looking forward to this one! I believe it’s loosely based on Venon: Lethal Protector

link for those that want to give it a read:
http://readcomiconline.to/Comic/Venom-Lethal-Protector

Just saw that Michelle Lee is playing Donna Diego in this... so it looks like they are going with the 5 seed angle from lethal protector. If so then I’m all in..... they will likely make one of the seeds the big final boss battle and then use the post credits to show Kassidy. Probably have a couple news clips through the movie of the capture of a serial killer as teasers.

Sorry I meant that this would most likely span two more Spiderman movies, with the first only introducing Venom probably ending . With the last having Venom be the main bad. And I think the beginning of the trailer made it seem like the Symbiote does come from space.

I actually saw the behind the scenes studio strategy. They are going to reboot it four times with different actors and redo the origin story each time and see if any of it sticks.

Brilliant. Uncle Ben dies each time!

@fonzerrillii

I would argue you aren't like the average HUGE Venom fan...

they aren't going to be as critical they just gonna be happy its happening and its not complete and utter sh*t

I feel like it will be a "dead[pool" situation and make ore than expected solely based on the fan loyalty

now AFTER that?
Well most likely it will cave in and drop but again I may be working off his FX series

but it does look like Hardy is going to DRAG this sh*t to the finish line

You saying he couldn't "The Rock: this movie to a decent opening weekend?
not in October...

look even with Deadpool there was a massive marketing campaign
so lets see how much Sony spends on marketing...
if its shit... here is what opening weekend looks like:

This is awfully similar to Upgrade starring Tom Hardy
Upgrade looks 1000x better than this...

thats exactly whats going to happen

Man if the movie is successful they can do whatever they want. Having a actor the caliber of Tom Hardy is a good thing. Even if they don't attach Spidey to the film they can go the route of Agent Venom which is the rumor for future films.

@ViCiouS aint been wrong yet

that's what I am talking bout
really nailed the symbiotic relationship between and how it's partially the reason Eddie can be batshit crazy at times

Venom Trailer Reveals Multiple Symbiotes

https://screenrant.com/venom-movie-trailer-multiple-symbiotes/

Venom-Movie-Five-Symbiotes.jpg

The newly released trailer for Venom has confirmed that the movie will feature multiple symbiotes. This was a point of some concern for fans of the Marvel Comics’ anti-hero, who were already worried about the upcoming movie starring Tom Hardy, due to the first trailer‘s lack of any scenes including the black-suited symbiote in action.

The question of how Fox could make a Venom movie independent of Spider-Man is another point that has perplexed fans of the character. In the original comics, Venom was created after Peter Parker rejected a partnership with an alien creature – the symbiote – who enhanced his strength and gave him camouflage powers but also encouraged his darker impulses. After having been driven away by Peter Parker, the symbiote found Eddie Brock – a disgraced reporter who blamed Spider-Man for his life falling apart. Together, the two would become merge to become Spider-Man’s worst enemy!

The trailer, which can be viewed above, sheds some light on how the movie will alter Venom’s origins for the sake of a film independent of Spider-Man. Here, we see Eddie Brock as a reporter, who is contacted about a sinister group called The Life Foundation. Brock’s investigation leads to his discovery of multiple symbiotes and the exposure that leads to him bonding with one to become Venom.

The trailer also confirms earlier reports that the plot of the movie will be based (at least in part) on the classic comic book story line Venom: Lethal Protector. This comic saw Eddie Brock being abducted by an organization called The Life Foundation and his symbiote being harvested to produced five “children” – Scream, Agony, Phage, Lasher and Riot. The trailer depicts several test subjects who have been bonded to symbiotes but we do not see enough of them to determine if any of them are based on the symbiotic characters from the comics.

Thankfully, the trailer does reveal enough – including a glimpse of Eddie Brock’s transformation into Venom – to calm the fears of the fandom that Venom would be, as director Kevin Smith quipped, “Tom Hardy: The Movie.” It remains to be seen if earlier rumors, such as Woody Harrelson playing the role of Cletus “Carnage” Kasady, will turn out to be true as well. Still, with the presence of multiple-symbiotes and the name drop of The Life Foundation seeming to confirm that the story will be taken straight from the comic books, fans everywhere can breathe a sigh of relief that The Lethal Protector is apparently being done justice.

Hot fucking trash. :smh:

I have respect for Tom Hardy, but I hate so much about this- from the "if you're going to stay, you can only hurt BAD people" to the "tongue" to the "superman" he does on the motorcycle to the "takes guy out with long projectile of black substance. from arm or back or stomach or whatever... like 4 or 5 times in the damn trailer?

wack.

They should have shown this dude creeping up walls in dark alleys, hovering over unsuspecting criminals' heads, almost "dripping" down from the ceiling.. coming out of shadows - like a wall of shadow but just those eyes and teeth can be seen... but nope, just black appendage here, black appendage there... Hey! two black appendages! and cars! and motorcycles!

:smh:

I haven't read venom since Todd McFarlane's Spider-Man, so maybe I'm wrong on the tone- but imo for a SOLO venom flick?

they should have done this as a tense horror-type flick; ( like darkman or something) or AT LEAST be as gritty as the netflix Punisher.

his relationship with the symbiote should have audiences wondering whether Eddie is crazy or actually hearing voices... and the damn thing sounds like he could discus global politics with it. Should sound more primal imo

Agreed

That is why I got hope, this could work like SPLIT did.

I got faith in Hardy...

Sony?

Not so much.

This is all well and good, but what are the odds this gets a part two to even get to see this happen?

Y'all stop shooting the movie down like its automatic shot because it's not attach to the MCU. Yes both Amazing Spider-Man films were lack luster but give them a chance to get some reviews.

Like one of the posters said, how does venom look like Spider-Man if it hasn’t even met him? Trailer leaves too many questions for me. Sony has Spider-Man why didn’t they just connect him from the jump?
Where’s the sinister six movie?
Where’s the black cat movie? Sony is DC but with marvel characters
