How many here really use a VPN for personal browsing?

you're clearly in IT or have friends, that's quite the setup you have.
i only use citrix at work and use my hackingtosh for downloads, no VPN, I've been hit by xfinity a time or two, nothing came of it.
still downloading, have not gotten a message in a while.
Same..got a few emails from ATT Uverse a while back..but I still torrent, I just make sure I don't seed. Had a VPN once, forgot it was on and tried to log into my bank account. All hell broke loose!

I got a cheap VPN last week that turned out to be just that. I figured if I didn't upload too much I wouldn't get a notice(using vuze). I limit uploads to arpund 6-7kB/s(it won't allow me to cut uploads totally off) and I still got a notice just now. I might have to see what windscibe is all about.

Look into seedboxes, it eliminates all risk, and can can even include apps to automate the downloading process of TV Shows, Movies and Music. I use bytesized hosting, but there is a bunch out there.

Don't use VyprVPN. I used it a lot last week and there some, uhh, anomalies. For instance when I was supposed to show up as being in Miami, Facebook said I was coming out of China. Then certain features started misbehaving/deactivating "on their own". It only got worse from there.

I haven't had any issues with NordVPN so far.

79 bucks for two years.

IPVanish started pretty good for the first year I had it. But when they did their update in Jan 2017, shit started going south.

Frequent disconnects, sometimes without notice. Imagine you are beginning to download a 30Gb file before work. Come home only to find the service disconnected an hour after you left your house. This means you've been sharing that file unprotected for HOURS. Expect an email/text/letter from your ISP.

It came to a point that i couldn't connect to the internet at all without first turning on the VPN.

Finally, the default OpenVPN port started acting screwy so i switched to another port LPT2 (nice that you have that option, at least), but it's slightly slower and it always defaults to the first location on the list instead of the location i originally told it to default.

So when it works as designed, it's awesome. Easy, fast, safe. But as of Jan 1, it's just a little less reliable. I won't use it unless I'm there to monitor in case it disconnects.

When my subscription runs out, I'll probably switch to Nord.

I use PIA private internet access VPN. Been on it for a few years. No letters from ISP or anything. Only issue is lately my work WiFi somehow be blocking it.... Any bgol techies know why, how and how to get around?

Trying to decide between Windscribe (3 yrs for $22, 5 yrs for $40, lifetime for $70) or PIA ($2.50/ month for two years =$60).

Seems like no brainer to go with Windscribe, but PIA came highly recommended from a few folks. Are there any major differences between the two?

For my needs Windscribe has been working out fine. However, I do not use it as a permanent VPN - I only use it occasionally to get into US blocked sites and to DL from the same site using multiple IP addresses. So far it's been fairly reliable, but I cannot compare them speed wise to anyone else. They do have their own subreddit, and Windscribe developers do participate.

Purchased Windscribe Lifetime Pro last fall from Stacksocial for $39.99 by using the Promo code WINDSCRIBESD40 at checkout. Just tried the same code for you this morning and it dropped the current $69.99 price down to $41.40 .

Much appreciated brotha

..Im lookin for a regular use VPN to keep Verizon at bay (no issues yet) and use on the road (cell, tablet while travelling)..so Im making a commitment. Never thought about how they may effect speed Ill have to do some more research on that. But thanks again for the promo code and link Im strongly considering Windscribe, esp given the access to support etc.

Was doing lot of research but kept seeing vpn vs Netflix conflicts.... anyone successfully use vpn with Netflix?

I use Turbo VPN app when out of country, some streaming apps won't work without it.

I use AirVPN. I mainly use it on a VM for torrenting.

I may look into seedboxes if it works with Sonarr & Radarr

Been using private Internet access for a hottt minute and no complaints. I run it on my phone, computers, VMs, and fire stick. Annual purchase set and forget

I am bumping this thread.

I just bought a router with VPN capabilities and will jump on board soon.

I was looking at either NordVPN or ExpressVPN.

These are the top 2.

Anyone have any info on which to chose?

I use NordVPN and haven't had any issues and it can be configured with my router.

Never tried to use VPN and Netflix.

^Believe i successfully used hotspot shield and netflix/prime several times while traveling through different countries recently.

for basic VPN just for browsing, I use Opera browser. It has a built in VPN that you can toggle on/off. Lotta people never heard of Opera. Security by obscurity. lol

I decided on windscribe.

I had expressvpn but didnt care for it.

Windscribe has the best bang for your buck.

They also have a dedicated ip for US and UK Netflix.

3 years was like $29.
