VPN = virtual private network. its a way of getting around the internet and firewalls that block shit. think of it like this. you in a trench in world war II and bullets flying everywhere (keeping you from sticking your head up to see what coming....you stick a periscope up over the wall so you can see whats happening on the battelfield without having to stick your head up there and get it shot off. the tube that the periscope is represents the VPN. the mirror shows you what you want to see without putting you in danger. the server that you connect to, actually pings the website and mirrors that info back to your computer without exposing you to bullets (the possible dangers ) . its like your own personal tunnel to whatever info you trying to get to.

oh to answer your question, when iw as overseas, i used VPNs all the time. it was the only way i could get BGOL in theater. everything else was blocked like a mofo.
I don't, never needed it. I do know dl'ing TOR is enough to get your name on a list. As someone else said above nothing is truly safe and the safest way to go about somethings on the internet ain't to be typed on the internet

i only use citrix at work and use my hackingtosh for downloads, no VPN, I've been hit by xfinity a time or two, nothing came of it.
still downloading, have not gotten a message in a while.
I grabbed a router that will allow me to enable a vpn at the router level.
