DACA versus the black struggle

At major Northwest Side bakery, labor issues pit blacks vs. Hispanics

In a nutshell the company had a policy of hiring illegals through temp agencies and not hiring qualified blacks from the surrounding communities. They did this because they could low ball the illegals and they wouldn't complain about lower wages and illegal working conditions. The blacks they did hire on where paid higher wages and the illegals took issue with it so they froze the blacks out. They did it by not communicating with them on job assignments and giving blacks the shittiest jobs causing a high turn over rate among black employees. This went all the way up to the Hispanic supervisors.

Some of the black employees got together and called ICE on the company and they did a sweep and now the company is 90% black and 10% Hispanic. The owner in turn sold the company claiming he couldn't make his obligations to his customers and now the Hispanic workers are trying to confront the black workers.

If you still think DACA and those safe haven cities that almost always seem to be in high black population areas are a good thing then you ain't paying attention. This is about resources and resources are a finite thing in this country. We can not afford to have to compete with a group of people who are willing to undercut labor laws and wage laws. A $14 an hour job to most of you may not mean a thing but to a lot of us it could mean the difference between life or death. Especially now since safety net programs are being cut everyday.

Damn.... actually paints a different side to this story. I will say tho, while I wish there were other ways to address the issue, if you KNOW you need to he documented and arent, some fir 20-30 years, that shit is on you...

Thanks

Yeah many of us are sold on some kid left behind by an illegal parent without regard to the job the parent stole. I say fuck them both. Ship the kid back with the parent if you ask me.

Lynne Lane, a union steward at Cloverhill, says there are tensions as the two groups work side by side. Lane, who is black, says it was black workers at the bakery who called a government hotline to report the Mexican workers to immigration authorities.

“It was [African American] workers in the plant that saw, you know, like I said, that had been treated unfairly and treated like secondary-class citizens” by Hispanic workers, Lane says. “So it was a whole lot of employees in the company. Well, they was given a number, as far as I know. They was given a number to call … to call Immigration.”

ICE would not say why the audit of the bakery’s workers began.

Lane started working at the Chicago bakery as a packer at the end of 2015. Now, she tracks waste in the bakery’s production of Danishes.

Black workers couldn’t communicate well with Spanish-speaking Mexican workers and supervisors, according to Lane, who blames the company for the resulting confusion.

“When I first started, and when they first put me in as a packer, I asked the question, ‘Do they speak English?’ ” she says. “And they said: ‘Everybody.’ But when I went to communicate with them, no one spoke English.”

Lane says she also felt Mexican workers got better assignments and weren’t required to work as hard as black workers.

Railing against the wrong people. Latinos are not undercutting wages, employers are. Prosecuting and heavily fining employers who hire illegals will go a long way toward solving the problem.
Meanwhile those charged with enforcing the law won't because they love cheap labor and they enjoy the added benefit of pitting one group against another. Divide and conquer always works. :hmm:

I feel you. Especially if they undercut wages. That shit wont fly, I would have snitched too. Da fuck you gonna be here illegally and still descriminate?!?!?
It's not just at that bakery. It's all over Chicago. Read that article. It talks about the lawsuits that have been filed over the years because of this and how it's rampant in that city. The crazy part is that's Obama's city so now you see why he's riding so tough for these illegals and overlooking black folks to a large degree on this issue. It's sad when you got such a large population and such a high unemployment rate and shit like this can go unaddressed by your biggest political celebrity.

Maybe Big O was getting kickbacks from some of these businesses?

Ok but that don't mean we got to support bringing in illegals or fast tracking and keeping illegal kids either. How does that help our situation? Also it seems to me we ain't unified in the first place because the illegals are using bush tactics to keep black workers frozen out. Are we suppose to over look that?

They still undermine the job pool and salary structure. Companies are fucked up but as a business owner if I can get the same for less I probably would too.....

You blame the people trying to get by and make a life for themselves and not the owners huh...

If owners were prosecuted for hiring undocumented workers this debate would be over.

You missed the part about the illegals fucking over the black employees I see. Intentionally fucking them over so other illegals can work in their place. Illegals seem to get it but some black folks don't.

And where did advocate support for bringing in illegals? But again, by bashing illegals we're treating the symptom, not the cause. The cause is employers who undercut our pay. Once again, if an employer knows he's gonna have to pay a heavy fine or worse by hiring undocumented aliens you can bet he'll stop doing so; and the natural effect of that is they won't come, if they can't get hired. Channeling Public Enemy, you can't effectively "fight the power" by fighting the victim. :hmm:

There are always assholes in any job. Supervisors favoring people they know over others is nothing new.

This whole illegal worker debate is bullshit because it could be over tomorrow if owners were jailed for hiring undocumented workers.

Based on these post either kats are latino or Niggas want to help everybody but they self. I go with the latter.
You said it all in one post. They are too busy trying to save everybody else but wouldn't give a shit about their own without a qualifier. These illegals don't give a shit about any qualifiers.

No it wouldn't, they would just find new more 'creative' ways to make money. Making money 'creatively' here is still better than the conditions they live in in their own countries.

The companies definitely need to be prosecuted, however I don't fault anyone who is presented with a cheaper way to do business and goes for it. I don't know ANYBODY who starts a business and says, 'Let me spend as much as I can to do business and make as little profit as possible doing it'! Makes no sense whatsoever...

Your whole position is very vanilla with a lot of holes in it, or either you are being purposefully obtuse... :hmm:

We are debating the hiring of undocumented workers. Thread title is illegals showing their ass not how business owners figure out ways to make money.

If owners and board members are put in jail for purposely hiring undocumented workers there would be no more illegals showing their ass. Not complicated.

Yes, I know it's Tariq but this one of the times he get's it right

You do know that more than black folks had free labor taken to build this country right ?

You do know there was a time that crakkas had moforks fighting on who was better while still the same.

Slaves and indentured servants...both were forced to work for free .

Some of you mofokrs need to read more than social media

Incidents like in Chicago is happening all over the country.

It’s happening in the American South as well. Jobs that have been held down by Black folks are being replaced with undocumented immigrants.

And it’s happening in NYC. Jobs long held by Puerto Rican’s and Dominicans are being replaced by undocumented immigrants and there is a war amongst Latinos.

And it’s happening in the Midwest with White folks.

No they're not. They're using the means they have. And the company is 90% Black. That means it worked. The employee is the one paying them. How are they supposed to "rail" against them? When they did do that for more money , the company went and used illegals , so they took the next step.

You can't "divide and conquer" something that was never together in the first place. How can out use that analogy with Blacks and Hispanics? What alliance was there that even existed in the first place.

This is the ugly grip of WHITE SUPREMACY.

Different racial groups fighting to survive because of a white supremacist power structure.

Fourteen dollars an hour for working as an unskilled laborer in a bakery? If I owned the company I would be trying to lower my labor costs too.

This is a very precarious situation.

On one hand you have DACA and any reasonable person does not want to break up families. Regardless of what the situation is, (because getting that green card is expensive), you don't want to break up the kids from the parents.

Then on the other hand, you're like, "if the companies are going to hire PEOPLE, hire with justification".

I'm not saying don't hire illegals or Latinos, but be justified. The company was obviously using their platform, i. e. paychecks and assignments, to discriminate. What made this situation bad is that the non-English speaking workers aware of this imbalance, decided to help keep the gap open with their actions. The Black workers at this point felt they were up a wall. If all the workers were able to work together, they probably would have went against the company.

We as a people are going to have to get into the habit that having one job is not the makings of our lives. Not anymore. #teamhustlegang

Wasn't addressing any one instance in particular. I was speaking about the gulf between Latino and black that exists generally. And as far as an alliance goes, there is none primarily due to the powers that be pitting one against the other to the detriment of both. Imagine what could be if all people of color united against the real enemy. :hmm:

So we just sit back and let them fight amongst themselves.

These illegals ain't on some "team black and brown unity" shit. They on some "team get it how we live it". The only ones still believing in this dumb shit is us and we are losing because of it. The world is changing and the work force is changing so we got to circle the wagons too.
