Official BGOL Crypto Currency Thread ★★★★★

If this trend continues, then these downward spirals shouldn't be a big deal in grand scheme of things.

Damn tell us more. How much you paid setting this rig up, cost to operate, what are you mining, how many months to get ROI.

Running (7) 1060 GTX GPU's with simpleminer setup on SMOS (Linux), mining Zcash. ROI 4-6mos depending on the market. I lucked up on the cards, most were around $300 but GPU prices have skyrocketed so this is it for me for a while. You can do a search on prices to see what's up...

Also, there are other mining options to run...CPU or HDD mining is viable if you have the patience. Especially with the depressed values right now.

dope and thanks for the info. was thinking about investing in an asic rig but it seem there is only a small window of time to get ROI. was considering letting it run in someone dorm room to avoid the spike in power bill

This bloodbath lines up perfectly with the SEC/congress fuckery next week. "Joe average' is getting crushed right now. They'll ramble on about 'protecting' citizens from getting destroyed, money laundering, and terrorism. More FUD.

Market needs to bounce back before MSM talks about those hearings. Big boys don't need to push 'joe average' out just yet.
What's "FUD"?

Imo you really shouldn’t be using a credit card to invest in crypto.
Why not?

It's what they have been doing for years... using our money to make them a return.

What better to run up debt buying than crypto?
A car? Depreciated
Vacation? Not an investment
A boat? Money pit on water
A house? Slow, long ball, and has other factors

I'm just saying..... fuck em and their credit system

Spill beans on this! What are we looking at and how you got it set up?
Investment in $?
Upkeep?
Profits?

My boy schooled me on it and helped getting me up and running. It's not rocket science but you want to be familiar with the tech. FYI, $3100 for my rig(started with 4 GPUs and upgraded to 7 now) ROI will take 6-8mos based on the current crypto valuations. FWIW, when BTC was peaking in Nov-Dec, ROI would have been in 3-4mos. I provided links on calculating the profitability in a couple posts back. Don't go into this thinking you can quit your day job, I'm figuring in the next 3-4yrs of crypto gains. Currently, it's not a good time to buy GPU's but I think that the pricing will come back down. Hope that helps..

From everything I've read, the only thing that really matters is your video card. You have to have one that is fairly powerful in order to make the mining process worth it. If not, you will be mining so little that it will cost you more in ur energy bill than it will in actual crypto you mine and recieve.

@Mrfreddygoodbud

We talked about this for awhile now. Check this shit out. Shit is really going down man. No fucking capital gains tax once there. Fucking ZERO.:eek::eek: :money:

Making a Crypto Utopia in Puerto Rico

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/02/technology/cryptocurrency-puerto-rico.html

SAN JUAN, P.R. — They call what they are building Puertopia. But then someone told them, apparently in all seriousness, that it translates to “eternal boy playground” in Latin. So they are changing the name: They will call it Sol.

Dozens of entrepreneurs, made newly wealthy byblockchain and cryptocurrencies, are heading en masse to Puerto Rico this winter. They are selling their homes and cars in California and establishing residency on the Caribbean island in hopes of avoiding what they see as onerous state and federal taxes on their growing fortunes, some of which now reach into the billions of dollars.

And these men — because they are almost exclusively men — have a plan for what to do with the wealth: They want to build a crypto utopia, a new city where the money is virtual and the contracts are all public, to show the rest of the world what a crypto future could look like. Blockchain, a digital ledger that forms the basis of virtual currencies, has the potential to reinvent society — and the Puertopians want to prove it.

For more than a year, the entrepreneurs had been searching for the best location. AfterHurricane Maria decimated Puerto Rico’s infrastructurein September andthe price of cryptocurrencies began to soar, they saw an opportunity and felt a sense of urgency.

So this crypto community flocked here to create its paradise. Now the investors are spending their days hunting for property where they could have their own airports and docks. They are taking over hotels and a museum in the capital’s historic section, called Old San Juan. They say they are close to getting the local government to allow them to have the first cryptocurrency bank.

“What’s happened here is a perfect storm,” saidHalsey Minor, the founder of the news site CNET, who is moving his new blockchain company — called Videocoin — from the Cayman Islands to Puerto Rico this winter. Referring to Hurricane Maria and the investment interest that has followed, he added, “While it was really bad for the people of Puerto Rico, in the long term it’s a godsend if people look past that.”

Continue reading the main storyPuerto Crypto, in March.

The territory’s go-to blockchain tax lawyer is Giovanni Mendez, 30(WE MIGHT NEED TO REMEMBER THIS NAME ). He expected the tax expatriates to disappear after Hurricane Maria, but the population has instead boomed.

“It’s increased monumentally,” said Mr. Mendez, who has about two dozen crypto clients. “And they all came together.”

The movement is alarming an earlier generation of Puerto Rico tax expats like the hedge fund manager Robb Rill, who runs a social group for those taking advantage of the tax incentives.

“They call me up saying they’re going to buy 250,000 acres so they can incorporate their own city, literally start a city in Puerto Rico to have their own crypto world,” said Mr. Rill, who moved to the island in 2013. “I can’t engage in that.”

The newcomers are still debating the exact shape that Puertopia should take. Some think they need to make a city; others think it’s enough to move into Old San Juan. Puertopians said, however, that they hoped to move very fast.

“You’ve never seen an industry catalyze a place like you’re going to see here,” Mr. Minor said.
