Star Wars The Last Jedi (SPOILER Discussion thread)

He wasn't the second most powerful in terms of force mastery. His mastery of Vaapad (a modified 7th form of lightsaber combat) put him on par with Yoda, Dooku, Anakin and Palpatine as lightsaber duelists. His gift of shatterpoints was his greatest weapon and also his undoing (against Sidious).

True but I’m really trying this not add outside direct film knowledge to this discussion because Kats keep talking about "why do i need to go outside the films to know this stuff"... even though the entire history of Star Wars is about going outside of the films.

yeah .. but i thought using bombers in space was kinda wack too, i was like  well that makes no sense LOL

I got no problems... if you also had issues with using Bombers in Space in Empire.

But a Lot of Scific space movies have used bombers in Space.

In fact in one point... this was actually a Soviet plan in the 60s.. to look into dropping Bombs from outer space. It was called the Fractional Orbital Bombardment System.

The filmmakers discuss Captain Phasma
http://ew.com/movies/2017/12/17/star-wars-last-jedi-spoilers-captain-phasma-killed-survive/2/

As far as we know, Phasma is no more. But at the post-screening Q&A for The Last Jedi, writer-director Rian Johnson left room for a possible return.

“Phasma is the Kenny from South Park of this series,” he joked.

Among those rooting for her return is Luke Skywalker himself. “I think she’s got to survive,” Mark Hamill said, offering up his own theory. “She falls through the flames and lands on a big pile of rubbish.”

Another person who has a secret idea for how Phasma could come back is the actress herself. “Gwendoline has it all figured out how she wants to come back,” said costume designer Michael Kaplan.

“No one’s ever really gone,” Hamill added, repeating one of Luke’s lines from the film.

Yeah the way I saw it.. there is definitely room for Phasma to come back.

Rule 1: If you don't see a body they can come back.

i get that.. dropping bombs on a planet from space yes...dropping bombs on another ship where there's no gravity... makes no sense. and i get the whole suspension on belief thing but.. come on.

There doesn't have to be gravity. There could be a cylinder that pushes down out at the top of the bomb assembly or the bombs could be be magnetic and be repelled by a larger electromagnet that's activated when she pressed the button on the hand held device. There's nothing in space to stop their forward (downward) motion once started.

Naw I completely get it.... but it's star wars. They have Force ghosts setting shit on Fire...

Dropping Bombs from Space is the least confusing thing.

THis is exactly what I think the Bombs were doing... Good Point.

Clarification:
I shouldn't have said novels. I meant the official novelizations for the films. I wish they included that little quip the Emperor made about Yoda in the throne room in RoTJ.

=====

The Emperor tapped his fingers on the arm of the throne, recalling. “There was one called … Yoda. An aged Master Jed … Ah, I see by your countenance I have hit a chord, a resonant chord indeed. Yoda, then.”
Luke flashed with anger at himself, now, to have revealed so much, unwillingly, unwittingly. Anger and self-doubt. He strove to calm himself—to see all, to show nothing; only to be.
“This Yoda,” the Emperor mused. “Lives he still?”
Luke focused on the emptiness of space beyond the window behind the Emperor’s chair. The deep void, where nothing was. Nothing. He filled his mind with this black nothing. Opaque, save for the occasional flickering of starlight that filtered through the ether.
“Ah,” cried Emperor Palpatine. “He lives not. Very good, young Skywalker, you almost hid this from me. But you could not. And you can not. Your deepest flickerings are to me apparent. Your nakedest soul. That is my first lesson to you.” He beamed.

The tie bomber works the way you just described, the bombs the resistance was dropping Appeared to be free fall bombs (no propulsion or magnetic system)

Doesn't make me no nevermind I'm enjoying the discussion

all matter generates gravity... so in reality those massive vessels would each create their own gravity wells...
but Stars Wars never ever used physics

OK - in Star Wars -EVERY FUCKING ship IN EVERY MOVIE no matter the size generated some form of artificial gravity toward the "floor" or bottom ...

geez- the wrong sister fell at least 20' in the bomb bay!

So even using your POV of what physics is:
The bombs start falling in the ship toward the floor - they will lose no inertia when they enter the vacuum / space

In a vacuum the bombs will keep moving at the same speed and direction the ship was moving in- while keeping whatever acceleration gained from "falling" in the ship
they will continue to travel "forward" and away from the ship in a "downward" direction

doesn't matter if they are unpowered
they will still continue to move forward at the speed of the bomber and with any acceleration away from the ship provided from the bomber's artificial gravity

That Angry Joe video was on point. Pretty much how I felt. And it brought new things to my attention like Finn's jacket. I want to see if they ever showed the back of it.

Good lord man... did you not watch the Prequels?

Mace Windo was black and was the second most powerful Jedi.

I know about Mace Windu. He's the Black Jedi I'm referring to. My question is, are there any OTHERS?

I've never seen the animated series so maybe there..? Don't know, so I'm asking...

Maybe that is why the Admiral Holdo chick was upset for listening to Poe's apparent plan to use the bombers.
It was a risk they didn't agree on doing.

A Major ‘Last Jedi’ Plot Point Was a ‘Rogue One’ Easter Egg

In Star Wars: The Last Jedi, General Leia and the Resistance are in peril thanks to some shocking new First Order technology. The bad guys’ newfound capabilities put the Resistance in a really dire position, but the development seems to have conveniently come out of nowhere for the sake of the plot. That’s not exactly true, as it turns out, as there’s a moment in last year’s Rogue One that sets-up The Last Jedi in one sentence.

This post contains spoilers for The Last Jedi and, uh, also Rogue One.

The Last Jedi opens up with Leia and the Resistance making a quick exit from the base they operated out of in The Force Awakens, because the First Order is headed after them to avenge Starkiller Base and wipe out their hated foe once and for all. The evacuation works, and the good guy ships all make the jump to hyperspace. Normally, this is a perfect exit, as when Star Wars ships travel that far, that fast, enemy ships can’t track or predict where they’re going to end up. However, in The Last Jedi, the First Order pops out of hyperspace right after the Resistance does, as they were somehow able to track their fleeing prey through hyperspace.

This is supposed to be impossible, but the Empire was working on it for a while, it turns out.

In Rogue One, when Jyn Erso is looking for plans to the Death Star on the Empire’s massive database on Scarif, she mentions a few other top-secret developments the Empire’s scientists and engineers are working on. Among them? Hyperspace tracking.

olaulttxdj401png.png

Apparently, the Empire had a backup of that file Jyn mentioned, since the nascent technology survived the planet’s obliteration via Death Star at the end of the movie.

Lucasfilm executive Pablo Hidalgo confirmed on Twitter that the Rogue Onemoment was connected to the First Order’s hyperspace tracking tech in The Last Jedi, and shared some additional background. Apparently, hyperspace tracking originated in the Empire’s secret think tank known as the Tarkin Initiative, so named for the intimidating Grand Moff Tarkin. General Hux’s engineers perfected the system, giving them a technology that leaves the Resistance with nowhere to run.

For what it’s worth, though, the Resistance was able to develop a pretty effective countermeasure. Hyperspace tracking is really pointless when you’ve got a massive spaceship making the jump to hyperspace in your direction at point blank range.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is now in theaters.

I know about Mace Windu. He's the Black Jedi I'm referring to. My question is, are there any OTHERS?

I've never seen the animated series so maybe there..? Don't know, so I'm asking...

Black human with a name? No. He's the only one.
Black people playing other humanoid species with names? Yes.

Unnamed black human Jedi in background over the left shoulder of Plo Koon when Palpatine arrives on Naboo at the end of TPM
Luminara Unduli (original actor - corpse later used to lure Jedi who escaped Order 66 in Rebels cartoon)
Adi Gallia (killed by Savage Oppress in the Clone Wars cartoon)
Stass Allie (killed during Order 66)
Agen Kolar (first Jedi killed by Palpatine in his office) (depends on how "black" you consider him since his mother is a white Australian and his father is Nigerian)

Windu, was a Korun, genetically Human with a caveat . . . all members of the Korun were force sensitive.

I used to think Quinlan Vos was black. His description and skin tone would always be different depending on who was writing or drawing the story. But i think hes more Native American like.

This sums everything up perfectly...

That look on Luke's face after getting some of that titty milk. I cannot wait for that gif to hit the nets.

:roflmao::roflmao2::roflmao3:

And couldn't Luke just have used the force to lift the fish out of the water? I mean if yoda can lift an x-wing fighter...luke can lift a fish right?

:hmm:

It’s like we watched a different movie with these comments.

I realized that most people don't pay attention to movies they are watching - you can see it from online comments to just sitting in a living room and watching a TV show with folks, who's that? What are they doing? why did he take the thing? I am talking about people who have been sitting and watching the show from the same point as you but shit just seem to elude them.

And I see it happening more and more at the movies, people openly asking What's going on to either a person they came with or just random people...

My sis in law is like that, that’s why her and my bro end up watchin shit over and over. Then they always fall asleep

I gave up explainin shit to them.

I really don't like the director's answer about Rey's parents.
"That’s what Kylo sees and that’s what he tells her and I think he’s not lying in that moment. That’s what he saw and she seems to believe it when she hears it. I don’t want to … I’m not writing the next film, we’ll see how they handle it going forward, and as we all know in these movies, there’s always a certain point of view that’s involved."
Meaning if JJ wants to change shit he can. Is there not a master plan for this trilogy?

Damn Shit made 20 million on Monday and 20 million on Tuesday. At its present rate... it’s going to make another 100 million before it’s Saturday.

But...

That’s a big 20 million daily domestic drop from the daily trackings of the force awakens.

So at its present rate... it’s going to easily clear a billion but it’s going to fall far short of The Awakens. My estimate is that it is going to cap out at about 600 to 700 million domestic and still probably a billion world wide. China is going to clean up on the film. Even though some Americans might be turned off by it.... Star Wars is still fairly new to Chinese audiences and this movie has Asian inspired enfluences all over it.

Skip to 4 minute mark to avoid Kevin's rambling.

:lol:at his phrase 'FUCK you JJ moments'

Ok . What's the next mark between minute 4 and 1 hour and 30 minutes?

I have not and may not finish that.

My takes on Episodes
1
2
3 - Ultimate dark power was brought up in Anakin - Darth Vader

4
5
6 - Potentially the best Jedi fighter ( only because his father was the Ultimate dark power, there were MANY better Jedis)

7
8
9 - ???

They could go with the prequel and bring up ultimate Kylo or go with bringing up ultimate Rey. Either way, Snoke was not needed just like the Emperor was already
an unknown but ultimate force in 456. The Emperor was not explained in the movies until 123.

When Kevin got to the part about Luke and Yoda's interaction, I had to go back and watch that scene again

Interesting spoiler line Yoda dropped.

After he set fire to the tree and Luke was bitching Yoda says: 'that library contains nothing that the girl rey does not already possess!!!'

At its core this was a delicious movie of irony, twist on established norms and a Retcon that, even tho I love the classic trilogy, was very much needed for the story to continue.

Nuther nice pick up on the re-watch the throne room battle with rey and Kylo back to back was very reminiscent of the Netflix marvel DD, LUKE CAGE, Defenders classic hallway fight scenes.

Also making krayt a salt planet with the red salt under the snow was another nice plot device.

We see people walking leaving the red foot print, we see that Kylo posturing sliding his feet leaving a red smear... And Luke doesn't leave a print...

It's shit like that leaves me

I thought the red salt was being weaponized and going to be something that melted the ice to keep the AT-ATs at bay.
Why were they dumping more red salt in front of the enemy instead of fighting?

I don't mean to sound condescending, and maybe I'm jaded from too many movies (& I am also a Christopher Nolan fan), but I wasn't really impressed with those clues/connections.

The salted red sand wasn't unique to me cause it seemed to just rehash tESB, except now with sand. If its sole purpose was to be able to forshadow that Luke was a hologram, that's cool. But I didnt think that was revolutionary. Maybe I'm blinded because I hated The Last Jedi.
