When NBA players play regular people

Jalen Rose once said the difference between him, an NBA level player and the BEST non player is that the he knows EVERYTHING the nonplayer will do BEFORE he decides to even try it. and Rose will already know how to beat it.
The same thing Doc Rivers told me. Cats have NO clue just how good these guys and pro golfers are.

I was just talking to one of my old friends from college and he was telling me about the time he played against some random cat who was a D-League journeyman. (I can't recall the name) Mind you, my homebody played varsity, and in the SWAC for four seasons. He said this the GULF in talent was scary.

He mentioned that the D-League guy was so much physically stronger, faster, and had an other worldly basketball IQ compared to the "regular" hoopers that were running. And just like a few people mentioned above. My boy said that the D-League guy snuffed out every single move he tried to make. He said he knew after the first two possessions that he didn't have a chance.
Remember, this was a D-League player who couldn't even make an NBA roster.

I find it interesting that people think that it can be any other way. These cats play basketball EVERY DAY. That's all they do. When you go to work, they go to work but their entire job is to play basketball. Their entire job is to make sure that they eat right and lift weights and get rest and play basketball EVERY single day against the best players on the planet. It would be MORE shocking if they weren't as good as they are. They eat, breathe, sleep their sport.

Now I'm not comparing myself to Chipper Jones
I've been in that zone before though. You can literally see the stitches on the ball as it comes to you
I don't doubt it. On the field, there were times where I knew what the safety was going to do before he did. Keep in mind, I'm playing against guys on my level that I was slightly better than. NFL level is another whole bag of cats.

Man this dudes game was so damn effortless. Thats the best way i could describe it. Dude was out there bullshitting and would be far and away the best of the floor. Dude wasnt even on some ballhog shit, he was setting other people up. He wasnt a shooter, but had the best J. A good 6'3" didnt play above the rim, but could dunk with 1 step. That shit was crazy because I had a good J... For normal people and I would see him drain 5-7 NBA 3s in a row like they were free throws. I would be lucky to 2 or 3 in a row. So for me to think there are players in the NBA right now that would make him look like he was garbage blows my mind. Naaaa man. NBA players on another planet.

I played against CP3 in AAU and Amari at a summer basketball camp. Both them game my squad work.

That one year of college basketball ended my hoop dreams.

I miss that shit though. Always wonder how good I could have got. I didn't grow enough though. Topped out at 6'2.

I have an athletic family. Both my mom and dad played D1 sports, so it would have been a disappointment if I didn't, even though they didn't push that. I got collegiate football players, a few NFL cousins, and two boxers, with one that made it pro. I was the only Hooper beside my dad, but his sport was football.

All in all, they tried to prepare me for the next level, by stating that it's a whole other can of worms when you play with the pros.

I had a step brother who made played over seas and in the D-league, playing in the NBA summer leagues and pre-season, and I watched him in college shit on folks. I watched him struggle on the next level.

He was strong, had hops, fast, and could play D. He worked on his handles but was always a streaky shooter.

It just takes one thing to set you a part from the rest, in both good and bad ways.

On the next level you have to be able to put it all together, simple as that maybe, it's the hardest thing to actually execute...

Its amazing to know that Steph is shooting these just like he would blink his eyes. Its second nature. He isn't even trying.

you have to remember there was once a contingency of niggas here who stated they could easily tackle adrian peterson (in his prime) on an open field
shit most nigs couldn't tackle ron artest let alone adrian... i been around ron artest a few times and been around him during a few pick up games and tournaments/charity events...lets juss say i seen that nig gun it up and down the court many times and i swear this nig will run by and u'll get a wind current from how fast he be going

I played pickup with (literally) the 12th man on OKC at the time - Royal Ivey. Yes he was better than everyone in the gym, hitting shots from a few feet inside the half court line (granted - it was a JHS gym).

He wasn't going hard at ALL - I think he only shot 3s, and played minimal D.

Still didn't totally dominate like I thought a pro would - maybe thats why he was playing on 10 day contracts a few weeks later? :dunno:

alot of cats in our community grew up with hoop dreams and base their pride off of what they can do on the court.
thats why niggas always want to fight during pickup games and regular joes say they can handle a NBA player

That dude is also strong as shit...and crazy as hell!

His son is going to be a problem. Look like fucking Artest cloned himself. Crazy to see those two play together in leagues and shit...

dumbest shit i ever heard a nig say was back in highschool...when mj came back to the league some nig was like mj old if i played mj in a full court game 1 on 1 he couldn't keep up with me and i kno i can beat him

everybody looked at this nig likeo_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_O

i was like so you can beat mj but you can't even make it to the varsity team:hmm:

everybody was like:giggle::giggle::giggle::giggle::giggle:

On a slightly related note, I got to hang out with Bill Dickens (The Buddha of Bass) when he was doing clinics for the Peavey Cirrus bass. I watched him warming up and was like :eek2:. When I got home, I asked my wife what would be a fair price to ask for my basses. Shit, after watching Larry Graham solo at a Graham Central Station concert, I actually listed my basses for 2 days, before my mentor hit me with a :hmm:. I had been playing for about 7 months at the time.

you were shamed into quitting?

:roflmao:

My wife ran the equivalent of high school track while growing up in GUYANA and did a little bit of it in college. One day while we were dating I was talking some shit about race me race me and I guess she had enough of my bullshit.

SHE SMOKED ME WITH EASE.

CP3 is 6 at best

His skill set as a point guard was supreme.

His ball handling and quickness was way above average, but he was just out smarted everyone on the court.

I played 4 or 5 position in high school. When I got to college I had to adjust to the 2/3. I was a very streaky shooter and below average ball handling skills for the 2 position.

The only advantage I had I was was a skilled player in the paint so folks my height or shorter was out matched, but the height of college basketball had me adjust my game.

And it wasn't to the point I felt I like I going to be an effective pro-ball player. Defense is where I excelled though, but when I was introduced to D-1 speed of guards :itsawrap: I couldn't hang with that quickness and speed.
