When NBA players play regular people

JAKE SHUTTLEWORTH PLAYS 1 ON 1 WITH HIS SON, JESUS, FOR HIS FREEDOM.

Trivia: Jake was scripted to lose in a shutout to his son. But during the shoot Denzel (a decent basketball himself) didn't want to lose that badly so it was decided that he would play Ray Allen for real and (as long as he lost) the score would be whatever it was. In short...they were playing for real in this scene.

Denzel played D1 ball so his pride kicked in.

Do I think I can beat a world class athlete that has trained most of their life and completes against other world class professional athletes that and just happens to be a woman?

Sorry I’m realistic, I’d lose.

Just playing devil's advocate.. To counter, compare some of the fastest 100 meter high school boys times to the fastest women's 100 meters time and you'll be shocked at the results. And we know, these are the best women athletes in history.

That’s not really a fair “Devil’s Advocate”, you’re comparing the “Fastest” of Times for the non-professional.

An elite 5 star high school boys basketball senior probably could beat an WNBA player in a game or two. He’s a high level trained athlete also, comparing him vs a regular basketball player is different.

Most people in life are 5 star talent so they’d lose to the professional athlete.

This is stupid to say, but I alway felt a Kyrie and Steph didn't look like pro ballers. I know they're well above average male height, but they look like regular dudes. Most ball players look like they should be better than you. Even some of the smaller guys look like great athletes. Yet both, in ways, have pushed the limits of certain skills. Not just nice as fuck, but literally pushing boundaries, and excelling against guys who are bigger, faster, and stronger,

I think it's fair. There's 5 star athletes who've never made their respective leagues so in essence they aren't professionals. Look at a guy like Theo Pinson would probably won't make the league but was a five star athlete.

Not to deviate from my original question, your saying their's no way a non professional male athlete (in his prime) can beat a WNBA player at his same height?

Real question. In your basketball prime, do you think you could beat a WNBA player who matched you height wise?

Yes.

Female ballers are very skilled, but not many match the athleticism and strength of males.

I played above the rim, but some of the sistas I balled with at WSSU were nasty with their handles. But none could jump higher than me.

Athleticism wins against pure skills most of the time.

You’re right, that’s part of their appeal.

Imagine seeing and playing against the Cavs IT. He’s about 5’7, doesn’t look like much but is stronger, faster than most and can dunk. He really doesn’t look like a baller.

Hey, that's a honest answer.

Candace Parker vs a guy

Nah I definitely believe a non-professional male athlete in his prime could be a WNBA player, it depends on the non-professional athlete you’re talking about.

Are you talking about a “Regular” basketball player or someone who had “Pro-Talent” but just didn’t make it?

I’m talking about “Regular” ballers.

You know what? To me, IT looks athletic despite his height.

What I'm saying is, alpha athletes tend to look like alpha athletes, not oversized, baby-faced, punks. Lol.

I know this is about men vs women but Steve Nash and Chris Paul aren’t the most athletic players but...

Nah I got you, if you didn’t know IT you wouldn’t think much of him on the court.

Neither did most NBA teams which is why he was picked last.

Ok let's say regular is able to make a high school team but not college level

They are very skilled players with match up flaws depending on who they play against. I remember Billups giving CP3 work on plenty of nights and he isn't athletic either, but very strong.

Nash was greatly offensively but he could stop anyone.

Tony Parker had troubles with dynamic guards. None of the trivializes their skills though. Their skills are craft to make them successful based on their abilities.

Bron is not a great shooter because he never had to be. But his size and athleticism is matched by very few.

All I saying this that skills can get you wins (aka Steph), but their is a athletic dynamic that men have tends to supersede skills at times.

IT look like an athlete, IMO - just not an All-star in the NBA.

Not knowing anything about them, I wouldnt think much of picking Kyrie or Steph in a pickup game as opposed to D.Rose or Westbrrook. Them niggas look like what they are.

I pointed those two out because they play against much more athletic players every game but their skill level outmatches the athleticism.

You’re right though, athleticism does supersede skills at times.

If we’re at a “Pickup” game, I’m Probably picking the 6’3 guy before the 5’6/5’7 guy.

Depends on how tall they are tho lol

Like if they are 6’5 that might be valid

I don't know.

I know quite a few 6'5 a 6'6 niggas, who were good, but clearly weren't Nba material.

Shit I saw 6'10 Joe Wolf, who was a scrub in the NBA..

...make some D1 and D2 niggas look like disciples and he was white Jesus. Lol... No lie, I saw him make a nigga fall and split his shorts.

Even if there are only 10k ballers in the world over 6'5, the Nba still only got 450 total players. Some of them niggas have long careers.

But what I’m saying is dude I quoted said that the average person playing pickup thinks the only thing keeping them from the league is 6 inches in height. I’m like if they are 6’5 they might be right cuz at 6’11 you are at least getting a look in the league or balling overseas for sure off height alone. Don’t be reasonably coordinated you will at least be on someone’s bench somewhere

Oooooh, I misread.

I thought you meant the average nigga getting six more inches, making them about 6'5 or slightly less.

Yeah. I can agree.

If that's true, goes to show how fucking good Denzel's acting chops are. He not only was playing a real game, he was staying in character! Fucking amazing.
