WOW... Any student of film would flip out to hear this. As a little bad ass kid in the projects, I used to watch it on cable just because it looked so pretty but when I got older I really peeped what it was about, I felt smarter afterwards. I actually sat down in a class of nerdy white dudes and argued merit points about if Ford was a real person or a replicant. Them cats was shocked.

For the kids and geeks Star Wars was lord but for the grown ups, Blade Runner was the gold standard for mature sci-fi. This film is a cousin to Alien. The mother of Akira. The father of Ghost in the Shell. The grandfather of The Matrix. On a Sunday afternoon, crank up the surround sound and enjoy it.

Fam - there are two different versions of the film. One with a voice over by Deckard and the other without. Remember when Buzz Lightyear thought he was real? That was based off this flick.

Neither film makes it clear but any reference to a Unicorn is a clue. Ridley Scott has a thing about Unicorns from way back since the flick Legend. The unicorn in this flick is used in implanted dreams/ memories that the replicants have. Some of the replicants have been in place for years and they have no idea that they are NOT human. The chick Rachael is like that. I think Deckard is too and there is an ugly cruelty of living that lie without even knowing.

The irony of a slave that don't even know he is a slave hunting down and killing other slaves like himself without care. That shit hit home.

The lieutenant knows Deckard is a replicant. I'm not sure if Rachael knows he is too. Roy Batty knows he is too and that's why he didn't kill him - he exhibited free will by letting Deckard live and continue to live on as a human being.

Future folks think the replicants are not human or are incapable of free will just like they thought about black people as slaves and its like a white nigga looking in the mirror and not knowing that he is really black like the rest of us. AND he been helping them to kill us off. Shit was deep.

The test, the Voight-Kampff was deep. We don't know exactly what it did, it was a red door, a glowing box, the golden key. It was sposed to be an empathy test like a lie detector for replicants. In real life people take the test and fail that shit.

The pupils were just a mechanical hint. It shows light as if they are pure at heart.

Don't know who Jared Leto is but he is fully sentient and realized. He looks like a replicant. Maybe with a God complex.

The fact that he has seen more and experienced more in a short time, like the eyes of a child and has appreciated and absorbed SO MUCH of life in the span of a few years is what drove them crazy and deftly afraid of dying.

Anybody in that situation might do the crazy shit he did to try to live. Moreover there was a beauty to everything, from the vastness of space travel and other worlds to the soft wings of a white bird in the dark city they dwelled in. ALL of it was so precious and now like a simple machine or life cut short unfairly - it's over. Gone. Forever.

Deckard just sat there and rolled his eyes. The guilt that he felt then would weight on his life forever after that moment. Roy was more of a man and lived more of a life than most human beings will ever realize.

Blade Runner Is Getting A Short Anime From Cowboy Bebop's Director

Shinichiro Watanabe of Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo fame is directing a short Blade Runner anime. Sony Pictures Japan has uploaded a sneak peek of the short.

The short anime is called Blade Runner Black Out 2022. It’s takes place a few years after the first movie and, according to NetLab, is set during a power outage.


“The work that has influenced me the most in my anime profession would be, of course, Blade Runner,” Watanabe says in the teaser clip, which shows test animation, concept art, and a few seconds of animation. He adds that in making this short, he’s keeping two things in mind: paying maximum respect to the original Blade Runner and trying not to create an imitation.
