Lonzo Ball summer league debut against the Clippers- 5 points: was he oversold?

Besides his shooting he played a decent game.

He is going to have to hit the weights and get stronger because he is light.

He also got to get in better shape, he was walking the ball up the court far too much.

The kid will be fine.

Yep he does need a tad more bulk strength. Mind you he's coming off of that hamstring issue too. Still looks quick regardless. He was rusty and timing is the big issue too.

I mean his pops antics aside... It looked like a dude that hadn't balled in awhile playing ball with an off J... But he kept shooting, which to me may signal he's got more Kobe in him than Magic. That's what got my interest.

He got some growth in him. He lucky he with a team that will give him time to work on his game and get better. I don't have a comparison for him yet. Very skilled player, but not particular great at anything except passing.

I still believe he's gonna be a star in this league but I do think for the purposes of this game and what it was, he was definitely oversold.

How da fuk did his dad let him develop that shot. A right hander shooting from the left side.
Him and LaMelo have weird releases but they go in. The middle son is the only on with a somewhat normal release. Once he gets stronger and adjusts to the pace and feel of the game he will be fine.

This was only his first game. Reggie Miller had one of the ugliest releases ever and look how that worked out for him.

Oh no doubt. Wasn't making a direct comparison. I was just saying he may not be as pass first as the scouts are saying. I only watched like 5 or 6 of his games. I don't know what he is other than skilled like you said. Could be Penny, could be Kendall Gill...:dunno:

He might be a better sidekick than a star. That would make more sense for him and his game as I see it now.

I don't see him being good as Steph or putting up point like KD (we seen what they did in college). I do see him having a solid stat line during his career though. A facilitator of the game, but having a star carry the scoring load.

Everything about dude's game is going to get criticized. Believe that. Every shot he takes, every pass he makes to every defensive possession he has.

He better get use to it.

There are plenty of other things they look for in these games besides lighting it up. One exhibition. Who cares.

If I already had a contract with the lakers, endorsements, fame and whatever else, why would I risk blowing a knee out or some shit over play-play? Fugg dat! Them games don't count. Let them other cats dive for loose balls and thirst ankles. Still smell like knew money in the Ball house!

WTF?

That dont make no sense.

Yeah, you're right. Who couldn't forget Rick Barry, one of the best free throw shooters in nba history with that grandma underhand shot. I seen him in person do that shot plenty of times when he was with the nets. I think he could have made it with his eyes close.

I see him as a star more than anything else IF he can translate his entire skillset to the NBA game. Similar to Ben Simmons. The way they play the game is rare in todays game with their combination of skills.

Lonzo is a pass first player. He was drafted to give you 30 pts a night. He was playing with a bunch of bums who will be valet parking cars in 2 weeks.

It was just Ball and Ingram out there.

Lonzo needs some steak, potatoes and piles of weights.

Why is this the case with him more than any other draftee tho?

Father open the door to it all. He is hyped to be a particular super star in the league. Compared to great players. His ass is going to be toasted on the regular when he doesn't perform.

When your father hawking those wolf tickets all year to the media about how great his son is going to be, they gon' be on that ass every game.

No other player from this draft class is going to be under the scope like Lonzo.

Nah man, sorry but thats no reason to jack up 11 3s. At some point if the outside shot aint falling, find another way to score or be useful. Mid range, drives, whatever.

Lonzo is average as fuck, bruh. And that's ok. He'll get better over time, but I don't see the stardom yet.

he ain't shooting like Steph, scoring like KD or dominating games like Bron coming out of UCLA. He's not a great defender and semi athletic.

He average as hell and if any of us so called basketball enthusiast (analyst, experts) would have hype Lonzo up the way his father do, kats would have been all on your neck.

He ain't all that. He will get better though. How much is still to be determined.

Jumper was straight broke. First game or not the rim is still 10 feet high, three point line hasn't changed in decades. As long as his form stay the same he will always struggle.

never seen a summer where people were this damn interested in a summer league game.
mufuckas even sold out of tickets for the Lakers vs Celtics summer league game.
cant be that serious.
dont expect these rooks to post triple doubles during SL. they are all in a learning stage now.
developing to the flow of the NBA game.....learning the plays.....and playing against players of equal talent.
it aint gonna be a cakewalk for none of em.

however.....this nigga has one of the ugliest shots i've ever seen.
shit is like the jumpshot version of a Chuck Hayes freethrow.

I still believe he's gonna be a star in this league but I do think for the purposes of this game and what it was, he was definitely oversold.

he was not oversold if you keep things in context.

The Ball hype came from his daddy not NBA vets and experts.

If Lavar Ball tells you he out ran a Cheetah, you know it was an old house cat.

Lavar Ball exaggerates everything.

WTF?

That dont make no sense.
NFL players get hurt in training camp, right? So once you learn to dangers of going hard or some fool going too hard in camp, the vets don't go hard in camp. Some pay the fine and miss some of the camps to stay healthy. Same applies here. Some fool trying to get a rep block your shot too hard and injure before the reals seasons start. Nah. Play well, protect yourself. Be ready for the season injury free.

1 summer league game and why the hell he taking 11 3s lol. he got that first game out the way maybe he'll be better the second game.

After you've taken like 6-7 threes and only one has fallen it's time to try something else that game. It said he was 2-15 so he only took 4 shots inside the 3 point line:furious:

First game..summer league at that. Lets not forget Kobe missed 3 straight 3's vs Utah in the playoffs as a rookie and look how he turned out. He'll be straight, the thing I liked is that he wasn't gun shy just as Kobe wasn't. He has a tons a fan support as you could tell by the "Ohh and Ahhs" of the crowd. He'll come around.

Hmm, that shot will be his downfall!! It won't take for a team long to figure out how to stop that shot!!

I liked his passing. And Stickman Ingram was in nice form. He's going to be the real star on the squad.

That's what I was interested in seeing , the passing. How he runs the offense and get everybody involved. His shot is a work in progress which is expected.

He going to to look a whole lot better when he passing to Brook Lopez and Randle on the block and running the break with Ingram, Clarkson and Nance Jr.

What was more encouraging was Ingram he looks very KDish. He looks stronger. I want to see that second year jump from him with a pass first PG.
