'Black Panther' Teaser Trailer Racks Up 89M Views in First 24 Hours (Exclusive)

Judging by the numbers, viewers are ready to take a trip to the African nation of Wakanda.

The teaser trailer for Black Panther, Marvel Studios’ upcoming movie based on the character created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, generated 89 million views in the first 24 hours of its debut.

The spot debuted Friday during the first quarter of Game 4 of the NBA Finals on ABC. It was then released on various social media platforms.

The numbers are welcome news for Marvel as it shows strong interest in the upcoming stand-alone film, which is a gutsier venture for the studio that has in many cases relied on the familiarity of its main cast of Avengers to float its stand-alone pics. Black Panther features an unprecedented predominantly black cast and no A-listers, and, his appearance in 2016's Captain America: Civil War notwithstanding, stars a character that is not largely known on the level of other superheroes.

Chadwick Boseman is playing T’Challa, aka Black Panther, the king of the fictional African nation of Wakanda who must defend his people from threats internal and external. Ryan Coogler directed the movie that is set to bow Feb. 16, 2018.

The 89 million-view figure includes the 19 millions views from those watching the NBA Finals.

While the trailer for Thor: Ragnarok is Marvel and parent company Disney’s most-watched ever (with 136 million views), Black Panther lands in the top 3 of most-watched Marvel trailer content.

Black Panther surpasses the views for teasers for top Marvel and Disney-released movies such as Captain America: Civil War (61 million), Star Wars: The Force Awakens (55 million) and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (52 million).

Black Panther was also massive on Twitter, generating 349,000 mentions in 24 hours. It generated more mentions than the NBA game during which it debuted, second only to the launch of the Star Wars: The Last Jedi teaser.

Wait, there is a Last Jedi teaser?

——————————————————————————————————————————————

FROM BAD TO WORSE….

For the whole year of 2015....Sony’s BIGGEST box-office hit was…. Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2

Domestic Gross: $71 million
Worldwide Gross: $107 million

Let that sink in. :smh:

——————————————————————————————————————————————

Ey, I know some of these properties are not going back to Marvel. X-Men, most definitely. Best we can hope for right now, (since Ghost Rider was on SHIELD), is the right to Fantastic Four eventually. But this shit here? I was up for following the Sony hack and the shit that rolled out...but this here?

Hot damn didn't ma tell you not to put all your eggs in one basket?

Fool me once....:smh:

yeap...talk about false advertisement

:fuckyousay::fuckyousay::fuckyousay::fuckyousay::fuckyousay::fuckyousay:

Ive been feeling a certain kinda way since finding out Finn wasnt a Jedi

That's the main reason, why I'm debating if I want to watch this one in theaters. The made it sound like Finn was a Jedi, but he was a fucking sidekick, who couldn't do shit

And,then had an untrained Jedi beat a person that has way more experience despite being half trained.

I enjoyed Rogue One way more than episode 7.

you make a good point.

could Marvel make a live action FANTASTIC FOUR TV series?

maybe on Netflix?

Lol we all would have sold them too.
please... speak for yourself
only a crack head would have signed that deal - which is what happened

Stan sold the rights for one time cash payment with NO franchise fees varying % on boxoffice and pennies on residuals and rights and % on merch
if a FF movie makes a billion in boxoffice - Marvel might get low 8 figures in fees - from what I read TV rights are just as bad
To paraphrase a few film execs - as long as Constantin films makes and releases a FF film every 7 or 8 years - they pretty much keep the FF rights for free

compare that to Spiderman or XMen licenses where Marvel has to be paid every year whether a movie is made or not and a fee upfront for every new project - give away no rights on merch and minor % and has a set % on boxoffice and residuals - and TV lics are locked down- where they have to get permission and pay up front for each new series

there is MUCH more to that story...and I want to know what happened to Avi Arad too.
he is still around - got pushed out for the Marvel Sony collabo
but dumb cunt Pascale is bringing him back in for the Venom, Silver Sable, Black Cat Universe slate that Sony is pushing forward

:smh::smh::smh:

but I'll say this

he was ABOUT his MONEY

and actually realized the TRUE value of these properties when EVERYONE slept.

nope...

I been reading comics since 4 years old. FIRST stock I ever purchased was like 5 shares of Marvel stock

I would NOT have sold it

and trust...

MANY MANY artists writers and creators BEGGED and PLEADED with him NOT to do it.

there is a GREAT Fatman on Batman on this from like a year back.

Thanks for the link. But what do you mean by "what happened to him"?

What you just described was that the deal was bad. Not that you wouldnt have sold rights.

You talked about all that but you didnt touch 3 things. 1, the financial situation Marvel Comics was in at the time, the financial situation Stan Lee was in personally, and 3 that Stan HAD to sell rights for ANY movie to be made because at the time Marvel wasnt owned by a movie studio.

Ok. Tell me how you would have paid the bills then. And would have bankruptcy gone over?

Ok. Tell me how you would have paid the bills then. And would have bankruptcy gone over?

It isn't a simple answer...

and we ain't doing hindsight...Stan didn't have a crystal ball.

However he didn't negotiate properly by ANY means no matter WHAT position he was in.

and to e fair? wasn't in the right FRAME of MINE to do the negotiation.

Nobody was doing deals like he signed...it just wasn't SMART, yeah he NEEDED cash (by the way that was ALSO of his own doing)

you need to go back and research how Stan and Marvel got INTO that mess and see comparable deals before you can say Stan did good.
