Kentucky's Hamidou Diallo, who signed with the Wildcats less than four months ago, is entering the NBA draft without an agent.

Diallo enrolled at Kentucky in January but didn't play in a game. He would be a redshirt freshman for the 2017-18 season.

"Playing in the NBA has always been the ultimate goal for me," Diallo said in a release. "It's part of what makes Kentucky so special is that it prepares you for the next level better than anywhere else. When I decided to enroll in school in January, my plan was to come to Kentucky to work on my game and to focus on school. At the end of the season, I knew I wanted to see where I was in the draft process and go through that so I could get a proper evaluation.

"That plan hasn't changed, and that's why I am declaring for the NBA draft. I do not plan on hiring an agent at this time. I want to see where my game is and explore my options. I just want to keep all doors open, and I want to thank Coach Cal [John Calipari], the coaching staff and my teammates for allowing me to pursue my dreams."

Diallo was a five-star recruit in the ESPN 100 for 2017, but it became clear in the fall that Diallo planned on leaving high school during winter break and enrolling in college early. When Diallo signed with Kentucky over Connecticut in January, speculation grew that Diallo could opt to leave for the NBA without ever playing a college game. Because he graduated from Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut last spring, Diallo is one year removed from his high school graduation and therefore eligible for the NBA draft.

NBA scouts watched Diallo multiple times during the early part of the high school season. He struggled in front of a couple of dozen NBA personnel at the National Prep Showcase in November, but he performed well in December at the National High School Hoops Festival. If Diallo decides to stay in this year's draft, he could go in the late first round, NBA executives told ESPN.

Diallo is the sixth Kentucky player to enter the NBA draft this spring, following guards De'Aaron Fox, Malik Monk and Isaiah Briscoe and forwards Bam Adebayo and Isaac Humphries. Of those five, Adebayo is the only one not to sign with an agent yet.

Bad move. He could of been a lottery pick next year. No one heard of him. The draft is flooded with hyped up "one and done" players this year.

going late first round >>> better than being exposed in college next year or an injury

look what happened to greyson allens stock

if you have an opportunity to go first round in nba you should always take it

2nd and below? debatable

Get the money, your seed cant eat books.... - Bunz....

Na seriously if he is wise just need to get picked up the initial check is enough to live off the rest of his life with wise counsel

When was Greyson Allen considered a future NBA star?

This is pretty much a no-lose situation. He is not signing with an agent so he can go to the combine, talk to some teams and if he doesn't like where he's going to be drafted he can go back to school with no issue. And he'll know what scouts think that he needs to improve on while at Kentucky

Always a tough call for anyone not named Lebron.

1. I've seen top high schoolers go to college and suck and loose out on going to the NBA.

2. I saw a NBA sure shot go to NC State and bust his knee.

3. Going to the NBA directly gets you that check immediately. If you bust, THEN go to college.

4. Going to college first will improve your skill and NBA rating and money.

Being that I'm not much of a gambler, I'd take door number 3.

what if he fails though, who knows if he is ready, it's been alot of players who have jump to the draft and it didn't pan out for them. atleast the one year at college he can get a good scouting.
right... he can go now and get paid
or he can wait and possibly get hurt or exposed

After that 30 for 30 fluff piece on coach K
Only an idiot wouldn't take the check

Not for nothing, the D-league pays too, and I don't see anything super special about his style of play that would make me think he's a stand out. It's just a lot of dunks and lay ups against high schoolers. It's not going to be that easy in the NBA. 2nd rounder at best that could end up in the D-league after Summer league games.

He's doing the right thing by getting the feedback, see how much money you're looking at on the table if you stay in the draft and then make the decision

What happened with Coach K?

It wasn't pretty much a propaganda piece about how going one and done with him would get you paid
And showed a player or two that had to retire after a season in the NBA for some medical issue and how if they had staid in college they wouldn't have gotten paid
