Isaiah Thomas wants a Brinks truck this offseason...

How much are they willing to pay Isaiah Thomas?
And perhaps just as important, how much will someone else be willing to pay Isaiah?
Thomas has one year left on his contract after this season, with his salary decreasing from $6,587,132- $6,261,395. Can you say “team friendly”? The Celts will be able to offer their All-Star point guard an extension, and Ainge has said he will wait until the offseason to cross that bridge.
The situation, incidentally, is the same with Avery Bradley, and some league general managers are saying his defensive abilities, coupled with an improving offensive skill set, could make him a big get if he’s allowed to become a free agent in 2018.
It will be interesting to see how much, if any, the Celtics landscape has changed by then. It’s possible the club may have pulled off a major trade by next month’s deadline, and, if not, it’s perhaps more likely they’ll have been involved in some big transaction before or at the June draft.
But assuming Thomas is still a Celtic, Ainge must decide how much of his cap he can mete out to the diminutive dynamite stick.
Thomas has mentioned the notion “back up the Brinks truck” on a number of occasions, so it’s clear he wants to get paid for his rising stock — and, on his competitive side, for others passing him as he sits with a below-market deal in the new NBA economy.
At least part of the answer to the original question here will be framed by another query.
