ComicBook Movie News: Director Tim Miller Departs From DEADPOOL 2 Due To Creative Differences

I have no problem with Reynolds doing this. He's trying to keep it true to the comic.

Now they need to pick a proper Domino.

almost all the chicks are skinny blondes, I think domino should be cast to an average to tall latina or russian actress

out of left field? Colin Ferrell

dead on? Matt Damon, Jon Hamm, Gerard Butler

old: Stephen Lang or Ron Pearlman

outliers: Sullivan Stapleton, Eric Bana

jon hamm needs a breakout movie performance...don't think he could pull off cable tho...his performance was disappointing af on the town...some actors are just better suited for TV

idk what it is about his face but I just can't stand that fucking dude...he just looks like a fucking jackoff...it's unexplainable...he's been on TV/movies for a minute but he's a lousy actor imo

I said that about Reynolds but of course some dudes here got butt hurt about it. I predict....fail

neither of them did the writer's made it a hit which ryan wasn't a member of.
it was more than likely going to stay the same and ryan more than likely wanted it way more raunchy.
sounds basically like a pissing power contest. director cast someone ryan says no. line in the sand is drawn nobody blinked director left.

You're wrong on this one. Ryan played a HUGE part in the success of that first film. 12 years of research, prep AND writing. It's his vision. THey can get another director.

Need to get Stephen Lang

he has the look...a little old tho + don't know if he has the acting chops for a character as important as cable who'll probably be appearing in a couple other subsequent films...it's gonna be a hard role to cast

Stephen is overqualified as far as acting chops to fuckin play Cable. Check out some of his other work besides Avatar. Everybody talking about he too old like he got one foot in the grave. He's the perfect age IMO. If Ian McKellen could be Magneto then Stephen could damn sure be Cable.

what are you smoking? granted, Ian Mckellan should not have been Magneto in the first place but -
Cable is an action oriented character - Magneto isn't!
person cast as Cable needs to be able to do fight choreography and gun play able to go toe to toe with Deadpool not only for Deadpool2 but further sequels and XForce movies.
Lang is too old for a series that could span 10 years

Peace,

THat's Ryan's vehicle ultimately. They gonna get somebody else and keep it moving. The only thing that would set off alarms to me is if the reason was excessive studio intervention or some shit like that. As long as Fox leaves them alone like the first one it should be fine.

Yeah but he's an actor, not a writer or director. Tim Miller played a MAJOR role in making the first film so watchable.

Deadpool 2 is obviously going to make a ton of money, but this is one of those things that makes it more likely to not be as good as the first one.

I cant argue that point...

I think because he was so damn PERFECT as Draper. ..

Much like Tony soprano and vic makey.

But Hamm in Black Mirror SNL amd last man on earth is funny aND sharp as hell...

It's all in the writing and direction for him

Inside the ‘Deadpool 2’ Fight Over ‘Two Totally Different Movies’ (Exclusive)

More details emerge about vastly different takes director and creative team had for sequel

Soaring budgets and conflicting visions about story were at the heart of the creative rift between “Deadpool” star Ryan Reynolds and Tim Miller, that led to Miller leaving the director’s chair, multiple individuals told TheWrap.

The Saturday report that Miller would no longer return to helm the blockbuster’s sequel shocked fans, with both sides citing “creative differences” between Miller and his star as a reason. But those differences were vast, TheWrap has learned, and expanded to the long-devoted group at the film’s core.

A sequel to “Deadpool” was already in active development when the first went into production, one individual familiar with the project said.

Shortly after then-20th Century Fox CEO Jim Gianopulos confirmed a second movie at CinemaCon in April, cracks began to form in the creative team that also includes screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (“Zombieland”).

In initial sequel talks, Reynolds, Reese and Wernick envisioned a “scrappy,” raunchy and inexpensive movie, the insider said — in the vein of the first, which earned over $780 million worldwide on a $58 million budget. It’s a stunning return on a film Reynolds lobbied 11 years to make.

Miller, known more for his visual flair than for the brash antics that Reynolds and his writers embraced and that fans loved, wanted a more stylish take, one that would compete with mega-budget superhero movies, insiders said. But it would have cost three times as much as the original $58 million film, the first individual said.

“There were two totally different movies on the table, and one of them just wasn’t ‘Deadpool,” said the first insider, who is familiar with both concepts.

Reynolds, Reese and Wernick’s vision won.

One person said Gianopulos had been a “peacekeeper” between director and star during the production on the first film. He handed the reigns to Stacey Snider on Sept. 1, who has had input on a situation largely handled by 20th Century Fox President of Production Emma Watts.

Another party close to Fox said executives did not have to step in to manage relationships until well after the first film’s release.

Miller pivoted immediately to another priority Fox project, an adaptation of Daniel Suarez’s cyber-crime thriller “Influx.”

Representatives for Miller did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment, nor did reps for Reese or Wernick. A Reynolds spokesperson and 20th Century Fox declined to comment on the matter.

“Deadpool 2” does not currently have a release date. It was written by Reese and Wernick, and will feature popular character Domino, who, like Deadpool, is a former mercenary.

The part is hotly coveted, and those who have screen-tested for it include Kelly Rohrbach, Eve Hewson, Ruby Rose, Mackenzie Davis, Lizzy Caplan, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Sienna Miller, Sofia Boutella, Stephanie Sigman and Sylvia Hoeks.

Reynolds just completed a different collaboration with Reese and Wernick: “Life,” about an international space crew that finds life on Mars, which costars Jake Gyllenhaal and Rebecca Ferguson.

Tim Miller Reportedly Wanted To Spend Upwards Of $150 Million On DEADPOOL Sequel

More details about the "creative differences" between Ryan Reynolds and Tim Miller have surfaced, and it sounds like the director's plans for the Deadpool sequel wouldn't have led to a worthy follow-up.

The Wrap has a new piece up about the recent reveal that director Tim Miller won't return to direct Deadpool 2, and it's beginning to sound like the sequel may be better off with a new filmmaker at the helm. Apparently, Ryan Reynolds and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick wanted to once again make a "scrappy, raunchy and inexpensive movie" similar to the first, but Miller was keen on a more stylish take which would have cost three times as much and been more like regular superhero movies.

There's advantages to both approaches, but a $150 million Deadpool movie would definitely come out vastly different to what preceded it, and it's easy to imagine the charm being lost along the way.

"There were two totally different movies on the table, and one of them just wasn’t Deadpool," an insider familiar with both versions of the sequel told the trade. For better or worse, Reynolds, Reese and Wernick's vision ultimately won, and the hunt for a new director has no doubt already begun.
