Netflix: Luke Cage Season 2 (Discussion Thread) - Spoilers Approved (Update Cancelled!!)

I actually like the guy who played diamondback. i thought he was more intimating than cottonmouth. great series. instant classic.

No. He was FIERCE Cotton was just so smooth but that boy had just as many quotes as Cotton imo

Mariah was like how come you had me come here?
"Power doesn't travel"

"Sell the fear. They need to see the dash cam footage and ask themselves if the world is ready for bulletproof niggas that eat cops for breakfast? Black fear, after abolition it's how the gun laws got enacted in the first place"

He's always smiling too.

Favorite Exchange between Mariah and Diamondback bar none

Mariah: What are doing to my city?
Diamond: It's not yours, never was.
Mariah: Harlem is my birthright. It's MINE city council or not.
Diamond: When justice is done, it is a joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers.
Mariah:You quote the bible like you actually believe in God.
Diamond: And you speak to me as if you're not actually in the presence of death.

No favorites here but I could easily see it
Revenge will drive you to greatness. He did ALL OF THAT so he could get Carl
Imagine if he was driven to just exist lol
He'd be head of a hedge fund.
Like how Mr Stokes would have been a musician
But...

the symbolism is deep.

Every black man would like to be bullet proof. This is the fear of cac.

But what they know is that every black man is one reawakening from being bulletproof.

Becoming unstoppable, immortal. When a black man is awake he becomes like mr. X.

Along with the fact that the Judas bullets are the only way to bring him down... sold by a black man to the police.

Anyone who didn't like this show, fuck them.

Funny part is how yes shades has a Hispanic name, but without it he's just a cac being the devil to a black person. Always in their ear with some shit.

Oh and they were made by a cac to kill a black hero.

Cannot trust a man named shades.
Was in Mr Stokes ear.
Challenged Diamondback
And now is in Mariah's ear guiding her into the dark path.

Great great show
Luke was cold with the game, nigga fucked misty and gave zero fucks flirting with Rosario all up in Misty's face lol

Ok you know that might be the one of the few things I didn't like...

She could really care less...but they kept having her have flashbacks to that night...

I understand they were trying to show she isn't the stereotypical female character and in her own way she had unbreakable skin which we delved into with the psychological exam...but I just didn't like it in the moment.

^^^
YES!

Yeah we loved Cottonmouth, dude was ruthless and was played very well. But the real villain...was Mariah. His death was NEEDED.

Is it wrong I get excited for character development?

cottonmouth was good, but he was too hooked on the gansta shit, he was still wanted his corners so to speak I saw the wire in this show for real.
Mariah saw the light, she was ok with the gansta shit to get things popping, but saw real power was in politics. However no she's out to the political game to a certain extent I think she will go further as a ganster than cottonmouth ever would have because she can see the bigger picture and knows when to cut her losses (she advised cotton to just leave the luke cage alone)

I'm feeling they ain't giving shades enough credit...

He was Iago. The devil on your shoulder. And essentially caused all this mess by telling Cotton bullshit. If Cotton had did what he WANTED to do the whole time contact Diamond himself, he would still be alive.

I really hope that Simone Missick ends up being like Michael K Williams was after the Wire, they started putting this dude in EVERYTHING. He was even in "The Incredible Hulk" with a cameo.

ok final analysis. This is the most authentically black show I've seen on TV "A Different World. From the discussion of Black fiction writers in the Barbershop, to Misty's comment about Inspector Ridley letting her Soror "Skee Wee" out of Jail!!!

Highlights for me were

Simone Missick as Misty Stone - I think we can all agree she's the breakout performer of the show. Huge wide ranging dynamic performance

Mahershala Ali as Cottonmouth - This brother is right there now. From Alphas, The 4400, and Treme, to the House of Cards this brother has consistently putt it down in every role. TV seems to be where he shines' brightest, but I hope he can become a big screen star as well.

Theo Rossi as Shades - I haven't watched Sons of Anarchy, so he was unfamiliar to me as an Actor, but I came to appreciate him as the "Littlefinger-lite" gangsta whisperer that he is.

The Soundtrack - Just dope all around

Of course Mike Colter continue to prove he's Luke Cage for a reason. I felt the show definitely slowed down and changed pace halfway thru. It went from a well done Hero origin story to something much darker and with a deeper message that definitely reflects the times we live in. I assume this was intentional, but I'd love to hear the writers/directors talk about the decision to go that route.

The only negatives to me were the way they handled Cottonmouth's character in the first half of the season. If he's got all this hatred with Luke, you'd think he would have stepped out of the shadows earlier, but I supposed he was waiting to get tooled up right. The Domingo Villain character didn't seem to serve any purpose. Died a meaningless death too.

Snakes always say they're there to help. Hey I got your back
Etc etc.
