the BEST damn 19 minutes of your day! Romany Malco and The Racket of Slavery

SLAVE LAWS PASSED IN VIRGINIA:

1660 — 1680: Slave Laws Further Restrict Freedom of Blacks and Legalize Different Treatment for Blacks and Whites

1667 - Virginia lawmakers say baptism does not bring freedom to blacks. The statute is passed because some slaves used their status as a Christian in the 1640s and 1650s to argue for their freedom or for freedom for a child. Legislators also encourage slave owners to Christianize their enslaved men, women and children.

1668 - Free black women, like enslaved females over the age of 16, are deemed tithable. The Virginia General Assembly says freedom does not exempt black women from taxation.

1669 - An act about the "casual killing of slaves" says that if a slave dies while resisting his master, the act will not be presumed to have occurred with “prepensed malice.”

1670 - Free blacks and Native Americans who had been baptized are forbidden to buy Christian servants.

1672 - It becomes legal to wound or kill an enslaved person who resists arrest. Legislators also deem that the owner of any slave killed as he resisted arrest will receive financial compensation for the loss of an enslaved laborer. Legislators also offer a reward to Indians who capture escaped slaves and return them to a justice of the peace.

That highlighted law in 1670 forbids free blacks and indians from owning WHITE SERVANTS (christian=white) so while free blacks could own other blacks they couldn't own whites by law...

Those set of laws effectively makes slavery chattel and also separates whites from nonwhites in the institution... Its the basis for all the race politics played out even today. Thus creating a level that even the poorest white person can't fall below. Poor whites TODAY catch as much hell as poor minorities but have historically and consistently chosen their skin color over their class distinction because of that very law. This is why white racist groups consist primarily of poor whites, its also why the easiest way to get poor whites to vote AGAINST their economic best interest is to say it helps minorities but especially blacks and you will see poor whites viscerally angry in opposition to whatever measure is proposed even tho it benefits them too. American history has show that poor whites inevitably and invariably WILL choose their skin color over their class distinction whenever rich whites dangle that race politics carrot in their face and the root of that can be traced directly back to that time period.

reader's digest version

You can draw a direct line from police brutality and cops who abuse their authority today right back to the LE of the 1800s post slavery. LE has ALWAYS been used as a force to keep the black community under thumb and LE agents have always had wide discretion in how they uphold the law as long as they upheld the law be it codified or defacto.

In the United States, the Black Codes were laws passed by Southern states in 1865 and 1866, after the Civil War. As the war ended, the US Army implemented Black Codes to regulate the behavior of Black people in general society. A central element of the Black Codes were vagrancy laws. States criminalized men who were out of work, or who were not working at a job whites recognized. Failure to pay a certain tax, or to comply with other laws, could also be construed as vagrancy.

Nine southern states updated their vagrancy laws in 1865–1866. Of these, eight allowed convict leasing (a system in which state prison hired out convicts for labor) and five allowed prisoner labor for public works projects. This created a system that established incentives to arrest black men, as convicts were supplied to local governments and planters as workers.

Jim Crow laws came after and lasted from 1870s to the 1960s just like with Black Codes Law Enforcement was given wide discretion on how to enforce and uphold the law where minorities were concerned.

In the late 20st century...you see this again with the war on drugs and privatization of the prison system. Again LE exercised wide discretion in jailing, profiling and killing blacks based on the laws and attitudes of today.

Just LAST YEAR the JUSTICE DEPARTMENT released a report that found that LE was still operating on some system that was used to enforce Jim Crow laws. Ronald Davis, Community Oriented Policing Services director for the Department of Justice, said at an event at the Center for American Progress. “These are operational systems and policies and practices that exist today.”

Its the legacy of those laws that fill jails with black men in disproportionate numbers since they've been keeping stats on it. Its the legacy of those laws thats shaped the perception of "black on black crime".

Yo it kills me this peice of shit. Sellout coon was the cause behind so many black families being destroyed. There's nothing worse than a drug dealer nothing.

I'm not going to blame drug dealers entirely for their situation. The video explained it.
You take everything away and offer 1 way and that's what happens. If there are options, they would NOT do it. I've never met a drug dealer who wanted to sell drugs cause that's what he was born to do.
I have met plenty who by way of misfortune ENDED UP selling drugs ... and... selling drugs is a drug itself. . once you have nothing then this gets you money quickly its hard to stop getting money quickly
Because people are selling drugs now legally making a fucking killing. The only thing that made drugs bad were lack of treatment for addicts (which whites are now getting) and legalization of those drugs.
If they're legal and you can open a business, there is no need for territorial shooting and everything else that goes along with it.

Damnnnnn... very dope and informative. We show to my kids! Thanks!!!!

I have a hard time watching or respecting this dude after reading his trayvon martin rant years ago. He basically goes on a "we do this to each other all the time" type of rant and said Trayvon was nothing special in the grand scheme of things.

Not defending him, but we can't bat a thousand...
I do however, reserve judgment until I read this article in its entirety

Not only is he offering an interpretation of our plight he lays out a solution......yea not defending the Trayvon stance but we can't ignore other truths. He's had time to read and study on being Black as many Slaves/convicts have done in the past. Does prison life create an awakening like it has for many of our leaders or do all Blackmen have the potential for this level of wisdom?
