New Show On FX: Tyrant

Disappointing.

But about on par with the entire series.

some great performances especially when oyu consider the COMPLETE transformation some characters went through.

I feel like you really blame casting for many of the shows pitfalls.

and as I have said a few hundred times Ihad Rashid ruined this show.

He was supposed to be THE MAN..

he was supposed to be a a devout loyal handsome man COMMITTED to the faith an idealist almost the mirror Bassam and they were to twist and turn HIM like Bassam but in toward radicalism.

But he never OWNED a scene of made you feel ANYTHING for him.

You could essentially you ca say the same for Sammy.

The woman on this show were OUTSTANDING

and you got to give Barry Bassam Khalil Mr. President a solid round of applause.

That was NOT an easy role to pull off.

When the actress who plays Molly finally embrace her inner Alexis Colby?

she seemed FINALLY really invested.

But we all the truth...

they killed Jamal

Damn Cancelled?

I wish we could have got a resolution, this show this season was wild! Everybody was catching it.

His damn son caught one and was gone be doing his Charles Xavier impression next season.

Not sad to see it go, but just wish we got an ending.

FX Cancels ‘Tyrant,’ Series to End Tonight

FX has canceled “Tyrant,” meaning the series will officially conclude this evening with the Season 3 finale.

“It’s very difficult to find common ground with other people whose stories we do not know or understand,” said John Landgraf, CEO of FX Networks and FX Productions, in a statement. “The creators of ‘Tyrant’ have done their utmost over three seasons to tell American audiences a tiny fraction of the many gripping, human stories coursing through the Middle East today. We want to thank Howard Gordon, Chris Keyser and their talented team of collaborators, including all the writers, directors, cast and crew, as well as our studio partners at Fox 21 Television Studios, for taking on ‘Tyrant’s’ tremendously ambitious story with such profound dedication and respect.”

“‘Tyrant’ is a beloved show to all of us at Fox 21 Television Studios, and we are indebted to Howard and Chris for their incredible work, and to John Landgraf and everyone at FX who have been fantastic partners,” said Fox 21 Television Studios President Bert Salke. “We feel the show is a gem and we’d love to find a way to keep it in production. That said, we want to be realistic about its prospects. So for its loyal audience,tonight’s episode will be a satisfying end should the series not find another home, but also provides interesting possibilities should we be able to continue on some other platform.”

The series finale of “Tyrant” airs at 10 p.m. ET tonight, September 7, on FX. “Tyrant” followed an American family drawn into the inner workings of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation.

Episode 10 — “Two Graves” — sees Barry and Molly are on the brink of waging war on the Caliphate, while Leila makes a bold political move and braves the possibility of a close betrayal. Meanwhile, Barry and Daliyah face a final reckoning in their relationship and the conflict in Abuddin threatens to turn into a bloody civil war. The episode was written by Christopher Keyser and Howard Gordon, and directed by Gwyneth Horder-Payton.

“Tyrant” is executive produced by Gordon, Chris Keyser, Gideon Raff and Avi Nir. The series stars Adam Rayner, Jennifer Finnigan, Moran Atias, Ashraf Barhom, Noah Silver, Alexander Karim, Cameron Gharaee, Melia Kreiling and Chris Noth. “Tyrant” is produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions.

What???

FX is cleaning house no more favors.

I actually watched that Leary show...and funny thing is? I think the half hour format sinked it. Not his lane.

The sonGS weren't good, and early on it wasn't funny enough.

But the cast was actually good.

You gotta be a REAL fan of his specific comedy...and as usual the whole thing was so uneven.

I am a rescue me die hard but even that was as usual uneven inconsistent all over the place storylines were forgotten mixed up...but when it was good? It was great. Hell I even liked the Job.

But if he wasnt buddies with the FX president? it shouldn't have gotten a second season.

He need to make a one hour dark comedy drama about either current police or back in the 60s/70s.
 
I doubt anyone picks this up so many nails in the coffin for this series which had such a great start
I do hope to see the actors and actresses from this show in other films/t.v shows soon.

Why FX Canceled 'Tyrant'

To hear Fox 21 president Bert Salke tell it, producers knew after season two that Tyrant was on thin ice should its viewership not grow in season three.

"We knew after the second year and were really aware that for a show we felt so strongly about — and the fan base felt so strongly about — that the numbers weren't commensurate with the base for the show," Salke told THR on Wednesday of the pricey drama. "Nobody was more aware than the FX people and John wanted to get in front of it."

Salke noted that Landgraf gave the series an opportunity to continue telling its story and, should it end, provide a satisfying conclusion to its small but loyal viewership — but if the numbers grew, the drama would likely live on. To that end, Landgraf would provide regular weekly ratings updates to Salke, Gordon and Keyser.

"Chris, Howard and the studio went in with very open eyes and hoping for the best," Salke says. "We were getting behind it the same way we do every year and preparing for any number of outcomes. There were no surprises."

As part of their plan to build viewership — season two averaged 2.47 million total viewers and 1 million adults 18-49 when factoring in seven days of DVR — producers enlisted The Good Wife's Chris Noth as a series regular for season three. Last week's penultimate episode of season three drew just 830,000 live viewers, withTyrant averaging 1.5 million total viewers with three days of DVR.


"The studio, Chris and Howard all felt the show was better creatively than it had ever been," Salke says. "But as the year went on and the numbers weren't bumping up, we were aware of where these last episodes were going to go and had to make a satisfying ending and make sure we left things — if indeed it would leave FX, which John would decide — open for opportunities if need be."

Had that uptick occurred, Tyrant likely would have made it to a fourth season at FX but instead, Salke is optimistic that the drama will land at a streaming service (like Netflix, Hulu or Amazon) with the studio "actively engaged" in finding Tyrant a new home, with a decision on the show's future expected to happen "quickly."

Salke says Hulu, which currently has the rights to the first two seasons of Tyrant, appears to be the most likely candidate. The streaming service, which at press time denied talks were underway for Tyrant, recently rescued Nashville from death after ABC canceled the country music drama ,and did the same for The Mindy Project after Fox opted out. Reps for Netflix also denied that the streaming giant is in talks or has interest in picking up the show.

"Conversations are ongoing and they are meaningful because we're invested in the show," Salke says. "When this happens, it's more likely than not that when a show dies on cable or broadcast, the studio walks away. In the old days, that's all you had. Now you talk about it but the truth is you don't jump in unless you really have a passion for the show and believe there's life and an audience left for the show. We believe that."


That Tyrant even got to a third season was considered a surprise at the time of its renewal after multiple (expensive) set relocations and a critical backlash. Working in its favor was the fact that the series was produced by FX corporate sibling and that Landgraf believed in the future of the show's creative. The well respected executive previously told reporters that he had a formula for determining a show's renewal: "I and my team get one vote, [critics] and the other experts get one vote, and the audience gets one vote. Two votes gets a show picked up, but we overrule a two-to-one vote against us for a time if we believe either the audience or the experts will come around based on the quality of the show."

Sums up Salke: "We all talk about how there's a lot of TV and how TV has evolved in this 'Peak TV' era but we rarely talk about those good things that are offshoots of all this growth — like the movement and ability ofNashville or Tyrant, God willing. To keep shows going is really a benefit that seven years ago was so unusual. I believe you'll see it a lot more and we're all grateful for it."
