If They Don't Get Injured, Who Has The Better Career: G. Hill or Penny?

Do this. Go back and look at Penny's stats. Forget about his name and just go look at his stats.

Penny's stats make him look like a borderline All-Star, rather than a superstar, with his own sneaker and doll.

I was in my teens when Penny was at his peak, and didn't care about or grasp the meaning of basketball stats.

Looking back is kind of crazy.

Truth be told, a no. of guys we thought of as GREAT didn't produce at the level you'd expect relative to their reps. For instance, Kemp averaged 20ppg ONCE in his career. I thought Kemp was as beast.

Agreed.

There's no telling how high Penny could've advanced if Shaq stayed in Orlando.

Man, looking at the stats, it looks like Shaq made Penny.

He did suffer career altering injuries, so its hard to say, but its not like he was putting up all-time great stats WITH Shaq.

He was really good and an interesting hybrid type of player...like.he resembles the types of players you see NOW... but he wasn't beasting on people like that... wasn't like he was mashing on people like McGrady was a similar style player (although Penny tried to play like a more traditional ball handler)...now go back and look at TMac's stats

I'm very familiar with T-Mac's stats.

What I find odd about HIS stats is shooting percentages compared to Kobe's. T-Mac never shot more than 45 percent for a season. Kobe did it seven times, but Kobe was very ........ erratic and prone to taking tough shots.

But, beyond all of that, he does come off as a lot more productive than Penny. I guess Penny just seemed to be a complete player in that he could do everything. Score inside, mid-range, outside, pass VERY well ... was a very good defender. It just isn't showing up in the stats at all.

Then handchecking rules must've been a BITCH ... 'cause even Grant Hill numbers are lower than you'd expect. No way T-Mac, Kobe ... and all of these new age guys just have THAT MUCH more offensive ability than G. Hill, Penny, and the great guards from the 90s.

Grant Hill was the Tim Duncan of small forwards. Dude was incredibly fundamentally sound and a highly efficient player. And he played with bums at Detroit. If he had a little bit of help… maybe Detroit wouldn't have rolled him out in the playoffs with that bad ankle that ultimately fucked his career.
