Game of Thrones relationships are complicated as this diagram proves. Spoilers ahead.

The Winds of Winter” finally took us inside the Tower of Joy. Here's a brief recap of what brought Ned there:

The only daughter of Rickard Stark, Lord of Winterfell, Lyanna Stark was engaged to marry Robert Baratheon. According to Littlefinger, eyebrows were raised at a tourney hosted at Harrenhal when Prince Rhaegar Targaryen rode past his own wife, Princess Elia Martel, and presented his winner's crown of winter roses to Lyanna instead.

Sometime after, news spread that Rhaegar had abducted Lyanna. When her brother Ned made his way to Dorne and found the Tower of Joy, he discovered his sister, Lyanna, drenched in blood and sweat on a bed. “Promise me, Ned,” she whispered as a brown-eyed newborn was placed into her brother’s arms.

nice...I forgot the connection between the martells and the targaryens

One of my favorite historical fiction writers, Conn Iggulden, has been doing a recap of the "Wars of the Roses" in 15th century England. As a history major many years ago, I wrote my masters thesis on this struggle. Accoring to the publisher's WoR is the historical basis for GOT. So, I devoured the first two books in the series. The third book, "Bloodline" comes out in a few weeks, just in time to fill the gap between Season 7 of GOT and the NFL. I just looked at the publisher's description of the book. Sound familiar?

"Winter 1461: Richard, duke of York, is dead—his ambitions in ruins, his head spiked on the walls of the city.
King Henry VI is still held prisoner. His Lancastrian queen, Margaret of Anjou, rides south with an army of victorious northerners, accompanied by painted warriors from the Scottish Highlands. With the death of York, Margaret and her army seem unstoppable.
Yet in killing the father, Margaret has unleashed the sons.
Edward of March, now duke of York, proclaims himself England’s rightful king. Factions form and tear apart as snow falls. Through blood and treason, through broken men and vengeful women, brother shall confront brother, king shall face king.
Two men can always claim a crown—but only one can keep it.
Following Margaret of Anjou, Bloodline is the third epic installment in master storyteller Conn Iggulden’s new Wars of the Roses series. Fans of the Game of Thrones and the Tudors series will be gripped from the word “go.” "

For the history buffs, who do you think is Warwick in GOT?
Littlefinger is Warwick, AKA the Kingmaker. Cersei appears to be based on Margaret of Anjou. Starz did a 6 episode series called the White Queen in '13 that was excellent and broke down the whole story. The only problem I had with it were the battle scenes, which were absolutely dreadful and lacking that oomph. Otherwise it was a good watch.

Fans (including myself) of the show enjoyed the scene of Arya getting her revenge and the way it occurred by surprise. Another golden egg was when Lord Frey says to Jamie, "where are the Starks now?"as disguised Arya walks though the frame. Beautifully done by the director. One of the many great scenes of the season finale. My point is that its not unfathomable to believe an assassin in disguise could take out the Freys in the manner that she did.

The show never defined what the timeline (i.e. day 1200) was for Arya to master what she does so debating whether she had "sufficient time" is inconsequential. Whether she learned her skill set in record time, average time, or below average time of other students of the temple is moot.[/QUOTE

For me it's not a question about if it was a good scene or not. I'm not even questinning could an assassin get in and out without being seen. What I find hard to believe is that a child who had no prior experience outside very basic sword training could pull off an assassination at that level.that's why the time frame of the training is important. We don't need to know how long the training typically takes (it would help), but based on the fact that Arya had problems letting go of who she was shows that she still should be developing her skills and should not been able to pull it off so easily.

If we know that Arya is out for revenge and has a list, how is it a surprise that she is killing people who she felt hurt her family.we also already knew she was going back home, so chances are she would run across more targets. Next by your own words, the freys are not a big deal. Killing Jamie would have been a surprise or even Bronn for shock, but the people she killed won't even be missed by the fans. Her assassination was pretty much the same as last year except last year I didn't question it because of the degree of difficulty was inline with what I thought her skills could handle at that time. I don't think her killing was the surprise, but the fact that she was so close to home added with the fact that Jon and Sansa are also near by.I believe that is what people enjoyed about the scene and not the killing itself.

I like re-watching the entire series after each season. Its a good way to catch things that I may have previously missed or see things from a new light based on new information. Case in point, the scene above with Jon and Ned's goodbye. It used to seem like Ned was just bullshitting because he never wanted to discuss Jon's mother, but now that little conversation seem really different.

Maybe Ned wasn't bullshitting at all and was actually going to tell Jon the truth. Remember that when someone takes the black, they are supposed to be out of the reach of lords, ladies, and even kings. Maybe Ned was just waiting for Jon to take the black, so that he could tell him the truth without having to worry about Robert trying to kill him.

Had they all lived, Robert would have probably still tried to kill him, but Ned was stubbornly honor blinded so he probably would have thought he could come out with the truth after Jon was a sworn in brother of the Watch and everything would be okay.

Even if Robert would have respected Ned's wishes, someone else would have probably killed him anyway. Im not sure how much Robert cared about Ned's sister but Robert may not have killed Jon out of his love for her, so was ned protecting Jon from Robert or other members of the court.

Robert was on some Targaryen genocide extermination (even though his grandmother was a Targ)

Ned quit as Roberts hand of the king because he was against killing Danaerys who was a child in Neds eyes ...Robert wanted her dead immediately before the Khal Drago wedding

Robert loved Lyanna Stark. That was supposedly the only woman who he ever truly loved. And he wanted to kill anybody named Targaryen, especially Rhaegar's children. Robert was okay with Tywin ordering the Mountain to bash Rhaegar's true born babies to death so just imagine how he would have dealt with Jon, the bastard child of Rhaegar and Robert's beloved Lyanna (who Robert believed was raped by Rhaegar).

Robert was not related to the Targaryen's , unless I am wrong you got a link?

Also the reason he lost Lyann was Jon's childbirth. It's what tkilled her not Rhaegars "kidnapping". Robert woulda been consumed with hate for John. Ned played it right.

I think Robyn of the vale is petyrs son and tyrion new it. Look at the clip from the season where tyrion told 3 tales about marrying off Marcella to someone. Tyrion may have known about petyrs relationship with caitylns sister.

I did it before the season began and had the same idea :

I too just re-watched the 1st 2 ep of season 1 this line leaped out at me at the :35 mark

He told jon 'the next time we see each other we'll talk about your mother!'

Of course we know ned got the loppty lop and it seems Jon is now dead. sooo in theory if they see each other it would be in the afterlife. Of course there were rumors sean bean ned himself could be in flashback scenes why not an afterlife scene.

Right before dude brings jon back to life.

I'm starting from season one again. I never realized how much I missed. How there are little details that were throughout the entire series.

Do yourself a favor and read the books/audiobook instead, there are so much more details that aren't mentioned in the show

I actually went and rewatched seasons 1-3 and part of 4 before season 6 began. Not only did I realize how much I missed in season 1, but a lot of what happened in season 3 ( red wedding, Rickon separating from Bran, etc.) was resolved this season. Also the history and lore videos really tie things together.

I predict the remaining Lannisters will perish except for Tyrion
Jon Snow will meet and join forces with Daenerys Targaryen and they will battle the White Walker's together
They will also fall in love and since the producers say the show will end in a bittersweet way
one of the two will perish im leaning towards Jon but he does live long enough see the birth of his child with
Daenerys

I am paying closer attention to what is going on this second time around. Shit makes me even hate Edward Stark. How dumb can a guy be. He was too filled with all that honor mumbo jumbo. Shit. Even in the first episode with beheading the Knight's watch guy. Just beheading. No trial. Nothing. The decisions people make and their consequences.

Wrong! When all is done there shall be one king and his name shall be Bronn, son of who you've never heard of.

She can't have kids.

epic lol? cersei pulled one hell of an ace out her sleeve this ep...but that's it...she's done...she wore herself thin w/ this move...I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't even get to face off against dany...jaime might dead her first

Good point!

God, the second audiobook was so long and had so many boring parts. I swear to God when I write I hope that I do not drawn on like this man did during the second book. You've got tomake pertinent details more interesting

I downloaded the audiobooks a minute ago . I started then I stopped. I just couldn't get through them at that time. One of my peeps did the same and he has a hour's drive from work.
