CBS - Supergirl Trailer

Supergirl renewed and moving to The CW

Reports also have it that the series will move production from Los Angeles to Vancouver, where those other shows also film, but The CW would not confirm. The move could also bring more cross-over opportunities between Berlanti-verse brands, such as when The Flashjoined Supergirl earlier this year.

The show’s budget is likely to be impacted. The Supergirl pilot cost a reported $14 million and the per-episode cost is reportedly around $3 million. As Berlanti once told EW: “The other thing I would say was incredibly hard, was just trying to do something of this scope and size, and, quite truthfully, in Los Angeles. It’s an expensive city to shoot in. These things don’t come cheap, and we didn’t want to do it if we couldn’t give it the scope that it really deserves.”

That means Supergirl 2.0 will likely be a more frugal production. Shooting in Vancouver instead of Los Angeles should alone bring some of the cost down, but it remains to be seen whether fans will be able to ascertain any production value difference on screen.

This will show if Berlanti REALLY is the showrunner supreme he is supposed to be...

It just needs to look BIG and BRIGHT and it will be fine.

We don't need an EPIC battle ever week ...she is NOT Superman. and if they could do Smallville? They can do this just fine on a lower budget.

Hell I seen some youtube fan flicks that look better then some Hollywood productions.

They need to have Kara have to operate WITH her powers not just be a tool .

She is supposed to talk have emotions insecurities...they NEED to get some of Whedon's crew to write this stuff

this should be essentially Buffy 2.o in the right hands.

And DO NOT have everyone know her identity...stop that sh*t Berlanti. Its lazy and causes to many writing issues.

WITH "SUPERGIRL," CW SAYS FOUR-WAY FALL CROSSOVER WILL BE "BIGGEST ONE EVER"

Following the reveal of their fall lineup earlier today, Variety has a report from a conference call that CW president Mark Pedowitz held with reporters. The CW head said that planning is underway for a crossover between all four of the network's DC-based superhero shows. Pedowitz said that he feels confident that the shows' producing teams, led by Greg Berlanti, will make sure that “our annual crossover event this fall [will] be the biggest one ever.”

Since the launch of "The Flash," crossovers between the CW's DC series have become an annual event, usually airing ahead of the midseason finale. The 2015 crossover between "Flash" and "Arrow" lead directly into the launch of "Legends of Tomorrow." Pedowitz's comments now indicate that the 2016 crossover could include all four shows: "Supergirl," "Flash," "Arrow" and "Legends."

The CW president also spoke about the discussions that took place between the network and CBS that brought "Supergirl" to its new network. Pedowitz revealed that conversations about acquiring the show only began about a week and a half ago. On "Supergirl's" move, Pedowitz said the show is “where it should have been in the first place.” He also predicts that "Supergirl" will be one of its top three most-watched series this fall.

He clarified that there isn't a major new mandate for the show's producers, other than moving production to Vancouver. “I don’t think [the move] will have a major effect on how they actualize what they do," said Pedowitz. He addressed speculation that the move would mean losing cast member Calista Flockhart, who plays Cat Grant, saying that discussions are in progress with the actress and that she wants to continue with the series.

"Supergirl" airs at 8 PM on Mondays this fall on the CW.

losing calista flockhart in the show isn't that big a deal really.. the main draw is melissa benoist anyway..tell you the truth now may be the best time to change any weak or fatty elements of the show.

Kill off or move out those characters or elements that aren't connect as well.. the network has all the leverage here.

Superman Will Appear in Supergirl Season 2 Premiere

The Man of Steel is coming to National City. Superman will appear on the first two episodes of Supergirl season 2, flying to television just as Supergirl flies to its new home on The CW. The character has not yet been cast, but his appearance was revealed via a press release, perhaps because casting announcements have just been sent out. "We are currently in the casting process for this role," Warner Bros. TV announced, implying that we won't see big-screen Superman Henry Cavill crossing over to the land of television, in keeping with the previous separation of DC's TV and Movies.

"Greg, Ali and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl. Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!" said executive producer Andrew Kreisberg.

The character of Superman has already appeared on Supergirl, just only as a purely CGI character, and always with his face obscured. Clark Kent gave Kara some encouragement via instant message throughout the first season of the show, which aired on CBS, as well. Previously, it was speculated that he wouldn't fully appear on the series, as it seemed most characters appearing on the big screen in feature films were being held off from the small screen - characters like Amanda Waller and Deadshot (and the whole concept of the Suicide Squad), for example, were killed off on Arrow as the Suicide Squadfilm approached.

Kreisberg previously told Comicbook.com last November that they hadn't "been jonesing to have Superman on [the show]." He explained that it was a purely creative decision, though, by those running the show (Kreisberg, along with fellow EPs Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler), and that there wasn't "anything [they've] asked for that was not given to [them]."

The EP also said in that previous interview that "if you're going to cast Superman, you've got cast Superman right!" That seems to click with the idea of announcing the character's appearance while the casting process is ongoing.

"For us, Superman is more of an idea than it is a personification of the character, so we're more than happy to have him backlit," Kreisberg said of his season one appearances. "We're perfectly happy to have him swoop in, save Kara in Episode Three, because the real heart of the story is that she then kicks Reactron's butt. She's the one that takes him down, and that's what much more important for us.

"So it's not like we've been asking for more Superman or can we do it like this or can we have him in this. For us, we're perfectly happy with the amount of Superman that we've had because it's the exact amount that we've asked for."

Now, they've asked for him.

Superman comes to Supergirl as the show joins the DCTV line-up on The CW. Starting this fall, The CW will have a DC Comics-based superhero TV show Monday-Thursday nights at 8pm. The network has also already announced a four-way crossover between the series, though they've given no details on how exactly that will happen. Currently, Supergirl exists on an alternate Earth from the other three shows, Arrow, The Flash, and Time-Traveling epic Legends of Tomorrow, though thanks to the antics of the last two, it is easy to see how they could either travel to that world or merge it into their own sometime this season.

Supergirl currently employs two former members of the House of El, as Helen Slater, who played Supergirl in the 80s film and Dean Cain, who was Superman on Lois and Clark in the 90s, appear as Kara's adoptive parents. Some fans have petitioned to have Smallville's Tom Welling, who played a young Clark Kent on that series for ten years, to return as Superman on Supergirl, though those petitions haven't typically flown very far.

I don't know why DC keeps poisoning the few good shows they have by associating them with the total crap of their other shows and movies but oh, well.

Man it is tough to get an article in before you guys. I literally just saw this come across my screen and it better be freaking Tom Welling. Based on the Multi-verse idea... you can bring him in as Clark on this World and still have the previous Smallville episodes exist.

He said a few times, last year he don't mind reprising his role.

It makes sense,if you ask me

After thinking about... this might actually be a stupid idea. They have made Superman into a Weak Nerd punk on Supergirl and anyone cast as Superman will immediately come across as inferior to Supergirl because she so far has been able to do things that he hasn't. I still want Tom Welling to be cast, but I don't think this is going to be as huge of a deal that the producers would like to make. BUT.... it does create an amazing situation. Does this now mean that WB has finally loosen their grips on their characters.... Does this mean that Batman could drop into Arrow or Joker/ Harley Quinn could make an appearance?

Batman probably but Joker & Harley no way :dunno: if Batman were to show up on Arrow it probably would be for an episode involving Ras'al Ghul

Man fuck tom welling.. He couldnt even put on the suit for his own show which was the one thing he absolutely shouldve done, but they had to cgi it instead. So why should he get the chance to suit up on another show? Let the red blue blur stay in obscurity.

They already established Harley exists in their world in Season 2. So it should be easier to do Joker and Harley then Batman. I think Harley would be fucking perfect for Arrow. Mainly because you rarely see a female Big Bad in a genre show.

Also doesnt Fox have the television rights to Batman-related stuff now with Gotham?

Superman Is Coming To The CW!!

smallville.jpg

Superman appears every week in the opening of “Supergirl,” but the series has never offered the sound of his voice or a good look at his face. That should change in a matter of months.

Will they ever let this version of Clark Kent transverse universes to hang out with fellow Justice Leaguers Green Arrow and The Atom?

The wording in the press release suggests Tom Welling, who played Clark on “Smallville,” is too busy to finally don the blue tights:

Warner Bros. Television and The CW announced today that after much instant messaging between the two last season, Superman will be making an appearance in National City at the start of Supergirl Season 2, bringing together the two members of the Super Family onscreen for the first time since they were seen together on Smallville in 2010. The role isn't yet cast, but expect news on that when it breaks.
"Greg, Ali and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl," says Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg. "Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!"

What a way to kick off the new season! Now, when do you think we'll be seeing Krypto... ?

“Supergirl” aired on CBS but moves to The CW this fall.

* how they NOT gonna bring back Tom Welling :smh:

^^ He has a show he created/is starring in called Section 13 for CBS..i bet he'll agree to playing Superman/Clark again on the condition that CBS greenlights his series

He would only be in the first two episodes of season 2 as of right now. As someone who watched 10 seasons of Smallville with the lame ass pay off we got it would be a great nod to the fans. They could even bring back Michael Rosenberg as Lex if he's down.

You know, as an actor Tom Welling may have moved on, we fans sometimes have a totally different perspective.

I was reading the Supergirl Reddit page and someone mentioned that CBS didn't pick up the show that Burgerpimp just posted about. I get that some actors don't like to return to previous roles. If Welling isn't doing anything then why not play the part that buttered his bread.

Supergirl Adds 5 New Characters in Season 2—What's It Mean for Cat Grant?

Supergirl continues to add to its super-good-looking ranks in Season 2. According to TV Line, the series, which is making the jump to The CW in Season 2, will be adding five new major characters in addition to casting the heretofore unseen Man of Steel.

Two of the roles the series is attempting to cast--Lena Luthor, the younger sister of Lex Luthor, and a man by the name of Nick Farrow--will be series regulars. Described as being sexy and smart because this is TV, Lena comes to National City with the intent of escaping her balder older brother, best known in the comics universe and beyond for being Superman's arch-nemesis.

Nick, meanwhile, is said to be a "brash leading man" who will make life difficult for Kara (Melissa Benoist) at CatCo. He's the son of a famous reporter and is looking to step out of the shadows, but it remains to be seen whether or not he'll be able to change his self-indulgent ways for the better.

The remaining three roles will be recurring characters. There's a woman known as the Doctor, which we're pretty sure has nothing to do with a TARDIS. She's the leader of Project Cadmus and uses her skills to implant alien technology into prisoners, which sounds kind of rude, to be honest. Snapper Carr, which is a pretty great name, is a seasoned journalist hand-picked by Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) to revamp CatCo's newsroom.

And finally, there's Maggie, a lesbian detective inspired by comic book character Maggie Sawyer. She works for the Science Police, a new team that deals with metahumans and alien threats, and would probably fit right in with Barry and Cisco and the rest of Team Flash when the two shows inevitably cross over again.

Not only will the series' move from CBS to corporate sibling The CW--and the decision to move production from Los Angeles to Vancouver--make crossovers between the DC Comics' series easier to facilitate, but it also raises the question of whether or not we're in for a major shake-up in Season 2. Most importantly: Does this casting news mean what we think it could mean--that some of our favorite Season 1 characters, specifically Calista Flockhart's Cat Grant, will not be back?

When news of the show's renewal broke in April, it was reported that Flockhart, easily the biggest name attached to the superhero drama, would remain with the series in Season 2. But in the wake of the news that the show is adding two new regulars, as well as a character who's going to be running CatCo's newsroom, is it possible that Flockhart won't be back--or at the very least, will only be recurring? It's definitely something to consider, so now may be a good time to stock up on tissues, just in case.

Well shit... even though I do like this dude from his role on Teen Wolf, I think that CW dropped the ball on this if Tom Welling was available.

SUPERMAN CAST FOR SUPERGIRL: SEASON 2

Tyler Hoechlin lands the role of Kara's iconic cousin.

BY MATT FOWLER

After keeping the character off-screen during Season 1, it was recently announced that Superman will be introduced in Season 2 of Supergirl, as the show moves to the CW. Now we know who'll be portraying the Man of Steel in his new TV incarnation, as Tyler Hoechlin has been cast in the role of Superman/Clark Kent.

Hoechlin first gained attention playing Tom Hanks' son in Road to Perdition, and like his fellow CW/DC Comics hero Colton Haynes (Arrow's Roy Harper/Red Arrow), he's a Teen Wolf alum. More recently, Hoechlin appeared in Fifty Shades of Grey and Richard Linklater's Everybody Wants Some.

Superman will be introduced visiting his cousin Kara (Melissa Benoist) in National City at the beginning of Season 2, appearing in the first two new episodes.

Said Supergirl executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, in a statement, "Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman. We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character."

I'm still trying to figure out how they are going to do any of this. It doesn't sound like they are going to start the seasons with a unified event. So I don't know Karas world is going to link to the others.

We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character."

wow...they REALLY didn't get Welling for this?

I do not understand how the last few months it seems both WB/DC TV and Movies are really NOT giving a sh*t about long time fans...

I'm still trying to figure out how they are going to do any of this. It doesn't sound like they are going to start the seasons with a unified event. So I don't know Karas world is going to link to the others.

they probably going to save that big crossover event for sweeps month i guess

That's the worst mistake that they could make and I guarantee that you are right. My biggest concern is Arrow, because if they start the Season off as if nothing as changed then I'm done with the show. I'm going to needs some changes... Even if he is still Mayor, I'm going to need to see random things effected. Like Laura is still alive and Felicity is gone because of Oliver hiding secrets. Legends of Tomorrow... should be the only show not truly affected by the time shift.

IMO Arrow time line should reset after season 2. Barry got the full speed force abilities after season 2 of Arrow. So bring back Roy as Red Arrow, Thea never came back after leaving, Sara never died and neither does Laura. Also bring back Amanda Waller. Or they can fully reset the time line and bring back Tommy but the actor is on some soap opera now I think.

Lynda Carter has been tapped to play the leader of the free world opposite Melissa Benoist on the second season of superhero drama series Supergirl on the CW.
