i don't know if you'd call him my mentor but i look up to and want to be like Barack Obama.![]()
I want/need a mentor.
I've had different kinds athe different times in my life, but right now... I'm in need of someone to give me advice that's at or has been where I'm trying to go.
I don't know how to find a mentor. Best I can come up with is be likeable enough to have someone take an interest in me & business's success![]()
I myself mentor and advisor entrepreneurs but would like to have someone guide me through the steps of developing a successful consulting firm helping to catalyze urban entrepreneurship. Mentors are the only real shortcuts in life as their experience and knowledge can keep you from wrongly pivoting.
Also, a mentor in real estate development would be such plus in my life right now…Such a plus![]()
As far as finding a mentor goes, it really depends on the industry/sector/trade and the wealth/influence of your network.
IDEAS ON FINDING A MENTOR:
1. Show a burning desire for what you do
2. Know exactly what you want from him/her
2. Have a proven concept and minimal viable product if in business
3. Utilize your network's networth
4. Manage that relationship (tit-for-tat scenario)
5. Apply/employ their advice
6. Show decisiveness & leadership qualities (most mentors are industry leaders)
7. Be willing to listen, learn, and apply
8. Position yourself in an environment where you can meet teachers
9. BE LIKABLE (Tony Robbins advice, haha)
10.
These are just general advice and mostly for business people but I'm sure some are universal enough.
Who is guiding you along that path?
Without somewhat understanding the path, what you have is a wish.
Hit up linkedin and make connections.
Join a real estate dev group, share some resources, some opinions, questions etc
That is how I found some of my mentors throughout the years
how so?
you can watch someone and emulate their actions right?![]()
I am seriously under-utilizing the power of LinkedIn even though I know how powerful of a tool it can be. I'm currently utilizing my brand name to get face time with local brokers and investors but have yet to sit down with a proven real estate developer to talk about how I can enter and impact the game. I know of others who are in my predicament but like me they lack the experience.
you saying if you watch Curry long enough you could shoot?
I'm trying to take my business (landscaping & lawn care) to the next level; gov't contracts, corporate contracts, schools, city, county, & state work.Where you trying to go?
Where do the people who are already there hand out online and offline?
Only to a certain degree.how so?

I have 3 and I am to 5 at the moment!
Extremely important to my growth and development. When I left my career if they were not their to help guide me I wouldnt have made it.
Yes I do.but do you have one?
That's really making reasons for NOT reaching out.
You can't let your brain play games like this.
If you were to follow that list I'm sure come next year there would be little traction.
Mentors are there to help you "figure things out".
So it's expected you don't know so don't pretend to know.
Just ask genuine questions.

I need one badly. I've tried to reach out to a few of the members on BGOL if for nothing else but joint ventureship opportunities to no avail. I really enjoyed the "BluntBit" project and was looking for ward to seeing more like it.
I just think that it's sad that you have a group of individuals who interact daily who either cannot or refuse to work together.

grad school is serious out the gate. The level of difficulty is multiplied by your concentration. Im in grad school now. I would suggest you pick a professor. Your instructors have meetings about the students during the semester. They ALWAYS discuss their students progress. The students who get the most love & support are the ones who make it a point to establish & maintain relationships with them thru out the semester. Utilize as much as their office time as you possibly can.In search for one now for grad school.
Unfortunately I hAve no idea where to start.
