So what u sayin issssssssss....It's not because DC made a shitty product, it's because they're more scrutinized? If Avengers was more "scrutinized" it wouldn'ta made all that money huh?
There's several reasons why, imo.
But one of the DC's biggest problems is that the Warner Brothers Executives have way too much input (and control) over the stuff that DC's 'creative department' makes.
For Example: I've been playing the DCUO Online MMO video game for over 5 years now. On their official gaming forum, the game developers themselves have often admitted / posted that they are not 'free' to create any content they want to, or introduce a lot of great ideas for the game that came from 'community suggestions' posted on the forums.... because EVERYTHING they code needs to be pre-approved by both Sony & Warner Brothers suits.
And over the last 5 years, I've seen tons of great ideas get shot down by the DCUO game developers who have stated things like that 'we can't do that because we can't use certain storylines, or add certain characters because it may conflict with movies that are under development, or will soon be under development, or because it conflicts with certain licensing deals with Warner Brothers'...
Or even they go so far as to sometimes say 'the WB lawyers won't allow that....'.
(They say it on the forums & at yearly gaming conventions like E3, and their annual SOE event)
The bottom line is that their convoluted WB 'approval process' even hinders the creativity of the game developers of DCUO.
Now this is just ONE video game title that is produced & coded by a completely independent studio that is NOT owned by Warner Brothers, they just 'partnered' with them.... So I can imagine how much input the WB Execs probably have over the MOVIES that are directly produced under their own roof, with their own staff.
The only 2 situatuons that I personally have ever heard / or read about that WB Execs do not interfere with the 'creative process' is....
- The DC animated cartoons. (Which are fully produced by DC Comics, and just 'distributed' by WB)
- And Chris Nolan's Batman Trilogy. (Which WB studio gave him complete control over the 'final cut')
But that's about it.
I haven't seen anything else that leads me to believe that the WB Studio Execs are completely 'hands off' when it comes to creative.
On the flip side, Marvel Studios has complete control over their own movies.
Marvel doesn't have Hollywood Accountants & Marketing Executives, Glorified Analysts and 'paper pushers' with MBA degrees..... Sitting in the film editing bay, or in some small screening room.... making crucial 'creative decisions' like 'deciding which scenes to cut out' to make movies fit into a specific 'run time'.
Marvel has 'creative people' making final 'creative decisions'. As for DC? Not necessarily.
Because if the WB movie studio staff exert so much control over independent video game coders... then chances are they exert even MORE creative control over the film directors.
Combine that with any scriptwriting errors that have some plot holes... plus a director (like Zach Snyder) who isn't as good at 'storytelling' as he is at 'visual special effects'... and you end up with a product (like BvS) that is not as 'cohesive' a film (from top to bottom) as the recent competition from Marvel Studios.
It's ALL of these things.... Combined.... That could be blamed.
DC won't make serious headway until Warner Brothers loosens their grip on their 'Creative Folks' and lets them tell the stories without the 'number crunchers' telling the Director of Photography where to place his camera so they can sell more tickets overseas.
Just my opinion.
But I have a feeling the WB Execs will give Ben Affleck a bit more leeway when he writes & directs the next few Batman solo films.
Maybe not as much leeway as Nolan. But probably a lot more than Zach Snyder.
Time will tell.
