I'm old enough to remember old timers in the 80s saying Jordan wasn't shit. :angry: "All he can do is dunk, well back in my day...." My favorite is their 'watered down' arguments. Talk sheer numbers. Drawing from a pool of 180 million people in 1960(limited to the United States with a white player quota) compared to a pool that is in the fucking billions(it's been a global game for decades now).

Coaches spend hours on defensive schemes. Looking at computer images of where players like to shoot. Looking at the same images of where their players like the ball. Dealing with now having to guard cats the minute they cross half-court, but people don't know basketball no more. :eek:

I don't get why it's so common for old timers not to enjoy what they are witnessing. Glad I haven't got like that -- well only with music. :angry:

There is a big difference between the 80's and 90's and today and it starts when the players are coming up.

There was better coaching and teaching in youth basketball and that is the key....Has not as much to do with being a better athlete and more to do with understanding the game.

With the advent of national AAU and travel teams there is less teaching and more stacking.

In fact you have players today getting picked in the lottery that are projects and the keyword is upside.

That's why the league moved the 3 point line up to help scoring, made the no hand check rule in the 90's to help scoring, did all this stuff to help scoring because the players that were supposed to take the baton from the 80's guys failed miserably. That's why folks brag about the "physicality" to mask the fact offensively dudes sucked in the 90's. Today's players are waaaaaaay more versatile offensively and defensively. Cats like Detlef Schrempf, BJ Armstrong, Christian Laettner, and Vlade Divac were all stars in the 90's. :smh:
