HBO's 'Vinyl' Discussion Thread

Peace,

Funniest thing to me was that it was obviously a brother singing that song and they tried to affix it to a malnourished cac.

I had already heard the Trey Songz version of thst record last week. HBO put it on their YouTube page........ So I was wondering how they were going to incorporate that into the show. I didn't know they had real singers singing some of these songs. Like Charlie Wilson was doing some of Hannibals music if I'm not mistaken.

So I thought Trey Songz was going to be guest starring. What a horrible job of trying to have a actor sing a song lol. Sounded like Trey Songz and looked like Macalay Culkin.

i like the show but y'all are kinda right.. it' seems to be missing something

I think netflix is going to kill this with their new shoew"the get down"

no big deal since Trey Songs had a lot of digital help on that song... that mix engineer deserves a grammy!

yeah -the story telling is just a bit off somehow
its a master class on the music industry touching on the roots of RnB, rock, punk, hiphop and pop music
but something is missing

I think that the story telling is kind of lazy and unoriginal. For example, you could tell less than halfway through last night's ep that the German cat didn't really exist. There's no excuse for that shit.

Also, the characters are so under-developed that they don't generate enough interest. The writers rely more on stereotype than they should. They keep doing the same shit over and over. How many times are we going to see Richie get coked up and walk into a room doing that shimmy shit? It's like watching a hamster run on a wheel.

I thought it was sloppy until I saw the connections to Life On Mars- the TV show
we were supposed to feel he wasn't real within a scene or 2- its supposed to be off balance and weird but the eps director or editor just couldn't create the weirdness - they should have pulled an alum from Life on Mars in for the ep
I think you are expecting too much on character dev... its HBO and only ep 6 - it took 5 eps to meet Richie's father even though that actor has had star billing since ep 1... its going to be a long story here

That was clearly a black man singing at the end. It sounded like Marvin from Ray Donovan show. It most def wasn't the actor though

fucking druggie. no sympathy for him. ritchie. just digging the ditch now his wife finally left him she was ready to come back but you hanging out with dead men high as a kite.

its a wrap now.

I know it was the 70's but couldn't they have found a better wig to put on Olivia's poo poo?

I couldn't believe that shit. It wasn't even believable. And then it seems like he's going to be a reoccurring character....what are they gonna get Trey Songz every time its time for this dude to sing? :lol Unbelievable. I tried to suspend belief........Vinyl is a great show but certain things....either they don't give a single fuck about or they just sloppy.

and check the comments dtown lol white people are MAD that he covered this song lol. i love it i think im going to put this on a cd and play it at work

People not gonna like this....I actually like Trey's version better lol. Not saying its better. But i'd rather listen to it. The comments have me dying lol......i'm shocked their's not more dislikes....seems like its getting nice reception.

I don't even like Trey like that.........pretty good cover though.

well i mean i think they just said fuck it on that one. but it ain't the 1st time black voices been fueling white careers man lol they used to do that shit heavy from like the beginning of america till around the 1950's lol

Yea his version was captivating. I was getting tired of the shit man i was like ok ritchie is high and going into madness we get it. lets get some other action going. ray romano flexed up and shit i was like ok we getting somewhere. she took the kids im like ok we here now... sidenote. his wife got naked way too quickly man. she was a thot.

but then the music comes on and im like damn this is smooth. then im like wait this is better than smooth this is sweet... then he hit them notes im like wait this ain't sweet this is hard.

then i was like TOO HARD this ain't him this is a black guy lol

just listened. the thing that put bowie's over the top is the extra production. I'd like to hear trey with the same production and the background double vocals singing with him too i bet id get the same feeling.

this one is soothing and melancholy. bowie's goes from melancholy to kinda rock opera in the same song so its still better.

Yeah and the range Trey's version has. I'd like to hear the song with his produced and Trey's vocals. Its a damn good cover though.

I don't know if its intended but his wife ain't shit either. Like she's just as bad as him.

If not worse.

Peace,

As soon as I saw this thread get bumped, I knew somebody was coming in with the pussy and titties from last week's ep.

this last episode was shit...you know something great is about to happen w/ the label...but they're stalling too much...and not bcuz it makes for a good story but bcuz the network wants/has another season...they need to rename the show cocaine...getting tired of the lead actor like someone said every other scene seems to be him doing a line...making that stupid face then shimmying into a fucking room lol...I'm very interested in the nasty bits subplot...they should spend a lil bit more time w/ that...dude's wife/kids are expendable characters...didn't need an entire ep tryna make them out to be more than that

imo you should expect a lil bit more in a 10 season ep that goes on hiatus for a year...I'm not saying they need to put all their shit on the table 1st season...just feels like stalling tho

jack of all trades...master of none...they're trying to do too much and the story is getting stretched thin bcuz of it...and I really hope this ep is the end of him using coke @ least for a reasonable while...we fucking get it...dude has a fucking coke habit and it's ruining him...please let this be his rock bottom moment and allow the show to progress now
