Quentin Tarantino joins protest against police brutality in New York City

Quentin Tarantino joined hundreds of demonstrators in New York City on Saturday at a protest against police brutality across the country.

“I’m a human being with a conscience,” said Tarantino, who flew in from California for the event, according to the Associated Press. “If you believe there’s murder going on then you need to rise up and stand up against it. I’m here to say I’m on the side of the murdered.”

The group gathered in Washington Square Park before marching about two miles up Sixth Avenue, the AP reports, with some demonstrators shouting stories over microphones and others waving signs with photos. It was the last of three demonstrations organized in New York this week by the group RiseUpOctober, and speakers at the event said they want to bring justice for people killed by police.

The rally came just four days after a New York police officer, Randolph Holder, was shot to death while pursuing a bicycle thief. When asked about the timing of Saturday’s demonstation, Tarantino told the New York Post, “It’s unfortunate timing, but we’ve flown in all these families to go and tell their stories . . . That cop that was killed, that’s a tragedy, too.”

The only reasons white people come to marches are because they're fun, they're cool, and it helps them look non racist.

NONE of that applies here. This white nigga rich as hell, one of most powerful folk in Hollyhood, his all time crush is Pam Grier, he used to idolize Superfly, his mom dated black guys, he hangs out with Rza making music, best friends with Sam Jackson and got half his writing skills from watching old Blaxploitation flicks since he was a kid...

If any other white nigga at the top of his game could make a stronger statement than him - I WISH THEY WOULD STEP UP...

Publicity stunting. Making sure his black audience come back to see his next movie like they did Django Unchained when Hateful 8 drops in December. He ain't slick.

All the while crying to the media just last week about how it's "difficult to be white male director in Hollywood":rolleyes:

I'm a big Tarantino fan but even I can see that he fetishizes black people and culture.

While it is a strong statement for somone of his caliber to do this and I applaud him stepping out there putting his face in the movement. I can't shake the fact this has ulterior motives behind it to benefit him more than being ginuine concern. Especially with it so close to release date of his movie.

I mean I haven't heard of him speaking out or joining marches about police all year. Maybe I missed it. Why now all of a sudden?

At the expense of offending his larger cac audience?

Math dont add up.

I dont trust any of these people but theres really no bottomline benefit for QT joining this open protest. Its more likely that his efforts are sincere.

Police have already started a boycott campaign for all his shit.

breh...unless you make niche stuff like tyler perry...catering to a black audience makes no financial sense....

hence why the vast majority of movies put out cater to white males...

tarrantino is one of the biggest directors in the world...people will watch his shit reagardless....

none of his movies were made for a black audience

Exactly.
I'm not buying this because I believe this is about guaranteeing that blacks will not complain when he calls us "******" in his movies... :hmm:

Don't think it's much about the n word cuz he's been using that in his film.

He trying to warm hearts by looking like he "keeping it real".

Best way to drum up support for himself, inspire people to return the favor and go see his movie.

Like I said its publicity and press.

Not putting money directly in his pocket but indirectly it is.

Cheap way to get press attention.

Bottom line is more butts in seats opening day.

Tarantino knows his fans. Nice size but dedicated fanbase.

The cac audience was largely against Django Unchained but Tarantino fans show up no matter what that's why Django did well.

Not my argument bruh.

Never said his films were about catering to a black audience.

See my last reply.

Yet he says '******' in every movie w the strong -ER and in pulp fiction what seemed to be no reason. I'm a Tarantino fan but I ain't gonna act like he the black savior. What about all the celebrities at the million man march

Exactly...white audiences made him rich, not us. He can afford to be honest, while most of black star power is just trying not to offend their jewish bosses so they can get/keep that good job..

He's in love with his own publicity, positive, negetive whatever it is.He has realize that it helps sell himself which reflects in at the box office.

I know I'm just a lurker here, but I needed to chime in on this as a black man. This whole thing about genuine concern doesn't matter. We have been lending our genuine concern to other groups for years instead of selectively lending our support to causes which will further our own. At the same time we have been rejecting support from those who are not black who attempt to attach themselves to our movement because they aren't black. Yet we let Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson be the faces of our causes when they do not resonate with the power structure.

When Hollywood gets involved it gets results (ask the gays). We need to embrace this type of support when it is offered if for no other reason than the white power structure listens to them more than they listen to us.

They are calling an anti-police brutality march an anti-cop march...how fucking stupid and naive are people to think that speaking out against a bad cop means you hate all cops.

will hold my judgement til later... I agree with sm of yalls theory on this tho

Who's rejecting support? Just calling it what it is.

Ginuine concern does matter because that determines if this is just a passing fad for his movie publicity or if he will continue to show support after the march is over.

No ones rejecting the support and I'm all for Hollywood stars bringing visibility to the movement. But that doesn't mean we don't recognize how they will use the movement to their own advantage in the press to hawk whatever their selling.

Like I said before I haven't heard him say anything before this so we'll see if this support is real and will continue after the release of his film.

I'm not a big fan of Tarantino, but I'm glad he did something to shake up the cult of the TEFLON BLUE WALL of Racist PIG. I'm happy the cops are scrambling and doing damage control.

first thing I thought

And gives him a pass to say the N word 1000 times during his films even in scenes where it's not even condusive and doesn't make sense to the convo.. Mofos just spit the shit out like they have torets syndrome

I hear what you're saying about genuine concern and I didn't mean to come off like I was throwing accusations at anybody particular. I'm just saying that there always seems to be a bunch of us who get on our militant soap box screaming that so & so isn't committed to the movement. The truth is that if it's not your movement, you are not committed, period.

But it's like a food drive for the homeless. We are not out here raising food for the homeless everyday, because we're not homeless, but we might come out once or twice a year to do it because in that moment we care. That doesn't mean the homeless should reject our help because we're not committed full time.

He may not be committed tomorrow, but he might create a trend and bring out other celebrities, then he'll be committed because that will be the cool thing to be. I'm just saying we cannot rob ourselves of the opportunities to have those kinds of outcomes (as unlikely as they may be) by driving support away, no matter how fleeting.

I'm not against him showing support at all, I'm not saying that he shouldn't be there even if it's only for a day.

What I'm saying is I'm skeptical of his reason for being there, even if his celeb status does benefit the movement in some way.

The timing is too coincidental not to be strategic toward the benefit of selling his movie.

If I only help to feed homeless people twice a year and that twice a year was only at or around the time I was releasing a new movie. Would you say I cared about feeding the homeless more than I did about exploiting homeless to bolster support for my movie? Even tho what I was doing was still good.

you really have no sense or understanding.

ever since we have been here and in a struggle there have been white allies.

long before you and social media.

and they didn't look good cause the people watching looked like them.

Stop typing and read a book.. White folks helped Harriet Tubman while her husband was threatening to tell master.

Before there was Johnny Cochran there was William Kunstler.

So go on somewhere with that misinformation cause it don't make you militant or down for the cause ,it makes you sound stupid

why do you think he needs a pass ?

a pass from who ?

ain't like we jews and will put out financial power together to for power.

This is the shit that people need to understand. Unfortunately, people would rather retreat into their social media groups where it's promoted that white help isn't needed in a majority white society.

Shit, cacs have Internet access too. If they going to catch shit publicly AND privately from white people for taking a stand, what happens when they see e-militants taking shots at them?

Why would they even get involved?

A lot of the white people who were Abolitionists or in Civil Rights might not even have wanted black neighbors, but they fought against injustices regardless. When dealing with white help, it's about the bigger goal and the lesser of two evils.

The ignorance is dangerous. Folks are just giving people who are benefiting from injustice more reason to just stay quiet.

I would say it doesn't matter if you care. It would only matter that you presented to the public that you care, and that they should also. Our society is one of sheep (I know you understand this), so to have one of it's leaders (in any capacity) to advocate for the movement is only good, no matter how self serving.

Interesting perspective

Never saw that way.
