Hellraiser is a 1987 British horror film written and directed by Clive Barker, based on his own novella The Hellbound Heart.[1] The film spawned a series of sequels. The film involves the resurrection of Frank (Sean Chapman), who had opened the door to an alternate dimension and had his body torn to pieces by creatures known as Cenobites. Years later, Frank's brother Larry (Andrew Robinson) moves into Frank's abandoned house with his daughter, Kirsty (Ashley Laurence), and his new wife, Julia (Clare Higgins). An accident causes some of Larry's blood to spill on the attic floor, which somehow triggers Frank's resurrection. To complete his resurrection, he requires more blood which Julia provides while Kirsty discovers Frank's puzzlebox which leads her to meet with the Cenobites.

seen hell raiser once seen nightmare a shitload of times...kreuger character is legendary comedic horror..pinhead is nuts but i like kreuger better..my pick nightmare

While Hallraiser may be the "scarier" of the 2 I prefer NOES.

I can watch Freddy anytime it comes on TV. Hellraiser usually serves as background noise. Now that I think about it I never actually watch a Hellraiser movie all the way through.

hellraiser kinda bored me...nothing gonna top nightmare part 4

For me, it's Hellraiser all the way. Hellraiser was more intellectual to me. It's one of those "Be careful what you wish for" stories.

I read "The Hellbound Heart" along with several other Clive Barker novels. He knows how to tell a good story.

Fixed:yes: As for which one is better I'd say it's NOES 10/10 times, Hellraiser is good but in the end he's just an S&M freak:lol:

sorry dude part 4>>>>>>>>>>>>>over all other nightmares...must i do the recap...turning the chick into a roach, sucking the air out the broad, the whole keep doin the samething over and over again..plus he had mad kills in that flick..mad kills classic deaths part 4 is the best..plus it's the only 1 i seen at the movies..still the funniest shit ever convincing my aunt to take me and my older cuzz to see it..when that nig suck the air out the chick me and my cuzz was dying my aunt looks over at us and was like what the heck did i bring u guys to watch..the utter shock on her face was classic:lol::lol:

"Glorious, is it not? The creatures who walk its surface, always looking to the light, never seeing the untold oceans of darkness beyond. There are more humans alive today than in all of its pitiful history. The Garden of Eden. A garden of flesh." - Pinhead

100% cosign.
I also read The Hellbound Heart after I saw the movie. (An excellent story, by the way.)
The book really fleshes out the characters much more.

And as much as I like Freddy Krueger, he's lost much of his fear factor these days. Yes; he's more of a horror movie icon than Pinhead, but the last handful of movies in the NOES series were all about seeing Freddy say & do comical shit.

My choice: Hellraiser

"We have such sights to show you..."

You're 110% correct.
The subsequent sequels after the 1st (2) Hellraiser films were pure trash.:hmm:

But the fact that any original horror movie that is well received does not always translate into continued success in the sequels.

Examples:
The Exorcist
Friday The 13th
Halloween
The Howling
Pumpkin Head
Scanners
Aliens
Jaws
Candyman
Leprechan
American Werewolf in Paris

Neither Hellraiser nor NOES were exempt from this same truth unfortunately...:smh:

Hellraiser was better than Nightmare. Now if you throw in Nightmare, Dream Warriors vs Hellraiser 2 that's a serious competition.

two good horror films
but I prefer Hellraiser
the metaphysics/pseudoscience and the visualizations in the storyline
was intriguing

I agree, but I would replace Dream Warriors with Freddy's Revenge.

Hellraiser 2 was an excellent sequel! One of the best horror sequels. When the Doctor did the skinless Julia that just recently returned from hell:smh::puke:

I actually liked the Dream Warriors over Dream Master. I thought Dream Warriors was the last good NOES sequel, and that Dream Master was the last watchable sequel. After that it was utter trash with Dream Child and Freddy's Dead.

The sleep walking scene in Dream Warriors may be one of the illest scenes in the NOES series. Also the head coming out the top of the TV.

Freddy's Revenge was scary for other reasons. (Lots of innuendo going on in that movie)

Freddy walking down the alley way with the stretched out arms in the original made me cut the movie off during an acid trip about 16-17 years ago.

Yes that was ill as hell! The TV death was real cool too. I like the "Let's get high" death:yes:

Man I was 7 or 8 years old and saw the original NOES on VHS. That was back in the day when it took a year or more for movies to come home for home video. The whole movie was scary to me, but that part right there when Freddy had the arms stretched stayed with me for the longest!:smh:

Man great minds think alike. I was JUST ABOUT to post this scene. Saw this in the movies and when her track marks were opening and closing like mouths I was like......WTF?!?!?!?!?!

I can't watch that He'll raise shit:smh:
Freddy..I can watch but that's some sick shit to.
I think Freddy is more entertaining.

yeah 2 sucked real bad..in fact i seen that 1 the least amount of times out of all of them..only thing that stoodout the most was the schoolbus scene other than that fuck that wack shit..i agree part 4 was the last of the good sequels..5 and 6 were blah..but they still was better than 2
