Why reach out when they NEED the old heads? Why not reach out because they ARE the old heads? That's the problem. EVERYONE in hip-hop could be making money, the old school and the new school but these new school cats are on some "It's all about me" shit and it's not helpful because one day they will be the old school cats too.

its not about needing the old school cats its about respecting and acknowledging the forefathers of the music and culture. Thats how you preserve a culture. Todays cats should be referenceing and giving shine to the old school...its not like it would cost them anything to do it.

i get it , i jus think kendrick and cole were the wrong examples to use, hell kendrick had old ass mc eight on his first album, he was paying homage to a old school compton rapper, im sure as young as kendrick is his hip hop history knowdledge is great

I think the two things are mutually exclusive.
Of course the architects need to be respected, supported and incorporated into projects by the new generations that prospered from their efforts, but lets not forget Iggy Azalea. I'm sure that Mack peeped what happened to her and figured he'd better cover his ass because he knew he would keep receiving scrutiny. My very first thoughts a week ago and few seconds into hearing that song on iTunes was that Mack was covering his ass. Theres lots of "ass covering" in the music industry (no homo).

You know what I mean bro, not "street" street cred, but respect in gerneral from the underground or purist hip hop community. Ironically I was thinking more on an international level more than domestic. International "hip hop" fans are incredibly discerning and snobbish. France, Japan and Switzerland is a prime example. Respect = Longevity for rappers.
