After watching the rest of the show, it is evident that what happen to Phil is supposed to be a montage or is to be symbolic of what most men go through in the different stages of being married.. His behavior may seem kind of silly to some, especially those who were never married or never lived with a female, only because what they did was break down what usually would happen in ten years in to a week or so.
In actuality the show should be called, how to avoid being a simp, because they break down shit that many married guys go through and how they wind up being converted into simps.. Here are my breakdowns of the rules he failed to follow..
1- Never be pressured into getting married, even if you believe that its the right thing to do, or if thats the last good pussy you'd get, or you don't want to hurt her feelings, if thats your reasons to do it... Just say no
2- Its not that serious, wanna bet, most guys don't realize how serious it is, until years later (or in his case, the same day) when the girl of your dreams show up and you blow it due to that ring on your finger..
3- Yo if you got to jack, you better get that pussy when that pussy is there for the taking.. Not saying you should do it, but if you should you need to know that when you are married many times there will be only one chance to get that pussy blow it and you'd never see it again..
4- Timing, timing, timing... Yo, timing is everything, if you are too thirsty you'd are likely to do shit, way before you are ready and with out thinking..
Plus it would push good pussy away.. If your timing is too slow, well refer to number 3..
5-Not a rule but you have to understand, you never see a real woman until after you fuck her and marry her... Notice how ol girl whipped out a can of beans after they fucked...

One thing I find really funny that most people miss, is that Phil is the only one there acting normal, well at least normal under the circumstances... To me, Last man on earth is the most funniest show to take on the subject of marriage from a man's perspective, since married with children..
