Detroit police say two bodies were found in a freezer in an east Detroit apartment complex. Detroit police say two bodies were found in a freezer in an east Detroit apartment complex.
The Detroit Police Department said investigators are at an apartment complex on Detroit's east side where two bodies have been found inside a freezer.

Police were called to an apartment in the 800 block of St. Aubin Street, which is near Lafayette Central Park Tuesday morning.

Originally, police announced they had found one woman's body. Shortly after FOX 2 arrived on scene, police updated and said that there were two bodies found inside the freezer.

Police have not identified the victims and have not released further information. Detroit Police say the two victims are a 14-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy. Police have the mother in custody and are calling her a 'person of interest'.

Detroit police said the two children were found inside a plastic bag inside the freezer. Police said the bodies had been there for "some time" and were only discovered when a bailiff arrived to evict the mother.

Police have the mother in custody. The child's father is not in the picture.

No weapons were found in the home and the cause of death is still being determined

Detroit Police Chief James Craig said the mother was taken into custody after an apartment resident informed officers she was staying with someone at a different home inside the complex, according to the Detroit News.

Craig said the mother is a person of interest in the investigation.

Neighbors say she is Mitchelle Blair, 35, and that she goes by Angel, WXYZ Detroit reported.

Blair describes herself as 'Loyal to my babies' on her Facebook page.

On January 30, the posted a photo with a message.

It read: 'There is no greater blessing than being called MOM.'

Before she was taken into custody, the mother reportedly said her son was raped and that the sexual assault had been carried out by his siblings.

Police have not confirmed that is the case and it is unclear if she was talking about the boy who was found in the freezer.

She filed a paternity suit in 1999 which resulted in a man being ordered to pay child support.

Blair filed another suit in 2007 against another man which had the same result.

She had not been charged as of Tuesday evening.

Assistant Chief Steve Dolunt said it appeared the bodies had been in the freezer for 'over a year' and that the mother had been living in the apartment 'with other children while the bodies were in the freezer'.

'This is a terrible situation,' he said.

According to Craig, Blair has two other children, aged 11 and 17, who are unharmed and currently in 'protective custody'.

No weapons were discovered after the apartment was searched and police do not yet have a motive.

I think suspicion should popped up with this detail. What 14 year old girl or 11 year old boy doesn't have friends? Were they in school...where are the calls from the faculty questioning why the kids aren't in school? There were other children there? Why didn't they say or do anything? Not talking about your mother's drinking is one thing, but not talking about your dead brother/sister bagged up in a freezer to someone...

Prosecutors said Bowman killed them while the family was living in Rockville and took the freezer with her when the family moved first to Charles County and later to Lusby, in Calvert County.

Per a neighbors comments, she'd told others that the children had moved away to live with other family members.
They're saying those children had been in the freezer for a least a year. :smh:

A sheriff's bailiff was conducting an eviction at Michelle Blair's townhouse at the Martin Luther King Apartments Tuesday when the bodies were discovered.

Detroit Police tell FOX 2 Blair has confessed to killing her two children. DPD says, according to the confession, the 11-year-old boy has been dead since 2012 and the 14-year-old girl has been dead for at least a year.

Investigators will have a better timeline as they wait on the medical examiner, who is waiting for the bodies to thaw before conducting the autopsy. Police say the bodies were not dismembered, and were found wrapped in blankets in a standalone freezer.

Chief Craig said in the news conference the autopsies are expected to be conducted within the next day.

Police say Blair has been "very cooperative", and is only charged with child abuse at this time. Further charges are pending while the medical examiner's report is being completed.

Before the confession, police say numerous neighbors and family friends say Blair had told them she killed her children. It is unclear if those people knew the children were still inside the home.

Blair was not home at the time of the eviction. Detroit Police Chief James Craig says a neighbor gave police her whereabouts, and they were able to detain Blair for further investigation.

Police say Blair said she caught her children sexually abusing another sibling. Blair has two other children, who have been placed in protective custody.

Another update to the news story. Damn:smh:

Source says Detroit mom killed children after sexual assaults on younger sibling
New revelations about the Detroit mother accused of killing her two children and then putting them in a freezer for more than a year indicate the mom was angered after discovering the two children were committing sexual assault.

WARNING: Details in this story are graphic and may be hard for some readers.

Police arrested the mother Tuesday after the gruesome discovery was made that morning. A bailiff was at the house to evict the woman. She was not inside when the bailiff was there. While in the home, the bailiff found the bodies of an 11-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl inside a freezer.

Mitchelle Blair, 35, admits to killing her two kids and then hiding their bodies in her freezer. 13-year-old Stoni Ann Blair and 9-year-old Stephen Gage Berry were found dead inside a freezer in the townhome on the east side of Detroit. Stoni would be 15 today, Stephen would be 11.

Outside the home on Wednesday, messages of love and prayers were left for the two young children while neighbors say she was living a lie.

On Wednesday, a police source told FOX 2's Erika Erickson that the children were trying to sexually assault their younger brother.

According to the same source, the mother told them "I am not evil. It was just an evil act".

The now 8-year-old boy and his 17-year-old sister are both now in protective custody. Friends say the children may have known what Blair had done but were too afraid to say anything.

Sources say Blair pulled her children out of school years ago because she wanted to home school them. She reportedly told family and friends, who hadn't seen Stoni or Stephen in awhile, that they were "doing mean things" to their younger brother like taking his food and "raping him," so she sent them away.

Blair, according to sources, says she confronted Stephen in August of 2012 and he admitted to the sexual acts. That's when sources say she put the then 9-year-old in scalding water, resulting in his death. The source said she wrapped him in his "favorite blanket," and put him in the freezer.

Just 9 months later, in May 2013, sources say Blair discovered Stoni sexually assaulting the younger brother. She snapped. Sources say Blair admits to starving and abusing Stoni for a week before strangling her with a shirt and suffocating her. Then she wrapped her in a garbage bag and placed her on top of Stephen, the source said.

On Wednesday, Blair was charged with four counts of child abuse and one count of committing child abuse in the presence of another felony. She faces life in prison. She'll be arraigned Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, outside the house of horrors, neighbors and friends remain in shock about what was happening inside.

Was just talking about mothers who do this kind of stuff yesterday. :smh:

"Loyal to my babies" :smh:

The scary thing about humans, they can do some of the most heinous and ugly things without malice.

I knew a girl who would call herself the best mother in the world who doesn't even want her own child.

This story is very creepy.

Why the charges seem light? It say she face life but she need murderer attached to her name not just them child abuse charges.

They only did that to have a reason to hold her until they can complete the autopsies. Murder charges will soon follow.

Dad putting a kid in the oven and a mom putting kids in the freezer. What the fuck is next? I know you can't forcefully sterilize people, but I'm willing to have the conversation.

Bitch probably is making up the sexual assault story to justify the shit she did. She needs to suffer for a looong time

It's been discussed on the board before, but mental illness in the black community is rampant. Postpartum depression in women is on the rise, and when you see shit like this, it only exposes the fact that it is ignored and/or misdiagnosed...

Correct
Autopsies have not been performed, but the children have been identified as Blair's children Stoni Ann Blair and Stephen Gage Berry, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced.

"Once the autopsy results come back and further investigation is done we will be re-evaluating the case for other possible charges," Maria Miller, a spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office, said.

Cops: Woman says boy, girl killed to stop abuse
Detroit — For more than a year, the two children in apartment No. 804 of the Martin Luther King Apartments lived with a terrible family secret: The bodies of their brother and sister were hidden inside a large freezer in the living room, police and family say.

The 8-year-old boy and 17-year-old girl are trying to make sense of it, said their great-aunt, Angela Gordon, who is caring for them. Police say their mother, Mitchelle Blair, admitted she killed 9-year-old Stephen Berry and 13-year-old Stoni Blair after she discovered they had been molesting a young relative, two police sources familiar with the case said Wednesday.

"Pray for those children," Gordon, a retired Detroit police child abuse investigator, said of the surviving siblings. "They saw things nobody should ever have to see. I have no idea what it was like for them to live with those bodies all that time. I can't even imagine."

Wayne County prosecutors charged Blair on Wednesday with four counts of first-degree child abuse, a 15-year felony; and one count of committing child abuse first-degree in the presence of another child, a felony punishable by up to life in prison.

Blair is to be arraigned at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in 36th District Court.

"The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office is continuing the investigation regarding the deaths of Stoni Blair and (Stephen) Berry while waiting for the autopsy report from the Wayne County Medical Examiner," Assistant Prosecutor Maria Miller said in a statement issued to reporters.

Blair told detectives she killed her son two years ago, and her daughter in 2014, after she said she learned of the sexual abuse, two sources said. Prosecutors said Stoni would be 15 now and Stephen would be 11.

Ryan Bridges, a spokesman for the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office, said in an email that autopsies were tentatively scheduled for Thursday, "as the bodies are still frozen."

Police are awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death. Sources said it appears the boy died of strangulation and the girl from blunt-force trauma.

The Detroit News is not disclosing the identity of the relative who was allegedly molested, nor naming Blair's surviving kids.

"Whether I end up with them or someone else does, they're going to need a lot of counseling," said Gordon, 58, Blair's aunt.

Gordon said Blair had cut off contact with the rest of the family, which is why nobody noticed Stephen and Stoni were missing.

"We had such a tumultuous relationship," Gordon said of her niece. "She was always calling for help; she needed food, money. I told her she had to get a job and take care of her family. That was the time when she cut everyone off and we didn't hear from her."

Gordon said Blair had sporadic jobs, but they never lasted long. "I think she worked in a bar for a while," she said. "She dropped out of school in the 10th grade; what was out there for her? I begged her to go back to school, but she wouldn't. I took care of those kids, basically. She'd run out of food stamps, and she'd call me."

When asked whether Blair was homeschooling her children, as neighbors said she claimed, Gordon scoffed. "Yeah, right. With a 10th-grade education?"

Gordon added the children were enrolled in the Ralph Bunche Preparatory Academy, formerly Duffield Elementary School, until Blair pulled them out of school two years ago.

"I worked on a lot of bad cases," said Gordon, a 26-year police veteran. "But even if this wasn't family, this is as bad as anything I ever worked on."

Blair left high school while pregnant with her oldest child, Stoni's sister, said Tracey Dorsey of Detroit, the aunt of the girls. Her brother is their father and was a classmate, she said.

He strived to stay in his kids' lives and supported them after his relationship with Blair ended, but "she got in the way," Tracey Dorsey said. "Every time she talked to him it was about money. … It was always an argument."

Their father said he hadn't seen or spoken with Stoni in more than a year, his sister said. "The only way we could talk to them was through the phone, and that was only sometimes."

When he tried to speak with the teen, either her older sister or mother "would tell him Stoni was not there or she was always gone somewhere," Tracey Dorsey said, adding the girls had also stopped attending family reunions.

Now, with news of the slaying, "we're taking it hard," she said. "It's crazy. We didn't think she killed her… We didn't think she'd do this."

Dorsey said her family doesn't buy what Blair alleges about molestation and hopes she remains imprisoned "for life… She doesn't need to come out at all."

Detroit Police Chief James Craig briefly discussed the case at a press conference Wednesday morning at police headquarters.

"While the desire to know what happened in that home is strong, I will ask you to be mindful of the two children who were in that home and are still alive," Craig told reporters.

Blair was arrested Tuesday in the Martin Luther King Apartments on the city's near east side, where court bailiffs discovered the bodies while removing the freezer from the woman's townhouse. She had been ordered evicted for nonpayment of rent.

"The alleged facts in this case present examples of why we must all be diligent and involved citizens," Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a statement. "A good way to protect society's children is to be alert and look out for your neighborhood youth, refuse to look the other way, and report what you know when necessary. Even though we are issuing these charges today, this tragic case remains under investigation."
