Heat-Nuggets Preview
STATS LLC

Denver Nuggets coach Brian Shaw wishes he could give Ty Lawson a break after the point guard logged a considerable amount of minutes in the past two games.

Given the number of injuries plaguing the roster, Shaw doesn't have the luxury of giving any of his players much of a rest.

Denver looks to avoid a fifth consecutive defeat Wednesday night when it hosts a Miami Heat team nearing the end of a five-game road trip.

Lawson played nearly 44 minutes and was 1 for 10 from the field in Sunday's 96-84 loss to Atlanta before scoring 22 points in more than 49 minutes the following night in a 112-107 overtime defeat against Toronto.

The Nuggets (9-12) went 0-3 on their trip, with Kenneth Faried (back), JaVale McGee (leg) and Nate Robinson (back) missing the final two. Shaw had only 10 players Monday, forcing Timofey Mozgov (49), Wilson Chandler (47) and Arron Afflalo (44) into extended minutes.

"I had to play those guys a ton of minutes to try and salvage this trip and try to get one game," Shaw said. "We just (couldn't) overcome that."

Lawson tried to brush off the notion that the heavy workload could hinder him down the road, but admitted Monday that the Nuggets "had no legs" in the fourth quarter.

Shaw attributes that to Denver consistently having to overcome deficits after playing sloppy in the first half. The Nuggets have been behind by double digits at halftime in each of their last three.

"It's been a problem for us all season. We dig a hole for ourselves and don't start defending until the second half," Shaw said. "We have to bring that desperation right from the beginning of the game."

Denver's skid began with a 105-103 loss to Portland on Dec. 2 that ended a four-game home win streak, and it will look to bounce back against a Heat team coming off a much-needed win.

Miami (10-11) had lost four straight by an average of 17.8 points before beating Phoenix 103-97 on Tuesday. Chris Bosh scored a season-high 34 points to go with nine rebounds and a season-best four steals, while Luol Deng added 23 points.

"There were a couple times they were able to get the lead up to five and, unfortunately, in previous games that tended to go double figures," coach Erik Spoelstra said. "But we were able to execute, stay in the moment and show more toughness than we have in the last handful of games."

Dwyane Wade scored 16 points on 7-of-15 shooting, ending his streak of making at least 50 percent at 11 games as he battled through a headache.

The Heat have averaged 89.2 points over their previous five.

"That was mostly the reason I came out aggressive in the second half," said Bosh, who finished 14 of 21 from the field. "I was going to do it anyway, but when (Wade) let me know (about the headache) I said I'd see what I can do, get some buckets and get the team going offensively."

Denver had lost three straight to Miami before a 111-107 victory in the most recent meeting March 14.

Josh McRoberts has torn meniscus
By Michael Wallace

MIAMI -- An already injury-riddled Heat team absorbed two significant blows Monday, with Josh McRoberts likely lost for the season to a right knee injury and All-Star center Chris Bosh sidelined indefinitely with a strained calf.

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra announced the status of both players after Monday's practice, a session in which the team had just eight players available in advance of Tuesday's game in Brooklyn. The Heat also could be without star guard Dwyane Wade, who missed Monday's practice with a stomach virus.

"Injuries are a part of this game -- how you respond to adversities, to things that are tough, that's what reveals your collective character as a group," Spoelstra said. "I told the guys there will be brighter days. It always usually evens out at the end. We're being hit pretty strong with the injury bug right now."

The Heat (11-13) are off to their worst start in Spoelstra's seven seasons as coach and now face the challenge of moving forward for the next several weeks with a severely depleted roster. McRoberts, one of the team's top free-agent additions this past summer after the departure of LeBron James, is scheduled for surgery to repair a torn meniscus within the next few days.

McRoberts injured the knee late in the fourth quarter of the Heat's win in Phoenix last Tuesday when he fell awkwardly to the court while pursuing a loose ball. He played in 17 games this season and averaged 4.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists, but had been recovering from one injury or another since he signed a four-year, $23 million deal with the Heat in July. He had toe surgery in the offseason and was also limited through the initial months of the season with foot and back injuries.

"You have to fight yourself from [feeling sorry]," Spoelstra said after McRoberts' tear was confirmed following an MRI on Monday. "It was a kick to the gut when we heard about Josh. You feel for him more than anything, because he wanted to come in here and contribute. And you started to see flashes of it."

The Heat aren't certain when Bosh will be healthy enough to return. Miami's leading scorer and rebounder, Bosh felt his left calf tighten after the Heat's victory in Utah on Saturday, and he was held out of Sunday's blowout loss at home against Chicago. Until then, Bosh had been the only starter to play in every game of the season for the Heat, who have used 10 different lineups through 24 games.

Bosh was on the practice court Monday but was limited to free throw shooting. He did not travel with the team to Brooklyn on Monday afternoon, with Spoelstra saying Bosh would focus on rest and treatment for the immediate future. Bosh did not speak to the media after Monday's practice, but he said Sunday night that he would err on the side of caution as he recovers from the strain.

"It's a wear-and-tear thing that kind of sprung up on me," said Bosh, who is averaging 21.6 points and 8.2 rebounds. "It just seems to be a dark cloud over everything right now. Everything seems to be tough. You have to find a way to deal with the tough times right now, find out a way to keep everybody mentally stimulated around here. I'm going to make sure I do what's necessary to get back."

The lack of continuity has had a crippling effect on the Heat, whose preferred starting lineup of Bosh, McRoberts, Wade, Norris Cole and Luol Deng has played only a total of 34 minutes this season. Despite those initial struggles, Miami was hoping to use an upcoming, seven-game homestand -- highlighted by the Christmas Day visit from James and the Cavaliers -- to gain some traction.

That process grows even more daunting in light of the recent rash of injuries and ailments.

"It's a big blow," Heat guard Mario Chalmers said Monday. "Hopefully things can't get no worse."

Spoelstra said he would meet with team president Pat Riley and general manager Andy Elisburg to figure out what personnel options the Heat might consider to supplement the roster. Riley, Elisburg and team CEO Nick Arison watched Monday's practice as Spoelstra tried to work with just eight players.

Earlier Monday, the Heat recalled first-round draft pick Shabazz Napier and journeyman center Hassan Whiteside from their D-League affiliate. Spoelstra said Napier and Whiteside would meet the team in Brooklyn for Tuesday's game. The injury situation could also force the Heat to get more active in potential trade talks, with free agents who signed this past summer becoming trade-eligible on Monday.

The Heat may be eligible to apply for an injured player's exception from the league if McRoberts is indeed ruled out for the season. The team will have a better assessment of his status after surgery.

"We'll talk quite a bit," Spoelstra said of discussions with the front-office staff. "We have the best in the business [sitting] over there. So we'll meet. My focus right now is on who we're bringing to Brooklyn."

Well as long as Wade is ready for that Christmas Day game, they should be straight

Man they are better off with Bosh and no Wade... Wade can still put up the points, but Bosh can do so much more and keeps the paint a lot more honest, with out him teams can really pack the paint daring Wade to either shoot outside or challenge the teeth of the defense..
Hopefully Bosh will be back soon..

team no better than the nets right now...fuck y'all

Well that's a timely statement...which leads directly into the post I was coming to make...

Heat-Nets Preview
STATS LLC

The injury-plagued Miami Heat were blown out in their first game without Chris Bosh, who won't travel to face the Brooklyn Nets.

Things could become all the more rocky if Dwyane Wade is also sidelined.

Wade is listed as questionable due to an illness, potentially leaving Miami without its two best players Tuesday night.

The Heat (11-13) were outscored 58-30 in the second and third quarters in Sunday's 93-75 loss to Chicago, falling to 2-6 in December. Wade and Luol Deng scored 17 points apiece for Miami, which was limited to a season-worst 35.0 percent shooting with Bosh out due to a strained left calf.

"A guy like Chris is irreplaceable," said Wade, who missed seven games earlier this season with a strained left hamstring. "All we ask for and hope for is he can get back as soon as he can when he's healthy."

It's unclear how much time Bosh could miss. He's averaging team highs of 21.6 points and 8.2 rebounds, while Wade is scoring 21.1 per game.

"It really (stinks) that it's hitting me right now, it's like there's a dark cloud over everything," Bosh said. "Everything seems to be tough, we're having a tough time building the chemistry because we haven't had many minutes together. In the midst of all that, everybody's trying to figure everything out. So we just have to just stay strong and keep our head above water and try to figure out how to win some games."

The news got worse Monday, when Josh McRoberts was diagnosed with a torn meniscus that has ended his season. Second-year center Justin Hamilton, who's started the last three games, could also be held out with a quad injury.

"We're just trying to find an identity, find some consistency with that in an inconsistent landscape," a frustrated coach Erik Spoelstra said. "But who cares? That's just the hand we've been dealt right now."

The Heat pulled out a 95-83 victory at Brooklyn on Nov. 17 in the teams' first meeting since Miami beat the Nets in five games in last season's Eastern Conference semifinals. Mario Chalmers led the way with 22 points in last month's victory with Wade and Deng on the sidelines.

Brooklyn (10-12) has followed a three-game losing streak with back-to-back wins, 88-70 over Philadelphia on Friday and 114-87 at Charlotte on Saturday. Joe Johnson had 22 points to lead a season-high seven players in double figures for the Nets, who shot a season-best 58.3 percent.

Brooklyn hasn't won three in a row since April 4-8.

Deron Williams had 18 points and registered 10 assists for the second straight game. Brooklyn finished with a season-high 29 assists while shooting 16 of 23 from 3-point range.

"That shows that we moving the ball a little better from side-to-side," coach Lionel Hollins said.

While Johnson is averaging 19.1 points on the road, he's averaging just 9.8 on 34.8 percent shooting over the last six home games. Williams has scored a combined 24 while shooting 6 of 30 in the last three there.

Williams has been limited to an average of 10.1 points and 35.0 percent over a 11-game stretch against the Heat, including playoffs.

All-Star center Brook Lopez is likely to miss his fifth straight game due to a back injury. He's averaging 16.1 points, just behind Williams' team-best mark of 16.5.

Wade is averaging 24.0 points on 63.0 percent shooting in his last five regular-season matchups in the series. The Heat are 18-5 against the Nets since 2009-10, including playoffs.

Wizards-Heat Preview

With John Wall directing the offense, the Washington Wizards have been difficult to slow down while compiling their best record in over 35 years.

That certainly isn't a good sign for a Miami Heat team that has struggled to defend opponents on its own floor.

Wall and the Southeast Division-leading Wizards look to add to their longest winning streak of the season Friday night when they try to send Miami to its longest home losing streak in almost seven years.

After being named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the fourth time, Wall finished with 21 points and matched a career high with 17 assists in a 109-95 home win over Minnesota on Tuesday.

He had only three turnovers in what he described as his best performance as a Wizard. He's averaging a league-high 13.2 assists in December while ranking in the top 10 among starting point guards with a 3.13 assist-to-turnover ratio.

"I think he still has the best ahead of him," coach Randy Wittman said. "He deserved to win player of the week. I told him, `That's no big deal, you deserve it.' There's nothing surprising here, let's just keep doing it."

Behind Wall, the Wizards (18-6) are averaging 106.7 points and an NBA-best 28.1 assists while shooting 49.0 percent -- including a league-high 43.4 from 3-point range -- in nine games this month.

After its fifth consecutive win Tuesday, Washington is 12 games above .500 for the first time since finishing 54-28 in 1978-79 -- the last time it reached the NBA Finals.

The Wizards hope to keep rolling as they try to end a five-game losing streak in Miami. Including playoffs, they've lost 43 of the last 52 on the road in the series following a 105-97 defeat in the season opener.

Since winning 69 of 82 games in South Beach over the previous two seasons, the Heat (12-14) haven't been nearly as good at home. They've dropped four in a row and seven of eight there following Wednesday's 105-87 loss to Utah.

The Heat have allowed 106.0 points per game and 52.8 percentage shooting, including 50.0 from beyond the arc, during the four-game skid. They haven't lost five straight in Miami since a seven-game slide in March 2008.

"You really want to win at home, you want to play well at home and I feel like we've played better on the road this year than we've played at home," guard Dwyane Wade said. "I don't know the reason for it all."

Wade finished with 42 points for his biggest scoring performance since he had 45 on Dec. 29, 2010, but the rest of the Heat shot 29.4 percent. Point guards Norris Cole and Mario Chalmers went a combined 3 for 17.

Miami has averaged 85.7 points in three games since losing Chris Bosh indefinitely due to a calf injury. Wade has done his part, averaging 29.0 points during that span.

The Wizards have limited opponents to 94.7 points and 41.8 percent shooting while winning nine of 10. They held the Heat to a season-worst 2-of-22 shooting from 3-point range in a 107-86 home win Dec. 1.

Washington forward Paul Pierce is likely to miss his second straight game due to a sore toe.

This afternoon @ChrisBosh and @TeamTomorrowInc hosted the 5th Annual Christmas with Chris Bosh at GameTime Miami at the Shops at Sunset Place. Bosh celebrated the holiday season with 200 Miami area youth from Chapman Partnership Homeless Shelter, After School All Stars, Voices for Children, The Boys & Girls Club of Miami, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Best Buddies and the Each One Teach One Reach One program. The children received gifts from a number of generous sponsors by way of “Santa Bosh’s Workshop,” a pop up store designed specifically for this event. "It's about the kids. It's about the interaction and seeing them smile and have a good time. It's great to be able to do something that goes a long way." #CWCB2014

Since no one came through, I thought I'd bump yo thread... Lost a 23 point lead over the last 19 minutes, KJ McDaniels shut down the supremely in shape D Wade and my D League like Sixers beat the bum asss Heat at home 91-87... Disgraceful is an understatement, this bum ass team is why LeBron got the hell out of Miami... Shits getting embarrassing, y'all need to get yo weight up quick :smh:

The Granger and Mcroberts pickups were a mistake. Granger gets DNP's most games. Deng haven't done much. They gonna regret giving Bosh that contract. J Smith might help them out next to Bosh who can spread the floor for him.

The Christmas game is gonna be ugly for the Heat.
