How the fuck can the do all of that and give Bosh something close to max???

Pat Riley, Heat make first moves to keep LeBron James

Jeff Zillgitt and Sam Amick, USA TODAY Sports

Seven days into free agency, Miami Heat President Pat Riley made his first roster moves to show LeBron James why he should stick around.

This much is clear: Riley is confident James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade will return, according to people who have had phone conversations with Riley in the last week. The people spoke to USA TODAY Sports under the condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the conversations.
Of course, Riley's confidence doesn't guarantee anything. But right now, he isn't scrambling.

Reaching deals with forwards Josh McRoberts and Danny Granger is step one in making the necessary roster additions to improve the Heat. At the very least, Riley has tangible evidence to show James when they meet in the next couple of days to discuss the future. He is letting him know the Heat will spend what is required, including top dollar on Bosh, to win another title after two in four years together.
In the big picture, the Granger and McRoberts agreements give Riley room to present James with a couple of different spending options, including the ability to give Bosh a big contract, too.

But the Houston Rockets would love nothing more than to break up the Big Three, and always-aggressive general manager Daryl Morey went to work by offering Bosh a maximum-level contract, a person familiar with the negotiations told USA TODAY Sports. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the talks.
In offering the deal that would likely be between $80 million and $90 million combined over four years, the Rockets enticed Bosh with the same chance to join Dwight Howard and James Harden that they hoped would lure Carmelo Anthony.

Such is the nature in free agency, where there's always Plans B, C and D for when Plan A goes awry. The Rockets' attention now is on Bosh after earlier pursuits of James, Anthony and point guard Kyle Lowry (who is returning to the Toronto Raptors).
Their pitch, like so many others, was multilayered. But beyond all the talk of a winning tradition, stability and success of ownership and the like is the fact that the lack of a state tax coupled with the relatively cheap cost of living could, by the Rockets' own calculations, make it worth the equivalent of about $120 million in some other cities. (Florida also lacks a state income tax.)
But James remains the linchpin. Only the four-time NBA MVP knows where his head is at these days. And only James knows whether he really is thinking about heading home again or if the city of Cleveland that was so angry with him when he left the Cavaliers in 2010 is about to have its heart broken again.

Cleveland has followed these bizarre events at every turn, from the private plane of Cavs owner Dan Gilbert being tracked on an unexplained trip to Florida to the team's website drawing scrutiny because Gilbert's spite-filled 2010 letter to James was deleted from its archives after four years.
The notion of James, an Akron native, possibly returning is not the stuff of fiction. His Cleveland-based agent, Rich Paul, talked to the Cavs along with four other teams (the Rockets, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers) last week. Depending on how James' meeting with Riley goes, the next step was expected to be in-person meetings among between James, Paul and representatives from teams deemed finalists.

But James now has more to think about in Miami. The Heat got longer, more athletic and younger with the two deals, which can't be signed until the free agent moratorium ends Thursday. July 10. McRoberts and Granger are fine complementary pieces.
McRoberts is 27 and coming off one of his best seasons at 8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game for the Charlotte Bobcats. He gives the Heat another big man who can pass, rebound and play inside or outside. Last season, Charlotte coach Steve Clifford said McRoberts was one of the three major reasons for the team's turnaround.
Splitting time between the Indiana Pacers and Los Angeles Clippers last season, Granger had his moments but wasn't close to All-Star form. But the Heat don't need him to be an All-Star. They need him to be an upgrade off the bench.

In a worst-case scenario, Riley would have use of a trade exception to acquire another player, re-sign the Heat's own free agents, such as Chris Andersen, Ray Allen, Mario Chalmers and Rashard Lewis, sign rookie Shabazz Napier and fill the rest of the roster with minimum-salary players.
And in a best-case scenario, Riley can get far enough under the salary cap and avoid using exceptions to sign McRoberts and Granger and have other exceptions to sign players and go over the salary cap. That could require Bosh and Wade, and maybe even James, to take a little less.
Monday was a start for Riley. Will it be good enough?

Enough for who...

If all Riley does is upgrade from Battier to McRoberts and Lewis to Granger, that might still be enough.

Retooling around Big 3 begins
Tom Haberstroh [ARCHIVE]

ESPN Insider | July 7, 2014

With LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh still not re-signed, Heat president Pat Riley finally made his first splash of free agency. Apparently, the first step to luring the Big Three back to Miami is remaking the 2011 Indiana Pacers. That sound you hear is the agents for James Posey and T.J. Ford frantically dialing Riley's cellphone.

In all seriousness, the Heat's two moves on Monday gave us some insight into their plans for retooling around James, Wade and Bosh. With little spending power, the Heat were never going to strike a blockbuster deal. But from their agreements to sign Josh McRoberts and Danny Granger with their cap exceptions, we can learn a few things about the Heat's thinking as we head into Riley's planned meeting with James on Tuesday.

He got 10 million to work with.......Isn't Deng wanting at least 12 million by himself? I don't know what Gasol's market is......it shouldn't be high but if Frye just got 32 million........Gasol could get the same i'd think.

Soccer, baseball and hockey...3 of the most boring sports ever created..imho

I cant even listen to any sports radio. Been listening to old foxxhole radio reruns over the last 3 weeks.

I record First Take, Mike And Mike etc. just so i can skip all the other bs and go to the NBA and NFL talk.

It'll all be over soon. The fact that we're starting to lose a minute of sunlight everyday is a signal that football season is coming soon.

you notice that too right?

If bosh leaves that's looking more and more feasible he going to south beach... Or as i stated wade taking 5 mill on some wink and nod agreement they signing melo and bosh re-upping but that means melo take a pay cut orrrr both them niggas go to la

hmmm

man im telling you, something doesnt seem right; and when shit aint adding up that means something else is going on that people arent talking about...again i refuse to believe lbj is going back to cleveland if hes truly trying to win championships; also i cant believe wade would have opted out without knowing that lbj is coming back; i just think that bosh is the key now...

pat riley, heat make first moves to keep lebron james

let me say this again, these teams can give any players they want the max; its just a matter of if they wanna pay the penalties or not; teams use to go over the cap all the time and still would but the new cba is awful; thats it...

PJ Hariston got into a fight with a high school player earlier today. Is this dude officially a headcase now?

 Wade is done.

If Lebron don't jump on the Cavs opportunity now, they might do some dumb shit. Then what? He is stuck in Miami with Wade at $12 million a year and an aging Bosh instead of young talent.

He could go to another team next year or the year after, but after not winning next year and the year after in Miami, he will be clowned.

Wade should have been dumped. He wasn't. If Lebron signs back, he isn't winning shit.

How is Wade done when he averaged 19pts 4reb and 3assit and shot 55%. How many other 2 guards are putting up those numbers in the league while shooting 55%?

Not a ton of developments overnight in free agency, but there were a few. Updates posted throughout our Big List: sheridanhoops.com/2014/07/08/she…

We have been telling you for weeks that Cleveland is in the hunt for LeBron James. Some have dismissively scoffed at the notion, like Miami radio host Orlando Alzugaray. Others have surveyed the landscape, summoned their inner Spock and said: “Why not?”

And as we reached the seventh day of the seventh month of the year, the possibility never looked more plausible than it did Monday.

Today? Yes, it is a new day. And it begins with the New York Knicks on pins and needles as they await a decision from Carmelo Anthony.

But he is not the biggest fish.

LeBron James is.

Various reports say James will give serious consideration to returning to the Cavs, who he met with Sunday in south Florida. James traveled Monday to Las Vegas, and a source who has been briefed on James’ free agency maneuverings told SheridanHoops that James’ inner circle, from his wife, Savannah to his agent, Rich Paul, to his best friends, Maverick Carter and Randy Mims, are unanimous in their belief that James’ best move is a return to the team he played for from 2003-2010.

My source believes there is a 75 percent chance James returns to Cleveland.

James will have a sitdown with Miami Heat president Pat Riley today, and unless Riley has a concrete plan to upgrade the talent around James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh with more than Josh McRoberts and Danny Granger, it is more likely than not that James will sign with Cleveland.James has been listening intently to all of his suitors, as this stating-the-obvious headline from ESPN breathlessly says:

Of course LeBron is listening to their pitch, because the Cavs can offer James something no one else can: Redemption.

Let us not forget that we are reaching the four-year anniversary of “taking my talents,” Jim Gray, Cavs fans burning jerseys and Dan Gilbert wrongly predicting more championships for Cleveland than Miami in his infamous comic sans stream-of-consciousness Internet post — a post that was purged from the Cavs’ Web site overnight Sunday.

Never has the balance of power in the NBA hung in the balance quite the way it does as this work week begins. OK, it was a similar situation four years ago regarding the balance of power, and we all were witnesses to how much sway The Chosen One holds over our beloved Association.

For now, it is a question of whether he ‘ll resume his career in the same place it started, with Kyrie Irving and Andrew Wiggins as his youthful running mates, or whether he’ll take his talents back to South Beach for the next five years. Also, and this is a very important question, can the Cavs swing the trades that would be necessary to clear a max salary slot for The King?

Some insight into that last question is provided by Brian Windhorst and Marc Stein of ESPN.com:

“The team also potentially owns three first-round picks in the 2015 draft, including the Heat’s pick if they fall outside the top 10. They also have the Memphis Grizzlies’ pick if it falls between Nos. 6 and 14 and their own pick. The Cavs believe they can use these as assets in potential trades to further upgrade the roster if James will come aboard. The Cavs also made an unheralded trade late on draft night that has potential to become valuable next year, an aspect they intend to explain to James: as part of a draft-pick swap, the Cavs traded Alonzo Gee for Brendan Haywood in a deal that will be announced after July 10. In addition to having size the Cavs need, Haywood has an unorthodox contract created when he was waived via the amnesty clause by the Dallas Mavericks. Haywood will be on the Cavs’ books for $2.2 million this season but has a $10.5 million deal for the following season that isn’t guaranteed until Aug. 1, 2015. This is one of the most unique contracts in the league, and the Cavs could use it in a straight trade or a sign-and-trade to add a major free agent next summer, even though they aren’t positioned to have cap space.”

The man who has been greasing the skids for this epic event is James’ agent, Rich Paul, who has been meeting with potential suitors in Cleveland during the first week of the NBA’s moratorium on signings and trades, which expires July 10. Much of Paul’s work has been taking place under the radar, although there have been clues, such as Mavericks owner Mark Cuban being spotted in northeast Ohio. The Lakers had a stealth meeting Friday, and the Rockets and Suns also spoke with Paul.

More clarity comes from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports:

“The fact James hasn’t been contributing to the Heat’s pursuit of a supporting cast has troubled some and left them wondering: Just how committed is James to re-joining Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade with the Heat? For the Cavaliers, the shedding of contracts to create salary-cap space isn’t a tremendous risk. For James, a four-time MVP and two-time NBA champion, the stakes are far higher. If Paul gets up the hopes of the franchise and Northeast Ohio without delivering James’ return, Paul risks playing a part in turning James into a villain all over again. Nevertheless, the Cavaliers have little choice but to dutifully make the moves necessary to make James an offer. The biggest obstacle remains unloading the contract of Jarrett Jack. The Cavaliers have found a landing spot for Jack and his $6.2 million annual salary in the Brooklyn Nets, but only if the Cavs can find a third team to take on Brooklyn’s Marcus Thornton, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Cleveland is offering Thornton and future draft considerations as incentive to absorb his $8.7 million expiring contract, sources said. The Cavaliers need to unload more contracts and have made 2013 first-round pick Sergey Karasev, among others, available in deals, sources said.”

Meanwhile, on the Carmelo Anthony front, he has finished his tour of meeting with prospective teams and was told by the Knicks that they are indeed willing to make him a max, five-year offer. His decision could come today, although complicating the either-or factor is the fact that the Los Angeles Lakers would like to sign a pair of max players to join Kobe Bryant, and the Phoenix Suns are equipped with enough sign-and-trade assets to pull off a double coup of their own.

No matter what, it has become clear that “The Decision II” awaits us.

They been pushing dude to go back since he left and you ask what's THEIR motivation.. See in Cleveland they were running shit and in Miami they are nobody's, that's the gist of it they are forgetting LEBRON WAS THE BIG FISH IN CLEVELAND AND MIAMI but it's his handlers who want more control and they need to realize ITS LEBRONS SHOW NOT THEIRS that's why Bron need to make his own decision and from the looks of it they were against him leaving but Bron made his own decision and that's good
