Nicki Minaj made some barbed comments during her acceptance speech for her fifth consecutive win as Best Female Hip-Hop Artist at the BET Awards Sunday night that appeared to be directed toward Iggy Azalea.

After quasi-plugging her upcoming album The Pink Print, Minaj said, "What I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj is, that when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it."

Then she gestured in a way that seemed like she was locking her mouth and mugged at the audience. As the audience cheered, she said, "No, no, no, no, no shade," and smiled at Lil Wayne. The comment about writing her own verses seemed to address rumors that Azalea, who was nominated in the same category as Minaj, employed ghostwriters like T.I., according to Gawker.

Minaj went on to tell a story about Lil Wayne making her perfect her verses in the studio. "I'm still one of the only MCs that's out here spitting metaphors and making you think," she said. "And I really don’t even care if I get my credit or if I don't."

Outside of her biting commentary, Minaj shared that she had a health scare that she did not report to the media. "The other day, literally – I didn't tell anyone this – I really thought I was about to die," she said. "Like I was saying my prayers to die. And I didn't even wanna call the ambulance because I thought, 'Well if I call the ambulance, it's gonna be on TMZ. And I would rather sit there and die...' And it made me realize, 'I don't care what anybody gotta say. I'ma do me.'"

Over the past few months, Minaj has been teasing The Pink Print, releasing a surreal video for the ballady "Pills N Potion" in early June. Although the album does not have an official release date, Minaj said at the award show that it would come out this year.

The award show also featured performances by Pharrell, Usher, Azalea, John Legend and Robin Thicke, who dedicated his new song "Forever Love" to estranged wife Paula Patton. "I miss you and I'm sorry," Thicke said, with the singer displaying a photo of the couple. Jay Z and Beyoncé closed out the show with a video performance of the remix to Beyonce's hit "Partition."

While accepting her BET Award for Best Female Hip Hop Artist tonight, Nicki Minaj made a none too subtle jab at one of her fellow nominees in the category, Iggy Azalea. You can see why: This is the first year since Nicki Minaj became a household name that she conceivably could have lost in the category, thanks to the obscene success of Iggy Azalea and her single, "Fancy." Nicki was looking to take home the category's trophy for the fifth year in a row. Would the BET powers that be who arbitrarily re-reward the rich, famous, and talented allow her to win again? That's about as close to suspense as you'll find on one of these shows.

Whether she is threatened, pissed that an even bigger drag queen than her is stealing some of her shine, legitimately insulted by Iggy Azalea's hip-hop for dummies, putting on a great show (this was the last of the night's categories for a reason), or some blend of these scenarios, Nicki let Iggy know that she's got her eye on her without even looking in her direction. That's shade.

"What I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj is when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it," said Nicki Minaj with Nicki Minaj's mouth in words that originated in Nicki Minaj's head.

It's widely rumored that Iggy Azalea uses ghostwriters, including her mentor T.I. That alone makes Nicki's words evidence of shade, but there's more because then she did this:

790335593468976675.gif

And then she said, "And no, no, no, no, no, no shade, um..."

(Yes shade.)

And then she did this:

790335593909259811.gif

And then she said, "No, no, no shade, no, no, no shade."

(Yes shade.)

After talking about her process and the fact that she'd rather die than be written about on TMZ for having called an ambulance (yeah, I don't know), Nicki took another apparent shot at Iggy toward the end of her speech by saying, "I hope and pray that BET continues to honor authenticity," which are rich words for a superhuman pop goddess who is now better known for her EDM-style audience-pandering Top 40 hits, day-glow wigs, and endless endorsement deals, than she is for the relatively straightforward hip-hop of her pre-fame mixtapes, but whatever. This was still fun in a Roxanne Shanté kind of way.

Iggy Azalea Disses Nicki Minaj, Former 'American Idol' Judge Replies Via Twitter

iggy-azalea.jpg

Nicki Minaj is mad at fellow female artist Iggy Azalea over a tweet posted more than three years ago. Lately, people on Twitter have been looking through celebrities’ old posts to try and find something they said that could essentially cause drama.

One Twitter user found a post from Azalea dating back to 2010, dissing Minaj. “LMAO at Nikki saying she did the BET Awards live. Errrr. If you say so girl,” the 23-year-old wrote.

When the post resurfaced this week, Minaj did not take kindly to it, replying, “Laughing at [expletive] you can’t even do…study dat formula…cornball….LMFAO [sic].”

Azalea, who was not known in the rap world until 2011 when she released her first mixtape, “Ignorant Art,” later defended her tweet, writing a lengthy message via Twitter.

“Listen. I see a trend on Twitter in the last week that involves people retreating artists old tweets. I’m talking OLD, done and dusted [expletive] ones. And while I know most artists are gonna go the silent route and ignore that it’s happening, I’m going to talk to you even though I know the people who get hype off the whole thing are immature anyhow.

But here goes: YES. I have an opinion,” Azalea wrote. “And NO, even when I’m a fan of someone it doesn’t mean I like EVERY THING THAT THEY do. There was once a time when I could crack jokes, talk about TV shows or whose record I hate and whose I loved etc. on Twitter.

I can’t do that now. In part because you guys would make life a nightmare and in part because it would just be unprofessional. But remember there was a time when my Twitter was just for my friends and family to see. Just like yours probably is now. Anyhow -- to me, I feel like what you guys are doing is really unfair. That’s my opinion. Right now in 2013.”

Minaj has yet to reply to Azalea’s lengthy response.

Nicki Minaj Talks New Single & Reaction To Forbes Iggy Azalea Article On The Breakfast Club Morning Show

nicki-minaj-breakfast-club.jpg

Just when some folks thought Nicki was sleeping and being “oddly quiet,” she dropped a hot new single this morning that’s sure to get some major spins on the radio.

While promoting the new track, titled “Pills N Potions,” she phoned in to the Breakfast Club Morning Show to dish on the inspiration behind the song, as well as what continues to motivate her to put out music and what we should expect from her next album.

Of course, it wouldn’t be right if she wasn’t asked for her reaction to Forbes Magazine’s latest article, which claimed that since Nicki has jumped out of the lane of making pop-infused radio-friendly hits, newcomer Iggy Azalea is now running Hip Hop.

Catch what she had to say about that and more in the highlights below:

On her new single “Pills N Potions”
I was just reflecting on people, people in my life who’ve come and gone, and just thinking what does it all mean.

On if she subliminally referenced her former hairstylist who is suing her in her new song
God bless him. I’m talking about lots of people. It’s not about anyone in particular but I have come across a lot of people that I have given amazing opportunities to who continue to bite the hand that feed them. I always give people enough rope to hang themselves with. I just live my life and try to be super fair to everyone, so when you cross me it’s just like really? Hmm, okay. It is what it is.

On why she went back to her old image
I don’t know. The album is more personal so the look being stripped down goes really well with the third album. I always planned to do it at this time. It didn’t just come about now; I just always thought my third album I would want to go back to my real hair.

On if she’s surprised that there hasn’t been a lot of new female rappers who are doing their thing since she came out
I feel like I have opened that door in the industry. To be honest, I think there are women that do their thing and for whatever reason they don’t get the recognition. But that’s something you have to take up with pop culture and it has nothing really to do with me. I can’t really speak for anybody’s grind or how pop culture receives people. To answer your question, no I’m really not surprised because even when I was grinding and putting out tapes and stuff, it was hard for me. It takes a lot of work. Nothing just happens overnight. It’s not a female friendly business. Hip hop is not female friendly at all.

On if there will be more hardcore rapping on her new album
No, I don’t want to label what I’m doing. This isn’t about is it a hardcore album. This is a meaningful body of work and I’m tired of labeling it. I’m not going to ever label my music again. It is what it is. You can tell from ‘Pills N Potions’ that I’m just creating music and the most important thing to me is to keep is truthful and keep it honest. Sometimes you’re going to feel like it’s hardcore and sometimes you may feel like it’s not. But as long as it’s good music then that’s really all that matters to me at this point.

On what’s motivating her
You know what? I’m just the type of person that’s never going to stop. I’m not going to ever stop until after having some babies. My motivation is the same as it always was. I was hungry and I’ll continue to be hungry and the only thing that might make me not hungry in rap is if God sees it fit one day to give me some babies.

On what she thinks of Forbes Magazine saying that she has been quiet and Iggy Azalea is now running Hip Hop:
[Starts laughing hard] Okkkayyy, I’m reloaded! All Forbes needs to be worried about is my finances and when I’m going to be selling MYX Fusions for $250 million. That’s all they need to worry about. We rely on hip hop connoisseurs and blogs for that kind of information, so we can appreciate that, but no thank you.

If this bitch doesn't want "old" tweets to come back an haunt her, delete the "old" account and start a new one. Either way, she knows damn well she's a bootleg Nicki Minaj CAC doppelganger, sans the talent. Nicki may not always use her talent in a way that I like, but there's no denying she's talented. Iggy Azalea's talent has yet to be revealed to me.

Nicki about to crash n burn.

She's talking about metaphors and writing her own lyrics.

Neither Nicki's/Iggy Azalea fans give two fucks about who wrote the lyrics, now she trying to use hip hop credibility in Pop music. :smh:

Don't try to come back after waving the rainbow flag. Too bad you didn't understand . . . THEY DON'T LOVE YOU!

Could not have said it any better.......

Aside from the techno pop Nicki put out, Nikki seems to be 100x better than Iggy and bit more untraditional. I'm not a big fan of either of them., but I don't see that much of a comparison to me, but then again, I've really only heard a snippet of the song just posted in this thread and other of Iggy.

Iggy Got the number one and number 2 song in the country.

Nikki been teasing with a album trying to create buzz all year, now going the old 50cent "get rich" route. Bitch go sit down, shade? More like hate and trying to promote.

White girl is feeling herself

Especially since she has the cosign from TI
Yep. She will go ALL THE WAY pop like Pink when the smoke clears. She also sounds like Gwen Stephani to me.

And... Uh huh... Lil Wayne helped perfect a verse?... Mannn who the hell helping him? :hmm:

Nah she sounds like DA Brat. That's another chick that stole Stefani's sound on that song.

Nicki does both Hip-Hop and Pop better than Iggy. It's not even close. Not to mention, Nicki's (reportedly) worth 45 million, mostly off endorsements, film and television. She doesn't 'need' beef with Iggy to make moves the way Azealia Banks needs beef with Iggy to stay relevant.

shes seems threatened by Iggy, noticed how shes had that category on lock for 4-5 years now no problem, this was her first year she was sweating a lil bit.she was the only mainstream female pop rapper out presently, now she has some actual competition.

You must be white

That happen, because she's white she instantly got play on white pop stations. It happen to Macklemore, but he had to work, because he's an indie artist. Iggy got backing because she's on a major.

A black artist has to crossover from urban radio to pop radio.

I noticed that shit after the broad had the nerve to name her album The New Classic

If Nicki sold 50,000 the first week people would say she flopped

Iggy ain't shit.

Nicki is actually 100x's more talented than Iggy

Ain't no hate it's the truth.

gonna be funny seeing all these people cape for Iggy and then when she gets what she wanted...she'll step stone to pop music and never look back.

Iggy is rapping because when they tried the Katy Perry route everyone that mattered said GTFOH

then they said hey...blacks will accept her let's get her in the door THAT way first and then transition

Nicki ain't got nothing to worry about. Iggy is one dimensional. Nicki can rap and sing and does all styles of music. Iggy is a poser from down under! Fake urban accent and these dumb ass young folks buying into that shit! Is she from the streets? Is she from the hood? Hell no. Fuck outta here with that bullshit! But beefin' sells records so whatever!
