Xbox One Console Reviews

To be honest, no one really cares what Nintendo does... They aren't competing for the market that Sony and M$ go after.

You are not picking up my point.

Who were the hardware winners and losers last gen?

Did the winner of year 1, go and "win" at the end of the cycle?

And lastly, why would anyone care?

Google’s YouTube has reached a deal to buy Twitch, a popular videogame-streaming company, for more than $1 billion, according to sources familiar with the pact.

The deal, in an all-cash offer, is expected to be announced imminently, sources said. If completed the acquisition would be the most significant in the history of YouTube, which Google acquired in 2006 for $1.65 billion. The impending acquisition comes after longtime Google ad exec Susan Wojcicki was named CEO of YouTube earlier this year.

Reps for YouTube and Twitch declined to comment.

San Francisco-based Twitch lets users upload and watch free, live gameplay videos that can be streamed from Microsoft Xbox and PlayStation 4 consoles. The company claims to have more than 45 million monthly users, with more than 1 million members who upload videos each month. It also has deals to distribute shows from partners including CBS Interactive’s GameSpot, Joystiq and Destructoid.

YouTube is preparing for U.S. regulators to challenge the Twitch deal, according to sources. YouTube is far and away the No. 1 platform for Internet video, serving more than 6 billion hours of video per month to 1 billion users worldwide, and the company expects the Justice Department to take a hard look at whether buying Twitch raises anticompetitive issues in the online-video market.

Twitch was launched in June 2011 by Justin Kan and Emmett Shear, co-founders of Justin.tv, one of the first websites to host livestreaming user-generated video. Shear currently serves as CEO of Twitch.

Founded in 2011, the startup has raised about $35 million in funding. Investors include Bessemer Venture Partners, Alsop Louie Partners, WestSummit Capital, Take-Two Interactive Software, Thrive Capital and Draper Associates.

One of Twitch’s competitors is Major League Gaming, a New York-based company whose investors include Oak Investment Partners and Relativity Media CEO Ryan Cavanaugh.

In March 2014, Twitch represented 1.35% of all downstream bandwidth on North American fixed-access broadband networks — nearly triple from last fall, according to bandwidth-equipment company Sandvine.

Google is gonna ruin twitch with content flags, ads, fees, etc.

Thats the same point I made to that idiot Varis... But, all I was saying to you is Sony and M$ dont compete with Nintendo...

WiiU could drop to $99 tommorrow, then proceed to push 1Million units in a day, and Sony and M$ still wouldn't consider it a threat.

Nintendo isn't trying to compete Sony & MS. They doing there on thing as they always have. When Nintendo wan't to compete with Sony & MS with a true next gen console they probably will be leading in sales. Nintendo has the most well know IP's that people actually wan't. With their first party franchises & 3rd party jumping on board Nintendo would be in charge.

I haven't had a Nintendo console since the 64 & probably never will again if they don't change their approach. They need some new direction soon.

Nintendo will never win in the hardcore realm...

And the way things are going over there, all of those classic IP's may be on Playstation and Xbox soon.

They need someone else in charge. Someone who understands how important having a powerful system with an excellent online system has become nowadays. They still act like they are fighting Sega. But on a positive note, it's Almost time for Mario Kart.

The notorious Mega CD title Night Trap will be re-released in the future, its co-creator has confirmed.

James Riley, who holds the rights to the game, told the closed Night Trap Facebook community the news earlier today.

The community has been trying to persuade Riley to re-release a remastered version of the game or sell the rights to someone who will, in the hope that they can play an improved version with better quality video no longer affected by the heavy compression used in mid-90s FMV games.

"I appreciate your on-going interest," Riley replied, "but please understand I do plan to re-release Night Trap and have been talking with a number of interested parties to do so. However, the specific platform(s) have not been confirmed (including online) and I will let you know once we have a definite plan and release schedule.

"Night Trap will come back, in better resolution and game play than before, we just want to be sure it's the best strategy for all involved."

Night Trap gained notoriety in 1993 due to its full-motion video graphics and its premise of a group of teenagers in a house being stalked by vampire-like creatures called Augers.

It was one of the main games that led to congressional hearings on violent video games, and the subsequent creation of the ESRB.
