Grambling State Football team, aint show up for bus ride

yea but that's because of the cycle

they got what 30 years of making money off of black athletes to build that up.. and nobody is going to change the tide

if the next 4 classes of athletes which are going to be majority black went to hbcu schools

by the time the 4th class graduated they would have facilities comparable to anybody in the country

We can thank those brothers that kicked Kentucky's ass for that. After that shit, cacs started checking for black athletes.

Word. At least they did it together. I wonder will player lose scholarships behind this?

We almost pulled this move at WSSU but since I was a walk on players was like "shut yo walk on ass up and sit at the end of the bench."

*holds head down in embarrassment cause that's what I did*

I needed the meal money and groupie bitches. Don't judge me. I was just 18 years old :lol:

:lol:

Whaddup fam!

I feel you both. Ryan Stewart wanted to go to SCSU, but he said that they couldn't compete with the facilities at Ga. Tech.
Exactly, could not compete with the facilities. That's a damn shame!:angry:

large, that's my point. In the era we live in now, it is so much more advanced than when the schools were firs built.

So, like you said, in the time it takes for a kid to graduate, or better yet when it was first announced about the BCS change, start guiding black recruits to HBCU's and by the middle of the next presidency, the entire playoff system is made up of HBCU's while white schools find their rightful place in the mix.

I know all won't go. I am not stupid, but the same way every movement starts, it just takes ONE......

I feel you man, but it's tough to compete against other schools that gives the kids a higher level of exposure and marketing.

At this point is going to take a HUGE sense of black pride for a blue chip player to want to go play at a HBCU.

It's almost like our fight for equality was a gift and a curse. We want to have the same rights as whites, but at the expense of losing our best athletic players to their schools.

This is one of the reasons that officially paying players would be a bad thing. If an HBCU had no cash to pay me, I would hold out 8 years or whatever it took to get to a school that did. And then you would have major powerhouses just because of the cash they had on hand. It would make a bad situation worse.

I am happy to see young black men taking a stand.

Would love to see others do something to show their support like wearing arm bands or something with their socks...

:yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes:

:smh::smh:

JSU says has put up signs saying the homecoming tickets are non-refundable. Now they get to watch JSU scrimmage themselves tomorrow :smh:

UPDATE: Homecoming continues; JSU to play Blue and White scrimmage game – Saturday, 2 p.m.

You dudes got it twisted. Black schools have money for what they want to do. The administrations are top heavy, the prexy is over paid, and most of the mofo that work there think there shit don't stank. You are dealing with a culture that must be changed. The problem is, no one has the nuts to change it. Believe me, I know what the fuck I am talking about. Last thing... The alumni at our schools are shitty. We don't give back... I can understand why sometimes too. Bad food, terrible housing, mofo getting their asses whipped or shot, girls getting raped in student housing. I could go on.. We got a host of problems that can be fixed immediately, but who has the nuts to fix it?

Brings to mind Morehouse's accounting fuck ups.

Discussing a black school getting a High level football team is reaching to far. Its a long process. However there is no reason that we can't put together a basketball team that can't win a National Championship is less that 8-10 years. The problem is that a lot of people would have to sacrifice there children. What I mean by that is that they would have to give up going to Duke, NC, or whomever to go to a HBCU, hope they get playing time on TV then go on to the NCAA to dominate. Thats a long process in itself. Also before the players even show up the coach staff and athletic directors all have to be on board that this is a goal vs I'm just here until something better pops up. One other thing that I thought off is getting money through wresting. With the younger boys I see them taking more interest in wrestling these days as they see Anderson Silva, GSP, and Jon Jones on TV dominating. Brazilian JuJitsu is going to be too expenive, but Wrestling is at damn near every high school and is a great base to get into MMA which could be used at the college level to attract more athletes.

:smh::smh::smh::smh::smh:

this shit is all kinds of different fucked up.

GSU needs to get their shit together... NOT just the football team but the WHOLE cot damn school.

i remember one year when we played Marshall......they bused us up there from GSU (Georgia Southern Univ) and we were mad as fuck and complained about it. they never bused us that far again.

Exactly... I went to GSU (same as Coldchi) and my old lady went to one of those HBCUs - I swear the differences between these two schools were night and day. The bullshit that went on at that school was/is laughable. I wish that HBCUs were better but they're not. I've got plenty of examples but the bullshit over at Morris Brown is a good start. Best believe Clark is headed for the same destiny as Mo B too.

Only credible HBCU in my opinion is Spelman and I hear Howard is also a good option.

Let's go EAGLES! Best HBCU within a "normal" university one could ask for.

Bro. I became a man living in Winston:cool:

My best years were in Wilson hall :yes:

It really would. I didn't think about it that way. Paying college athletes my give them more incentive to go to these bigger school.

You dudes got it twisted. Black schools have money for what they want to do. We got a host of problems that can be fixed immediately, but who has the nuts to fix it?

Black schools have a lot of shit to deal with as you mentioned. I agree with the administration too. Most are incompetent and complacent with their jobs. I have constantly challenged the administration at my school. Needless to say they can't wait for me to graduate because I have stirred up such a ruckus. To change shit at a school takes the union of the student body. I have went as far as starting a doctoral student committee (union) to address problem within the administration.

Undergraduates does not have the knowledge to deal with the administration properly. They usually tell them whatever they want and the undergrad either get pissed or takes it as is. Hell M.S. and Ph.D students as well. The key is knowing the game and how its played. See, these folks catches attitudes from students. That is not how you play it. You have to learn the job of administration by researching protocol and then challenge them on a political game. That is how we achieve results using the doctoral student committee. Now there is fear among the administration not to fuck us over because we have told them our plan of action, which is basically student protest of doctoral students with media attention. Ph.D students are key drivers to university credibility. They know the last people they want to displease are their Ph.D students, especially when they band together.

One of the recent financial problem our school have been facing are federal penalties for various reasons. Over the last 2 years we have lost over 250 jobs at our school because of fines up to 30 million dollars worth. The acceptance of too many unqualified students and more out of state students than allowed has our school suffering. The rabbit hole is mad deep. I could go on and on about the problem my school is facing, but I'll be typing all night long. I have solutions, but without the backing of the student body and their understanding of how to approach it make it difficult to achieve changes.

This protest by GSU is an example of how to do that.

Man that is almost the same route we took from Winston, NC to Clarion, Pa. And we took that trip on a small ass tour bus!:angry:

Dude, we were cramped the fuck up when we got there. Dudes could barely move on the bus. And you're right about them dame WV mountains. Shit had me shook up for real. As a matter of fact, we left the day of an ice storm:smh: Came back from PA about 3 or 4am in the morning and them son of a bitches still wanted us to go to class.

cot damn. y'all were dressed up as football players in a fucking horror movie... starring a sleepy bus driver and a fucked up travel budget.

:smh::lol::eek::lol::eek::lol::lol:

Man I salute these guys making a stand because they are standing up for what many people havent talked about, especially in this thread. The funding to the school itself went from 31 Million to 13 Million, so the whole school is hurting but these football players are getting more press than if the whole student body rose up and said something so i commend them for that.
As far as blacks playing at HBCUs i dont understand why not. If you taleneted you are talented and will get picked up at the next level. I remember watching Colts games when Dungy was the coach and most of the O-line came from HBCUs but the O linemen so no one paid attention but there are players from HBCUs that make it to the NFL. Hell Jerry Rice came from Missisppi Valley State, i couldnt find that on a map if my life depended on it. The only other current player i can think of is Antoine Bethea (Colts starting Safety) because he went to my school. Cuz at that level talent talks no matter what.
Being a graduate of an HBCU this shit hurts to look at, I wish HBCU administration would just stop being happy with titles and acutally get to work of improving the school. If you want money to come in you need a good football program, its just the way of the world and let that rising tide raise all ships. But the admin tends to get comfortable and wants to look good vs. doing good and oh putting a little extra in they pocket....
Been wanting to get that off my chest for a while

I'm almost positive I-77 was open back then

Bruh...they don't want to hear that! It's too easy to blame everyone, and everything else, instead of looking within the schools. Piss poor management, and lack of quality leadership is the issue at most of the HBCUs. You would have to be a fool to send your kids to Tuskegee with the living conditions I witnessed at that University. Last week the "committee" for Tuskegee and Morehouse Classic game threaten to move the game to Montgomery or Atlanta (currently played in Columbus,GA). Columbus pretty much told them to go ahead and leave.:smh:

:lol::lol: Dang! That must have really traumatized the heck out of you! Did yall win?:rolleyes:

Yes, but the Classic organizers alloted money for Grambling to fly to Indianapolis instead of grinding 15 hours (each way) on a bus. The President of Grambling admits that he took that budgeted money, rented buses, and kept the rest to spend elsewhere. Yet he flew himself and his entire personal entourage to the game. Alcorn got the same payout and they flew - read the SI article I linked earlier.

...and they got their asses beat 48-0 from having to drive overnight to get to that game, complete & total BULLSHIT!

Grambling's ENTIRE situation lays @ the door of the school President, Doug Williams already knew that if sponsors that wanted to donate to the football program went thru the B&GF, their money would have ended up elsewhere, which is why he did what he did!!!

So the AD was mad that the money Willams' raised didn't go thru whatever group before hand.....maybe because he (or others) wanted to take out his share first, or lowball price the equipment and pocket the rest of the cash?

Now THATS some bullshit......

This on top of putting those players on a bus for 15 hours to play a game that Grambling WAS GETTING PAID TO PLAY IN!!!!!:smh:

I was going to feel bad for what I am about to write, but as I read more of the thread I figured I am around family, so what the hell.

One word: INTEGRATION.

Before you knee jerk post, just think about it. It is obvious when we are left to our own devices of the overall advancement of our people, segregation kept us where we needed to be from a community standpoint.

Whites made it so bad for blacks in the South that they had our minds think white was "right" or "might".

You're the onlyone here in this thread that has come close to getting it right. Two words: Bobby Jindal

Re-read this quote from SI:

'Ask school officials why the football team and other programs are struggling and they quickly shift attention from personality conflicts and staffing decisions to the budget. Since 2007-08, overall state funding for Grambling has gone from $31.6 million to $13.8 million. The school has attempted to bridge that gap by increasing tuition, but it has fallen short, and cuts have been made across the board. Approximately 127 staff members have been laid off since 2008 and furloughs are common. Professors have also been asked to teach an extra class each year for free. Generally, the school has "cut to the bone," says Leon Sanders, Grambling's vice president for finance.'

The argument of the right wing, Republicans and libertarians in cahoots with the racists, is that with integration, the HBCU is unnesessary. De-fund them, and they will wither and die. Combine that with a bunch of self serving, money grubbing, elitist, thieving, tratorious administrators and you have Morris Brown and Grambling.
