I'm with you. I finally got time to finish the regular game last night and went online for the first time. Within 10 minutes, I was shot dead 4-5 times, and run over by both a truck and a car. This is all while attempting to go to the first clothing shop and buy an outfit. Mofos is RUTHLESS online.

GTA Online: Rockstar Apologises With GTA$ For All Players
But deleted characters are gone for good.
Rockstar has announced it's giving GTA Online players half a million GTA$ as compensation for multiple launch issues.
The cash will be given to anyone who's played Grand Theft Auto Online during the month of October, and will be delivered in two deposits of $250,000 each in order to avoid destabilising the in-game economy.
While Rockstar has yet to confirm exactly when the money will be dished out, the studio is hopeful the first batch will arrive next week, following confirmation that the most recent patch has indeed resolved the issues that caused characters to be deleted. The second instalment should arrive before the end of the month.
The announcement reads, "For players who experienced cloud server errors, connection issues, and lost game progress and characters in these first days of GTA Online, we hope this GTA$ helps to facilitate a fresh start or makes your continued life in Los Santos and Blaine County extra sweet."
As previously mentioned, to qualify you need to have played GTA Online during October. Additionally, you'll have to install a new title update (1.04) due for release next week that should hopefully sort the issue that's causing purchased vehicles to disappear.

Yo fam. Found a really good way for two people to go all ten rounds. Most folks wanna hit the roof and mow niggas down. That shit works well until the chopper comes. And if you suck at knocking them sonsabitches down like i am, i have a better spot for u to post up at.
You can't see it in this pic because it's not there. But as soon as the survival round starts, there will be a metal shipping container that appears against that wall between the two poles. There's a space between the wall and container. One person takes one side, the other takes the other. The chopper can't shoot you either. I've been making a killing doin this shit today.

I already have the second cheapest apartment 87k , yea it it looks like shit and probably has cockroaches,rats but it has a 2 car garage & a tv that's all I need
Put a bounty on some one that kills me , then sit down and watch the person being hunted down on TV ,
So I'm gonna use that 500k to buy guns and kill people , that's always fun
