2 Guns
When i watched the trailer for 2 Guns i dismissed it as just another arguing buddy, crime
action caper. The stars of the film are two of my favorite actors so i said why not give it a shot.
2 Guns is blessed with sharp and witty dialogue from Blake Masters, the writer behind the gone
to soon from Showtime series The Brotherhood. The other pluses for the film are the chemistry
between its two stars and the fact that it looks like they're having a good time.
DEA agent Robert Trench (Denzel Washington) Naval Intelligence Officer Michael Stigman (Mark Wahlberg)
rob a bank thinking it houses 3 million of drug lord Papi Grecos (Edward James Olmos) money.Instead they leave
the bank with 43 million plus and this draws all type of attention from the DEA,CIA,NAVY and lets not forget
the drug cartel.
The banter between the two leads is great,Washington more of a scolding father figure to Wahlbergs aiming to
please enthusiasm.
Also providing some menacing fun is Bill Paxton as Earl a sadistic CIA operative.
Paula Patton as DEA agent Deb Rees is sorely underused. So much more could have been done with her character,
but at least she provides some moments of alluring beauty.
The plot becomes more convoluted and preposterous as it nears its last 20 minutes, but by that time i was having to much fun
for those factors to bring the entire film down.
I would place 2 Guns right between The Lethal Weapon films and The Last Boy Scout.

Blue Jasmine
Cate Blanchett truly displays she is at the top of her game in Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine.
As Jeanette 'Jasmine' Francis she chose to be oblivious to her husband Hal's (Alec Baldwin)
shady business dealings and infidelity. Her oblivity lead to her sister Ginger (Sally Hawkins)
and her first husband, Augie (Andrew Dice Clay) losing their windfall by investing with Hal.
To go from great wealth and a life of leisure Jasmine easily chafes at having to move in
with her sister and her nephews, the mere sight of Ginger's fiance Chili (Bobby Cannavale) and having to work a 9 to 5
which comes with a sleazy boss Michael Stuhlbarg as Dr. Flicke
There is a great scene in the film in which Allen pulls in closely on Jasmine and the look in her eyes
as she completely zones out says it all: Is this what my life has become?
The film goes back and forth between the past and present and i in one hand disliked Jasmine because she is selfish, looks down upon
others and is very self centered ,and in the other hand i reluctantly rooted for Jasmine because she is obviously on the brink of losing all of her sanity
and particularly when she catches the eye of a wealthy suitor Peter Sarsgaard as Dwight Westlake and her old life of wealth may be within grasp.
Director Allen gets great performances out of the ecletic cast and never forgets to drop in some humor in whats really a tragic
story.
Definitely one of Allen's best films.
