The worse thing and older player can do is coming back too soon from a major injury. I mean h doesn't have to be Derrick Rose but don't try to be Superman either - shoot for Christmas and come back then.

This may be the best thing for the Lakers franchise for Kobe to push himself to come back too soon, reinjures himself and never be the same again. I don't think Kobe is going out on his own.

Drew Gooden Clears Amnesty Waivers

The final amnesty victim of 2013 has cleared waivers and is now an unrestricted free agent, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.com. Stein tweets that teams have been notified that no bids were placed on Drew Gooden, who was amnestied by the Bucks on Tuesday night.

After starting 46 games and averaging 13.7 PPG and 6.5 RPG for the Bucks in 2011/12, Gooden wasn't a part of the team's rotation last season. The 31-year-old only appeared in 16 contests in 2012/13, recording about 150 total minutes for the year.

Milwaukee is still on the hook for about $13.37MM for Gooden over the next two seasons, so salary likely won't be the top priority for the former fourth overall pick as he seeks another NBA roster spot. While his career appears to be on the decline, Gooden could still be a decent bench piece for the veteran's minimum, so I'd expect him to receive a little interest.

Brown: Knicks could make offer Friday

Euroleague point guard Bobby Brown, who worked out for the New York Knicks twice this week, says he could receive an offer from the team as early as Friday.

"My agent [Aaron Mintz] said the Knicks' front office is going to meet about [an offer] today, and I'm supposed to hear back from them today," Brown told ESPNNewYork.com by phone from Los Angeles, where he has been working out at USC and Loyola Marymount.

Brown, who averaged 18.8 points and 5.3 assists this past season for Italy's Montepaschi Siena basketball club, has an offer in China for more money than what the Knicks can propose. They only have veteran's minimum contracts available, but Brown said he would sacrifice dollars to play in New York.

"I want to stay in the NBA," said Brown, who has played 113 NBA games during his career, for the Timberwolves, Kings, Hornets and Clippers.

Brown, 28, is a Los Angeles native. He said he was pursued by the city's two NBA teams early in the free-agent process, but once they signed Darren Collison (Clippers) and Jordan Farmar (Lakers) as backup point guards, the Knicks became the front-runners.

Sources: Nuggets eye Mike Miller
Sources told ESPN.com that the Nuggets are now getting strong consideration from Miller along with the early frontrunners in the race to sign him: Oklahoma City and Memphis.

Miller, according to sources, met face-to-face Friday with new Grizzlies owner Robert Pera and CEO Jason Levien after an earlier sitdown with Thunder general manager Sam Presti. Sources said that Thunder All-Star Kevin Durant and Grizzlies All-Star Marc Gasol have both taken an active role in recruiting Miller, who has received interest from a number of contenders after being released earlier this week by the Miami Heat via the amnesty provision.

Sources: Byron Mullens, Clips agree
LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Clippers have agreed to sign center Byron Mullens to a two-year contract, sources told ESPNLosAngeles.com.

Terms were not disclosed, but league sources said the deal was worth $2 million and Mullens will hold a player option for the second year of the deal. Mullens had a career year for the Charlotte Bobcats last season, starting 41 games and averaging 10.6 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 26.9 minutes per game.

Perhaps more importantly for the Clippers is Mullens' ability to shoot from outside, as he averaged a career-high 31.7 percent from behind the three-point line last season. The seven-footer has played both power forward and center for the Oklahoma City Thunder and Bobcats during his four seasons in the NBA and gives the Clippers a possible stretch four off the bench, which they've been looking for recently.

Glad the Clips have a big man that can hit a jumper now.

31.7 percent isn't exactly great or even good behind the 3 point line though

I guess since he is 7 feet tall it is but still I don't care how tall or short you are if that's your percentage I don't want you shooting that many threes

He dosen't have to set up from behind the 3 point line, just spread the floor for the mid. That's something that Blake & Jordan are incapable of doing. I would love for them to get a shooting 4 like Anderson or even settle for Radmonovic.

Spoelstra scouts Greg Oden at workout by free agent center...

By Ira Winderman
South Florida Sun Sentinel
6:26 p.m. EDT, July 23, 2013

* The Miami Heat's protracted courtship of Greg Oden included face time in front of the free-agent center Tuesday by Heat coach Erik Spoelstra and Heat Vice President of Player Personnel Chet Kammerer.

* The Heat have expressed interest in Oden over the past two seasons, including several exchanges between Heat President Pat Riley and agent Mike Conley Sr.

* Tuesday's workout in Indianapolis was limited, with Oden, 25, still working his way back from a series of injuries that have had him out of the league since a Dec. 5, 2009 game with the Portland Trail Blazers.

* According to a source familiar with the situation, the 7-foot center's decision ultimately could come down to the team that steps up with the most significant offer. A decision is expected within a week.

**While the Heat remain in possession of their $3.2 million taxpayer mid-level exception, the belief is their preference is to offer Oden the $1 million veteran's minimum. It remains unclear whether the Heat would be willing to offer more than one guaranteed season, with every player on the Heat's current roster a potential free agent next summer.

** The Heat also have been in contact with the agent for Marcus Camby, with the veteran free-agent center viewed more as a fallback option, the 39-year-old possibly to be bypassed even if the Heat lose out on Oden. Camby's free-agent decision also is expected within the next week, with the Heat, Chicago Bulls and Houston Rockets believed to be his prime suitors.

** Oden also has attracted interest from the Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, New Orleans Pelicans, Atlanta Hawks and San Antonio Spurs. He is not expected to be cleared for full-contact work until mid-August, six weeks before the start of training camp.

** The Cleveland Cavaliers previously had been considered a front-runner for Oden before instead signing free-agent center Andrew Bynum, another player attempting a comeback from knee problems.

** The No. 1 overall selection in the 2007 NBA Draft, Oden has been out of the league since a series of knee injuries again sidetracked his career. He underwent his third microfracture surgery on Feb. 21, 2012.

** The Heat have been linked to Oden for more than a year, at one point standing as a front-runner along with the Spurs.

** Asked recently about Oden, Riley said, "There have been a number of players that started their career missing two or three years with injuries and then all of a sudden they never had another problem again."

** Because of the Heat's position against the luxury tax, an offer of their $3.2 million exception would wind costing more than triple that figure when factoring in the luxury tax. Just last week, the Heat trimmed their projected 2013-14 luxury tax bill from $33 million to less than half that figure by utilizing a one-time amnesty-release provision on veteran swingman Mike Miller.

** The Heat already have Chris Bosh, Chris Andersen and Udonis Haslem in their power rotation, with centers Joel Anthony and Jarvis Varnado also on their roster and LeBron James often cast at power forward.

* Since being drafted in 2007 out of Ohio State by the Trail Blazers, Oden has played in 82 career games, the equivalent of one full NBA season, with averages of 9.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocked shots in 22.1 minutes per game. By contrast, Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant, drafted No. 2 after Oden in 2007, has appeared in 461 career regular-season games.

** "He's young enough to maybe be able to get by this, and only time will tell," Riley said in his recent assessment of Oden. "But if he's healthy, obviously I think he would be able to help teams, yes."

Re: ~*~2013 NBA Offseason Thread - Amnesty period & contact signings 7/10~*~

Nearly a month since free agency Brandon Jennings is not only still a free agent but there are also no teams willing to engage talks with the Bucks to do a sign and trade for the kid.

here is probably the reason why

BP28VkECQAIsQgY.jpg

Jennings talked a lot of shit during the season about going to a bigger market and getting a big pay day but looks like neither will happen

With every day that passes, the strange Brandon Jennings case seems headed toward a resolution that neither party wants.

If Jennings bounces back to the Bucks on a one-year contract for the qualifying offer of $4.5 million, the point guard won't get the big money and the big market he thought was coming to him.

And the Bucks, who made their preference known with their unsuccessful pursuit of Jeff Teague while Jennings was hanging in limbo, would be stuck with a guy they'd rather not have around anymore.

Of course, the best solution would be a sign-and-trade deal. It's what Jennings' handlers and the Bucks want. Problem is, the Bucks can't find a suitable trading partner that has both the need for a point guard and something they'd want in return.

If a team makes a play for Jennings, problem solved. Let him go and move on. But more and more, it's looking like short-term coexistence will be required of Jennings and the Bucks.

As awkward as Jennings' one-year return would be, I'm thinking a potentially bad situation could actually become a good thing next season for player and organization with a lot of work and understanding on both sides.

In a contract year, Jennings would be highly motivated to become the player he thinks he is and get the money he thinks he's worth. With a new coach and without the friction caused by Monta Ellis' presence, it's possible that Jennings' attitude could be reshaped to make something of next season for the Bucks.

Once the season begins, player-management tensions typically abate under the competitive routine of every-other-day games. Losing could bring them to the surface, as happened in the second half last year when the Bucks' season and Jennings' game went south at the same time.

It would be incumbent on Larry Drew to convince Jennings that one more year in Milwaukee could be a positive development for the Bucks and the advancement of the player's career. It won't be easy because Drew coached Teague in Atlanta and it's reasonable to assume that the coach wanted his guy to run the show here.

Meanwhile, Jennings would have to understand that it is in his best interests to not only become a more selective shooter, but also to get the ball to Larry Sanders, John Henson and Ersan Ilyasova.

And the holdover teammates who did not enjoy playing with the free-shooting, ball-monopolizing point guard would have to come to some sort of a temporary agreement with Jennings, especially against the inference that Teague would have been a better teammate, not to mention a better player.

But it could be done if both sides swallow their pride and Jennings gets it into his head that a good year by the Bucks would get him where he wants to be.

It's important to understand that both sides created this mess by overplaying their hands.

Jennings refused to talk with the Bucks about an extension last October because he was certain another team would blow them out of the water in restricted free agency. After not entertaining a market-value contract from the Bucks of somewhere in the $8-million-a-year range, he is being virtually ignored by the market following his unsatisfactory performances in the second half of the season and the playoffs.

Jennings overestimated his worth as well as the need for point guards in the restricted market.

The Bucks erred first by saying they would match any offer for Jennings, thus limiting Jennings' options. Next, if they were that sold on Teague, they should have made a stronger offer that Atlanta could have refused, if also to avoid the situation they now have on their hands.

But what's done is done, both by Jennings and the Bucks. If forced to live together for one more season, they could make it work. More than that, they'll have to make it work.

Other rumors

I heard Greg Monroe could be moved. Since the Pistons signed Jsmoove who is a natural 4, Monroe could be moved for assets. Andre Drummond is untouchable. Monroe has been compared to a more athletic Chris Bosh but like Bosh he is not an itimidating big. If Jsmoove had a decent J then all three could play upfront together. The Pistons will have some decisions to make but it is a good problem to have.

When will the 76ers hire a coach?:lol:Seriously though they going to fuck around and what until October to hire a nobody:lol:. They making sure they will be tanking like a panzer unit during WW2. I ain't mad at them. If you plan on being terrible put your foot all the way in it:yes:.

Dirk leaves Dallas. The Lakers will make a strong push for Bron, Mello, and PaulG but like others said will probably get RudyG.

Lebron is on the books until 2016, so they may need to go after Rudy first...
