Warren Sapp hasn't seemed to bury the hatchet with Michael Strahan...

He says Simeon Rice was better... :hmm:

http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/giants/

Warren Sapp has no love for Michael Strahan.

Sapp, who has been critical of Strahan in the past, now says his former Tampa teammate Simeon Rice was twice as good as Strahan, one of the best players in Giants history.

"Nobody ever talks about Simeon," Sapp told the Tampa Tribune. "Simeon was a better rusher than Michael Strahan any day of the week and twice on Sunday."

Sapp, who will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August, told the Tribune that Strahan's career didn't take off until he moved from right defensive end to left end. Strahan, who wasn't voted into the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility, has 141.5 career sacks, fifth on the NFL's all-time list.

Bruce Kluckhohn/USA TODAY Sports
Simeon Rice spent the bulk of his career with the Bucs and Cards, racking up 122 sacks.
"[Rice] didn't rush the worst lineman," Sapp said. "You know the right tackle is the worst of the five. Strahan played right end his first four years. When they were putting the label on him as a bust, they put 'B-U-S ... OK, let's transition him on the other side and see if he can play in his fourth year.'"

Strahan notched 18 sacks in his first four seasons combined. He enjoyed a breakout season with 14 sacks in 1997, followed by 15 in 1998.

"They put him at right end and he couldn't do it, so they moved him to the weak guy," Sapp said. "One-on-one with the Jon Runyans [of the Eagles] for eight quarters every year.

"Sim won't ever have his name brought up [for the Hall of Fame], and that's a shame. He's one of the best pass-rushers I've ever encountered in my life."

Rice, who finished with 122 sacks in his career, averaged 13.5 sacks a year from 2001-05 while with the Bucs. When Strahan set the single-season record of 22.5 sacks in 2001, Sapp questioned how Strahan got the record because Brett Favre appeared to give the Giants' pass-rusher the record-setting sack.

"This is a man who wants something given to him and they gave it to him," Sapp said, according to the Tribune. "So have it."

Personally... I think Warren is.. OUT OF HIS FUCKIN MIND...

BUT... I'm a Giants fan... So... I'm admittedly bias...

Mike was the OVERALL better football player... Simeon was a LIABILITY AGAINST THE RUN... Whereas, Strahan played the run WAY BETTER than Rice...

MY question is...

Is this SOUR GRAPES... or does Sapp have a point????

Any thoughts???

Some sour grapes..., the rest is most players will ALWAYS biggup a teammate over an opponent, Sapp played in the trenches with Rice.

strahan played the run??? what season, when? great player, but I don't recall him being a run stopper...maybe I just hate the giants lol

Warren needs to slow down, Simeon rice was not that good, certainly not better than strahan.

if he wanted to bring down strahan, he should have mentioned Kevin Greene, who for some reason can't smell the HOF discussion, and or how about Charles Haley Mr 5 rings!!!

Warren better slow down before he turns into the same blow hard sportscaster he probably used to hate as a player since, most talked so much shit about him when he was playing

Agreed, Kevin Greene was a BEAST, VERY under-rated!!!

Strahan did play the run...

Whereas, Simeon... :smh:

I can't tell you... HOW MANY TIMES... Simeon would be 10 to 15 yds behind the line of scrimmage before he realized... it was run play... :smh:

In fact... the prevailing thought was... If you want to run against Tampa Bay... RUN AT SIMEON...

Thank you, Tampa had Sapp... Derrick Brooks and Hardy Nickerson to cover up for Simeon...

Always thought Simeon underappreciated pass rushers, especially when his career came to an end. 122 career, double digit sacks in 8 of 11 seasons, and there is some truth that the right end has the tougher matchup, but come on Sapp. Plenty of guys played left end and didn't rack up 141.5 sacks.

Guess he never got over his homie, Favre handing Strahan that sack record.

great point about moving him to rush the weak tackle though

great point

Not really???

Not when Sapp brings up John Runyan... who was the EAGLES' BIGGEST and BEST lineman...

Not when you consider the amount of football Strahan played when he came into the league... People forget... Mike was like 20 or 21 when he came into the league... and he didn't play a lot of organized football at the time...
... and not to mention...

Who was more one dimensional... Rice or Strahan???

It's NOT even close... :smh:

... AND... not to mention...

SIMEON RICE DID THE SAME THING??? :dunno:

Simeon didn't exclusively line up on ONE side of the field... :smh:

he did what most football teams would do...

He lined up against the guy that his coaches thought he could beat...

CUT IT OUT, Warren...

even if the consensus turned out to be that warren sapp's opinion is/was based on faulty conclusions, what would make that "hate"?

What makes it hate... is the thing that's driving these comments...

Sapp has some kind of animosity towards Strahan... and his comments are NOT based on facts...

To say that Strahan ONLY line up on the weak side... is BULLSHIT...

Because his guy... RICE... would do the same thing...

AND his guy... RICE... was famous for blowing contain on run plays...

C'mon man, lol. As a diehard Giants fan, Strah had that side on the line on lock. I've never seen a DE as dominant as he was in 2001 when he won the DPOY (save Reggie White).

Simeon was ok as a pass rush specialist. But Strahan had 200+ more tackles than him and 20 more sacks all from the strong side of the offensive line. Sapp trying too hard to stay relevant on this one.

 I remember teams would always run screen passes to Simeon's Rice side because of hie tendency to over pursue and run up the field. The Rams with Marshall Faulk use to kill the Bucs with that screen.

I agree, Kevin Greene was a fuckin beast. Never got his props.

Kevein Greene is product of Dom Capers/ Dick Lebeau mix with Cowher game plan.

Don't forget Fritz Shurmur.

Understood, but you STILL have to have the physical & mental attributes to excel the way he did on 3 different teams!

Dude finished with 160 sacks, that's HOF in my book.

Warren Sapp is a SAPP, and a fat asshole . He is always hating on the G-Men. His fat ass in over rated . F--k him

Sapp is right. Ive had the conversation with Giant fans and a few cats on here in the past. Stray is way overrated and a beneficiary of playing a huge NY market.

BULL... MUTHAFUCKIN... SHIT!!!!

Market has NOTHING to do with production...

Market has NOTHING to do with being an ALL AROUND player versus a PASS RUSH specialist...

Market has nothing to do with teams AT SIMEON... and them NOT running at Strahan....

Here'a question???

Who was Strahan's... Warren Sapp... or Derrick Brooks... or Hardy Nickerson... :dunno:

Overrated my ass...

Sapp is mad at Stray for having the sack record... BUT... here's the thing...

Is it Strahan's fault that BRETT FAVRE TOOK A DIVE???

NO!!! That was Brett's decision... not Mike... :smh:

Market has NOTHING to do with production...

Right, but it has a TON to do with exposure, recognition, and hype. Stray essentially had 2great season, and 2 more very good. He was not a consistently dominate great throughout his career. Simeon Rice was easily to more consistent and productive player between the two. Easily.

Simeon Rice was a good pass rusher... THAT'S IT...

HE was an absolute LIABILITY against the run...

HE had no CONCEPT of contain... and would get EATEN UP on the run... :smh:

But let's look at their numbers...

Simeon Rice... 122 sacks... 251 tackles... 25 Forced fumbles... 5 ints...

Michael Strahan... 141.5 sacks... 429 tackles... 14 forced fumbles... 4 ints...

... AND... Michael Strahan was the UNDENIABLE Leader... of the TEAM... NOT just the defense... Whereas... Simeon... was everything... BUT... the leader of the team...

HELL... He wasn't even the best player of the D-Line... let alone being the best player on defense... :smh:

Did you bother to even read the article you posted?

Sapps point is Rice was the better rusher. He was without a doubt. Rice not being a leader is both subjective and irrelevant. Also irrelevant is your point that Rice wasn't the teams best dlineman. None of that matters as the issue here is about the better pass rusher.

Strays cumulative sack total means nothing there. He spent probably the first 5seasons of his career as just a guy, and he spent the last 3 or 4 in the same fashion. Him playing longer and contributing a string of subpar years which added to his totals does not speak to him being the superior rusher. Rice was far more consistent and productive of a player.

I read the article... AND... What I got from it... IS PURE HATE...

Why does Warren even need to mention Strahan if he's 'BIGGING UP' his teammate???

Why does feel the need to mention that right tackle shit... When his man, Simeon, lined up against THE SAME GUYS THAT STRAHAN DID....

How many ALL PRO First team nods does Simeon Rice have?? 2...
How many does Strahan have??? 5...

Also... Rice was a ONE dimensional.... SPEED rusher... that if he didn't sack the Qb... he was NOT making plays downfield like that... :smh:

Whereas.... Strahan was speed AND Bull pass rusher... who was famous for making plays not ONLY from side line to side line... He made plays downfield as well...

Bottom line... It's NOT even close... Strahan was EASILY the better rusher and better all around football player...

SAPP IS HATING LIKE A MUTHAFUCKA... :smh:

Ummm, did you mean to finish with the words "pass rusher" as opposed to "player", how can one be a more consistent player when he has almost 200 less tackles than the man you're comparing him to?!?

And you didn't bother to look behind the numbers of Strahan's last 4 years, in 2004 & 2006, when Strahan only put up 4 & 3 sacks respectively, he was injured, he ONLY played HALF of each of those seasons, when he played full seasons in 2005 & 2007, his last season, he finished with 11.5 & 9 sacks respectively, how is that ANYWHERE near "subpar"?!?

And how is having Warren Sapp, an HOF'er who commanded double-teams which thereby changed an offensive line's duties, "irrelevant" to Simeon Rice's production???

Simeon Rice was a beast straight out of college, no doubt, and a better physical specimen, but Strahan was the more consistent player OVERALL!

Whether Sapps motives are hate or to inform is immaterial. I have no allegiance to either player so Im commenting on the merits and facts. Sapp clearly states that Rice was the better pass rusher. This is fact. Stray managed to play about 5years longer while compiling a slew of mediocre to good seasons. Those totals are skewing the reality here. There was no dominance and consistency there as it was Rice. Stary started out his first four years as a non factor, spiked for a few seasons and had two great years before tailing off into mediocrity. Simeon remained a double digit pass rushing force throughout his career.

Why are we excusing injuries? What are your excuses for the first four years where he was just a guy? Greatness doesn't need excuses. Why he was mediocre his last four years is immaterial. The fact is he stuck around cashing checks and compiling stats that skew his bottomline in a discussion with Rice. When you look at each players career objectively Rice is simply the better pass rusher. Period.

Strahan played 3 more years than Simeon... not 5... :hmm:

And... Simeon fizzled out his last 3 years...

If Simeon was SOOO MUCH better than Strahan.. He would have better numbers...:dunno:

BUT... he doesn't... :itsawrap:

BUT that's not the point...

The point is... Warren Sapp could have named ANY DE to compare Rice to... past or present...

WHY DOES HE CALL OUT STRAHAN'S NAME????

Of all people... WHY STRAHAN???

' Cause he's a HATER...

Actual Rice fizzled his last two not three.

But lets look at first ten year averages between the two, shall we:

Rice: 12 sacks, 38 tackles, 2.5 forced fumbles
Stray: 9.5 sacks, 44 tackles, 1.8 forced fumbles

In those first 10 years Rice put together double digit sack totals 8 times versus Strays 4.

Strays first three seasons he had 13sacks. Rice had 13 as a rookie. And keep in my mind his rookie year was with a absolutely shit Zona team where he faced double teams weekly.

Look man, I don't know or care Sapps motives. The fact is Rice was a better pass rusher.
