Get rid of cable - cordcutters 2013 strategy guide

so far the prices have been coming down... fast...but what they are trying to do is entice people to jump into 2 yr contracts cuz thats the only weapon they have to fight back. same with cell phone carriers. the game is changing. they have to evolve or die.

pros and cons of living in bigmamma basement.

Where the hell do u live where the prices on anything have been coming down fast

im in dc. competition will do that every time.

in 2009 i was paying about $100/mo for tv and internet

right now that same package is $70/mo cept they added more channels and its more than double the bandwidth than i was getting back then.

i think its like that in markets where fios or at least 1 other carrier has gained a strong following.

by the way.. if u have comcast and ur not tied into a long term contract and want to reduce ur cable bill but dont want to leave cable completely... just call in and tell them ur interested in cancelling cable service. they will forward u to the winback department or whatever its called and they will make u an offer thats like 50% of your current cable bill. they may ask for a 2 yr commitment but if u dont plan on leaving, take the deal. in 2013, i wouldnt sign a 2 yr deal on cable or cell phones tho...

Thats mostly what it is anyways. Deals that only last a year to bring u in or keep you
if you're considering canceling services. Ive worked for Time Warner for over six years now,
so I know all the little tricks and shit they do.
But hey, what the hell do I care? I get cable with all chns, and 30Mbs internet for 24 dollars a month.

what are the best channels/scripts for roku & playon

for just local networks, news & basic cable streams

i don't have a roku, but i'm trying to help someone build theirs

Good info :yes::yes:

I have all of this stuff but streaming performance isn't all that good (especially with PlayOn). May have to try stepping up the Internet speed. Also some of the scripts won't work if you don't have a newer version of Windows (my box is still Server 2003)

playon sucks if the box its installed on isnt up to par. i made that mistake myself.

CouchPotato
An automatic NZB and torrent downloader, just fill in what you want to see and CouchPotato will add it to your "want to watch"-list. Every day it will search through multiple NZBs & Torrents sites, looking for the best possible match.
Once a correct release is found, it will send it to your favorite download app.

With playon cable just isn't necessary to tell you the truth. Between that and an OTA digital antenna for the locals I can watch literally everything that I could on cable, movie channels included. The only hassle is not having a channel guide and having to use the pc to look up whats on.

Out of all this; what can play firstrowsports.eu?

Out of all this; what can play firstrowsports.eu?

That's the kicker. I can get Firstrowsports on everything but a set top box. Unless it has chrome and allows the extensions, you can't do it.

In the meantime..I have bunch of older laptops with Win7. Hook them up to the VGA port, close the lid and set it under the tv. They don't have blue ray but still play bootleg DVDs so fuck it. Get a keyboard with a built in pad.

There is your low budget media center. They sell small form factor computers from Zotac like the ZBox that tucks into a home theater setup nice. I use laptops because they come in handy and even laptops from 2008 can keep up with the stream sites.

I see pay per view fights on my phone thanks to firstrow.

For the record, firstrowsports has a plugin through playon and you can watch it on roku. I used it to watch games every week last year. They also have a plugin for vipbox.tv, which also includes ESPN, ESPNU and NFL Network. Also there's an espn channel to where you can watch live games on ESPN 360. I'm telling you, with playon cable is an after thought.

Does anyone here have a wd tv? I want to know if you have a playlist on youtube, if it will play the list consecutively or if you have to start each video one at a time. Also will it work with private lists or would I have to make my playlist public?

I currently have a roku and I use plex to get youtube. It can access my playlists, but once one item plays I have to select the next vid and hit play to get the next one to start.

Can anyone with a WD TV Live box answer this for me? I was thinking of buying one just for youtube, but I don't wan't to do it if I won't get any more functionality. Thanx. :)

imo, between the add-ons, repositories & the option to run playon, xbmc is one of the top choices

the interface is kool & i can advance & rewind at will without losing the stream

streams better than either of my consoles or my media box

the only drawback i see is needing another pc just to dedicate to this setup

i have an older one to do it, but it doesn't have a hdmi port

so i might check out one of those pi devices next
