Oil Rig Work Apparently Pays MAJOR Bread...

Props Bruh...Wish you the best.

Thanks fam. I just came from orientation a couple of hours ago. A lot of the stuff they talked to us about were already mentioned in this thread. The actual class starts in April so in the meantime I have to do some safety training, get my TWIC card and I'm good to go

I'm studying the "Introduction To Process Technology" book too so I have a headstart.

I just got a raise and a promotion at my company...we do decontamination at different oil refineries all over the globe to kill H2S or hydrogen sulfide...u ever see some 55 gallon green drums with the Zymeflow tag then that's us

Funny thing I was in Dumas TX last month at Valero and worked on a sunday...talked to this maintenance guy...dude says he is looking at 900hrs of overtime this year at $55/hr...thats 50k on top of what he makes just to turn wrenches...they are hiring operators up there too

so as I said before there's so many ways to get it...boilermakers make paper even contractors making $25-30/hr...crane operators and crane riggers...welders...blasters...iron workers...it all pays

I keep telling brothers. Just go for it, if you need the schooling, get it. There are shortages of people needed to fill these positions.

If anybody wants to work in the Natural Gas side of the industry, most companies hire big time in January. Check out companies like Baker Hughes & Halliburton. They really dont require experience.

how you liking the job so far? My lil bro just left OK for a two week training class. He will be responsible for the planning and servicing of oil wells. I think he gets a 14% raise since he is now in management

just got finished working with a cat that has no training whatsoever. Can't use a multimeter and doesn't know shit about hydraulics either. :smh::smh:

Industry is desperate yo.

Let me guess CAC

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

True, but I get a lot of Africans that don't have any training either.

Gotta watch these cats like toddlers. We use 690/480 on most of our systems and the motors are kicked up to 3200 Volts. We sometimes pressure to 5K PSI for operations and up to 10K PSi for tooling. Fucking around and being stupid will get you killed with the quickness.

All day long.

interesting shit...

I also heard once you are in the competition is heavy and there is a lot of in fighting... true?

and I mean FIGHTING not that typical corporate yelling match threat, have a lunch summit next week shit..

if true do you find yourself getting caught up in the bullshit?

I don't cause we are 3rd party contractors. Nobody is ever worried about ROV until we are broken.

I mean are there haters? Of course, but you just have to do your job and be on point. There are guys that brown nose and shit to get ahead, but most of them end up getting exposed.

Man I did a job at a BP refinery outside of Chicago a couple of months ago and I saw Lil Troy...dude does safety and told me he pulling in 12-15k a month...but doing the shutdowns he is gone from home for months at a time...but does no work he just stands around all day

the shutdown im at right now I saw some white girls thursday night picking up trash..."looking funny making money" is what they told me and they making $22/hr to just stand around for 12hrs

Ok Lord Sin ... before I go back to page one and start reading from the beginning, any IT related jobs on those rigs? How are the servers / computer systems maintained?

To sum it up. Yes.

Right now on our new rig, the satellite is fucked up and we have like 200K for everybody to use. The system is fucked up and they called the IT guys out to fix it. Caprock system.

Usually the rig ET does most of it, but the satellite guys come out and tweak the system when it fucks up, and it fucks up a lot.

Most of the cranes and drilling equipment is run with PLC's networked. If you can program one of those you will make at least 120-160K per year.

this thread is a blessing...

Still on the ground floor, I am doing so much research...that's work in itself.

I'm getting books on Hydraulics now.

I wanted to try to get something going by September...

just letting brothers know just from the basic research I've done this is a outstanding opportunity and MANY are not taking it seriously ...

don't sleep.

Working 3rd party then no. If you are on an oil rig and working the floor. Get your sets ready... It goes down. On the production side you rarely if ever have any physical altercations. But tons of corporate America rat racing.

I have orientation for my Process Technology Cert. class next week and the actual classes start in April. After I get my certificate then I'm going to get my Process Technology, AAS. Told ya'll I wasn't playing. When you want something you gotta go out and get it.

Glad you're in school. I really enjoyed getting my Process Tech degree. Felt real rewarding.

I've been trying to tell boys what kind of money is out here. Folks was laughing at me saying I didn't know what I spoke of.

learn PLC work and get in touch with me. we are doing multiple upgrades on some deepwater structures... company wide.

iow, we gon be busy doing this shit for YEARS.

Also realize you're going to be waking up mad early for work and also working nights.

LOL. dude, i've seen shit swimming out there that's as wide as your car. and you're worried about work hours?!?!

i don't think getting up early and/or working late or at night is a major concern for someone THAT WANTS TO WORK.

my biggest fear from working offshore was for my gf's pussy when i returned home. i had TOTAL PUSSY DESTRUCTION on my mind from day 1 til i got back home.

Dont blame me for asking and dont judge me.. But whats the easiest job that pays different in the oil field? Im talking bout the jobs where ninjas said they saw peeps watching movies and sitting on their asses for 12 hours.. Or walking around doing nada for 12 hours.. Please dont judge me just curious

Production operator/ mechanic. That's the closest you'll get to that wage hourly

Leukemia in offshore oil workers

Date: 28 July 2011 "

In 2008 a group of researchers from Norway published the results from a research study that showed an increased risk for cancers of the blood and bone marrow amongst offshore oil workers(1). The risk was clearest for two types of cancer: acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) and multiple myeloma (MM). The authors speculated that the cause of the increased numbers of these cancers was as a result of exposure to benzene, although the average benzene concentration in the air on offshore facilities is low (currently it is typically less than 0.1 ppm).

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) later affirmed the classification of benzene as a known human carcinogen, which causes AML, and where there is more limited evidence that it causes four other related cancers including MM, acute lymphocytic leukaemia, chronic lymphocytic leukaemia and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL)(2).

Since then there have been a number of other scientific publications that have looked at the risks from low-level benzene exposure. Some studies suggest that there are changes to gene expression amongst low benzene exposed workers(3). Other researchers have analysed all of the published studies of workers health and concluded that these data support the view that there may be important risks below current workplace exposure limits(4). However, all the investigators agree that the current evidence is not definitive and further research is needed.

Dr John Cherrie, IOM's Research Director, is a scientific advisor to a new research study on chemical exposures and cancer incidence in Norwegian offshore oil industry workers. This work will provide much better information about exposure to benzene and other chemicals found offshore and the possible links to leukaemia and related diseases. Initial results from this study should be published later this year.

whats a ppe? so ninjas really making over 100k and at the end of the day getting cancer:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Personal Protective Equipment

I'm not sure about working in the oil fields but I know working around fuel and not taking PPE seriously will introduce Benzene into your blood and after that :itsawrap: You don't know how many times I see older vets in my career field dying of Leukemia and all different types of cancer. Shit's crazy
