Misleading Song Titles - Just name it after the chorus dammit!

Song writers stop being cute with the titles and just call the song by the chorus or whatever word is repeated the most!! Its fucking ANNOYING trying to find a song by the words that you hear the most only to discover its titled after a word or phrase either mentioned ONCE or buried deep in the damn song. Or worse yet, a song with an esoteric title that's not even in the damn lyrics.

Songs where the title isn't mentioned in the lyrics:

ARTIST OR BAND --- POPULARLY KNOWN AS --- ACTUAL TITLE

Buffalo Springfield --- Stop, Hey, What's that sound --- For What Its Worth

Brothers Johnson --- Strawberry Letter 22 --- Strawberry Letter 23

Audio Slave --- Take It Out On Me --- Cochise

Faith No More --- You Want It All But You Can't Have It --- Epic

Marvin Gaye --- Makes Me Wanna Holler --- Inner City Blues

The Who --- Teenage Waste Land --- Baba O'Reilly

Songs where the title is a word or phrase either mentioned once, not as emphasized as another word or phrase or parenthesized:

ARTIST OR BAND --- POPULARLY KNOWN AS --- ACTUAL TITLE

Four Tops --- Sugar Pie Honey Bunch (this is added to the title but in parenthesis) --- Can't Help Myself

The Black Keys --- A Broken Heart Is Blind --- Little Black Submarine (the first words spoken in the song and never mentioned again)

Frank Sinatra --- Fly Me To The Moon (parenthesized in the title) --- In Other Words (even tho this phrase is sung many times fly me to the moon is emphasized much stronger and therefore more memorable)

Parliament Funkadelic --- Bop Gun --- Endangered Species

Nat King Cole --- Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire --- The Christmas Song

Rupert Holmes --- The Pina Colada Song --- Escape

Phil Collins --- Take A Look At Me Now --- Against All Odds

Jay-Z - Empire State of Mind

Actually like the title, but it appears no where in the song.

Biggie - Juicy

I get it's b/c they sampled "Juicy Fruit" but it has nothing to do w/ the actual song.

Jay-Z - Empire State of Mind

Dude the song is about ny/an ny mentality. Empire state building is one of the most recognizable buildings in nyc. The song title is very fitting.

To the op, the first song that comes to mind is outkast's rosa parks.

The Jay Z song could have been called New York.

This was an obvious Nas fixation naming it Empire State of Mind.

In some cases its for someone wont have the same title as a million other songs and in most cases its creative songwriting.

Also remember writers back in the day were way more advanced, some songs played out like well written poems. Therefore what is the main subject? that's what the song was called...its like back in Literature the professor has you read some shyt and ask what's the subject. Inner City Blues is the subject. Bills piling up, trigger happy policemen, etc...all that is what he saw in the inner city. It was the Inner City Blues (news) that made Marving Gaye want to holla. Therefore the main subject is Inner City Blues because again...that's what made him want to holla. I totally understand the op's point, just saying I FKN LOVE great song writing, so I have no beef, but i understand the frustration, lol.

Just to go along with the thread, i'll throw one out there for y'all george michael's "Careless Whispers" he says it in the song but as a youngster i thought the song was called "never gonna dance again":smh:

ALSO DON'T FORGET TODAY WE HAVE SHAZAM! I think Google has a program similar. So we can id most songs with vocals!

Didn't know that JB song was called I got you.

Come on bruh. That's why the first thing I said is I "Actually like the title."

i know, i just don't think that it qualifies for what the op is talking about.

Song titles are supposed to be clever and catch your attention right away. What sounds like a song you're more likely to click; a song that simply says 'new york' or a song that has a play on the names of an iconic building in new york AND one of hip-hop's most revered songs? I mean anyone who has a reasonable knowledge of nyc would've been able to at least insinuate that the song was gonna have something to do with nyc before listening, ijs.

The Jacksons --- Heartbreak Hotel --- This Place Hotel I literally passed up buying this single MULTIPLE TIMES because of the title change back in the day. Only YEARS later did I learn the truth: a hit recording by The Jacksons when it was released in 1980. The song's title was changed because of the 1956 Elvis Presley hit, "Heartbreak Hotel". Michael was unaware of the Presley song but had the title changed nonetheless. wiki

actually soulja boy says Crank That alot in the song but theres two possible explanations:

1. Because he puts stronger emphasis on Superman than crank that and the dance moves associated with the song SUPERMAN is remembered more.

OR

2. trying to listen to the song this dude literally MUMBLES every word except SUPERMAN...

daddadadaa DA

dadadadada DA

dadadadada DA

da SUPERMAN dadada DA an YOUUUUUU!!!

:angry::angry: ENUNCIATE MOTHERFUCKER!!!:angry::angry:

Where is it written that "song titles are supposed to be clever and catch your attention right away"?

New York is known as the Empire State. The Empire State building is in New York City but is named after the state of New York. The song "Empire State of Mind" has nothing to do with the Empire State building per se.

The words "Empire State of Mind" is never ever used in the lyrics of the song.
This is why it is misleading.

People call this Jay Z song "New York" all the fucking time. No one ever calls it by its correct name.

This is why it qualifies for this thread.

You are a fucking idiot. Just admit you are wrong and move along.

Rolling on the River is actually Proud Mary

Billy Joel's "In the Middle of the Night" is actually "River of Dreams"

Nazareth's "Son of a Bitch" is actually "Hair of the Dog" but is still correct, since the label is the one that forced the change.

David Bowie's "Major Tom" is "Space Oddity"

"Best that you can do" or "Moon and New York City" is simply "Arthur's Theme"

Those are the ones that immediately pop up.

the doobie brothers "long train runnin' is mistaken for "without love"

the choice is yours. people calling it "this or that"

I'm ok with rosa parks because the refrain has them talking about getting to the back of the bus.. That name is rather creative.
