Comcast SportsNet Chicago Bulls analyst Kendall Gill has been removed temporarily from his on-air duties after a physical altercation with Big Ten Network analyst Tim Doyle in the CSN newsroom Tuesday evening.

The incident followed the taping of "Sports Talk Live," a panel discussion on Comcast SportsNet Chicago that featured me, Mr. Doyle and Chicago Sun-Times reporter Herb Gould. Mr. Gill confronted Mr. Doyle in the newsroom over critical comments he had made on the air about Mr. Gill's analysis of the controversial final moments of Monday's Chicago Bulls-Denver Nuggets game. The referees ruled that what at first appeared to be a last-second basket by the Bulls would not be allowed, thus giving the win to the Nuggets.

The altercation happened right in front of me as Mr. Doyle and I were walking through the CSN newsroom on our way out of the building.

Mr. Gill approached Mr. Doyle and called him out for his comments, which escalated to a shoving match and ultimately Mr. Gill throwing a punch at Mr. Doyle. The two bumped up against a sign on the wall and a small amount of blood was drawn (though it was unclear exactly how) before the two were separated.

"We're looking further into the incident that took place in our newsroom earlier today," said CSN Chicago news director Kevin Cross in a statement late last night. "Until the investigation is complete, Kendall Gill will not be appearing on our air."

After Monday night's game, Mr. Gill said on the air that the call of basket interference against Bulls center Joakim Noah with 1.7 seconds left in overtime "was a very bad call on the officials' part," a point that Mr. Doyle, a frequent panelist on the show, refuted on air Tuesday evening. The two were also debating the topic before we went live in what appeared to be friendly banter.

Mr. Gill, a former University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign star and 15-year NBA veteran who had a short stint in boxing after his playing career, has been doing pregame and postgame live coverage of Bulls games on CSN Chicago. He has also been a contributor to the Big Ten Network. Mr. Doyle, who played for Northwestern from 2004 to 2007, has been a basketball analyst for the Big Ten Network since 2007.

There's probably more to come on this story in the coming days, but don't be surprised if Mr. Gill is missing from CSN broadcasts before and after Thursday's Bulls game versus Portland.

Reached by phone Wednesday morning, Gill said he was unable to talk about the incident that reportedly drew blood after a punch was thrown.

“We have to let everything play out,” he said.

Doyle could not be reached for comment and other employees at CSN have been told not to discuss the incident.

If this exchange was the reason for a fight, there must be something that has been brewing between the two...They seemed to have cordial relation on air, and I cannot
see why the would fight after this

Kendall shouldn't be fighting

but

I do like the idea that a commentator might have to face the consequences of some slick shit he said. If that was the norm, assholes like Skip Bayless would be a lot more careful and respectful with their words.

There's other shit. Hopefully the suspension will be short term. Unfortunately circumstances rarely matter when punches are thrown between Blacks and Whites.

I was just about to say that Kendal is into MMA and Boxing. Prolly a quick mop up on his behalf. It had to be something serious to get him riled up too...

I'm starting to see a trend here with the Nuggets in close games and the refs deciding the end result in their favor

Portland game
Memphis game
Chicago game

And last night 76ers game

The league really need to investigate this bullshit

When keeping it real goes wrong..... I hope this was about more than him being upset about what another analyst had to say about him. :smh:

Vegas

But on some real shit them mofos got away wit some shit

The fact these refs decided those games with less than .10 secs is telling

Only because the refs let em play with 10secs left on the clock

I remember watch the MickyD's All Amer game with tiny faced M Liberty in that game, thinking he was gonna be the next best thing with all that hype.

For those who don't read, ain't know or forgot like Doyle,

Hands

I like how they made the call in the other game last night where a worst in the cylander call was made
but the way they called it allowed them to review it on tape to GET the right call.
